MacBook Pro M1 Windows Alternatives?

I've done my own sussing but wanna know what the community recommends :D been issued an MBP for work but it's really not for me, so I'm looking for something I can suggest for them to swap it out for 😅

Preferences:

  • Ideally 16GB ram
  • Form factor: Generally don't wanna stick out like a sore thumb with the rest of the office's MBP's (so gaming laptops would stick out, no razer either as it's not… mute enough, needs to be a bit boring/beautiful)
  • similar price point if possible (the M1 8GB is 1.8k atm)

I'm leaning on the Surface laptop at the moment. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/microsoft-surface-laptop-…, but damn it's 600+ bucks different for similar/worse performance.
(and sad they don't have Ryzen 5000 series on them)

Open for suggestions :D

What's wrong with having a laptop that doesn't look like a MBP? Razer Blades honestly don't look too outlandish at all imo.

I'm personally waiting to see what the next gen Macbook Air and Dell XPS13 bring to the table

  • Before the M1 you used to be able to run Windows through bootcamp. That's what I do.

There's not much on the market that's comparable to the Macbook in the price to performance ratio.

    • The new Macbook also have the longest battery life and best thermal efficiency while under load. We'll have to wait until Intel or AMD come up with new CPU because currently nothing beat the M1

To be honest, the M1 8GB is very powerful, I haven't had any issues with multiple apps going including video editing etc…

M1 kicks as. I’d be taking it.

I think before you can really get something more to your liking, you probably need to be really honest with yourself (and us) about what you don't like about the M1. IMHO they are a really really good laptop for most basic workplace usage.

Also - Being the only one in the office not running apple silicon, let alone OSX, will forever be a pain in the arse for both you and your IT team, due to forever compatibility issues, and the perennial "It works on my machine".

    • On most corporate , windows environment generally pretty locked up, monitored and tightly managed.
