Synology DS920+ $799, DS1621+ $1299 + Delivery ($0 NSW C&C) + Surcharge @ Mwave

200

First deal for Black Friday season on OzB's favourite NAS. Nowhere near value compared to recent deals, but let this offer force the others into dropping the prices.

Starting to see talk on various NAS youtube channels wondering when the DS922+ will come out and what it will contain. At this stage unless you have very particular needs and want to do more than basic local storage + Plex, this is the one you want.

EDIT: DS1621+ is also reduced to $1299, which is rarely discounted. I don't see any postings for it on here.

1%/2% surcharge applies for select payment methods

Amazon have had it at $799 for a while, possibly matching mwave.

Not really a deal, historically its been $700-755 previously. I would wait for a more competitive price point.

Yeah pretty sure I saw it below 700 with one of the afterpay deals

    • Yeah, it was cheaper the other day.

Waiting for it to go below $700.

        At $700.00 I am a buyer.

Missed seeing the Scorptec deal at $739.00.

That's what I put in the listing, and you can expect plenty more better deals.

Just adding it to have it listed.

Any thoughts on HDDs for black Friday? After a couple of 8tb ironwolf's…..

    • I just shuck the WD ones for use in my Synology, works a treat

  • I'm waiting for the equivalent QNAP to get a decent discount.

    • I'm waiting for a new version of the TR-004 as I don't really need network connection. I've been waiting so long though I think I'll just pull trigger on a full NAS.

  • Can anyone recommend a good RAM upgrade for this? I thought I might use the 8gb from the Nitro laptop but seems synology are very particular about what RAM will work?

    • Generally the Crucial SO-DIMMs are fairly compatible. Check NAScompares channel on YT.

    • I've read they can be quite picky… based on others results I ordered the Crucial CT16G4SFD8266 16GB stick from Amazon earlier in the week for my DS920+, installed it yesterday and it seems to be going well… I did try to push my luck and tested my laptop's Crucial 32gb stick with no luck… was worth a try…

      • Thanks for the info, did you get the 2666mhz or 3200?

Looks like its $89 on Amazon, what did you pay, I could only find a ozB post from about 3 weeks ago for that RAM.

Good to know you could push past the RAM capacity to 20gb, I have seen similar reports online, did you do a RAM test to make sure all clear?

        • it was the 2666mhz one, I paid $88 last week, but price seems to fluctuate… I was hanging out for this specific model number because I saw others have had luck with it.

I didn't think to do a test, I just stuck it in and started using it, no issues over the weekend… but I ran a memory test this morning through the Synology assistant, it took a few hours, but it says memtest passed in the logs.

          • @kozi: awesome, thanks for the update, I'll have to hunt one down as well.

            • @yacman: Hey I was about to pull the trigger on the 20GB overall upgrade of RAM but read some reddit comments where a few people reported issues.

I was just wondering how it has all been going for you?

From what I have seen the main things you need to make sure of are:

              Single Rank

              SL19

              2666Mhz

              I have seen some positive reports on 8GB addition - ct8g4sfs6266 - $39

And the crucial recommended from their website 4GB stick - CT4G4SFS8266 - $28

I know you probably don’t need this information and did the memory test, which was OK but have you actually pushed the RAM use past 8GB?

  • Anyone come across a 220+ on sale?
