Good price, I remember buying b450 motor last year for ~$149.

  • I’m planning on getting a Ryzen 5600X, should I pick up this motherboard or get an X570 one?

    • +1

I have this. It's fantastic. No issues.
      5600x/3080 here.

I don't see the point in x570 unless you're overclocking but VRM thermals are great on this board.

    • +1

This board beats most X570 Board on the VRM side of things.
As a bonus it doesnt need those tini motherboard fans. Its a very heavy board.. sign of multi layer PCB.

I've got one.. its a tank and the go to option for anyone wanting a Full sized AMD AM4 ATX board.

how does this compare with asrock steel legend?

        https://www.centrecom.com.au/asrock-b550-steel-legend-am4-at…

        • +1

I was thinking the same thing, wasn't sure which one was better, the MSI or the Asrock, for the 5600X/5800X

          • +1

@evil squall: asrock got the 1220 dac audio, and 2x more USB 3.
tomahawk got extra Lan but no extra 2x usb, and the flash bios button.

MSI seems more popular no? what do you reckon?

I would get tomahawk under this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/630962

Looks like we'll be paying more this time.

@[Deactivated]: That link you shared was a great deal, too bad it's expired!

The MSI one seems insanely popular, makes me wonder if the ASRock is underappreciated? I don't know much about it too.

The extra 2x USB 3.0 does come in handy though.

Maybe have to wait a bit more until another 5600X/MSI TOMAHAWK combo deal….

              • +1

@evil squall: with asrock, please note this about the bios on 5000 series:
                https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11024946/redir

Not sure how you can flash the bios on asrock without the dedicated button like msi or with older 3000 cpu.

@[Deactivated]: Ugh, in a way, I can't be bothered to flash it so MSI is looking better at this point….

So far, I was able to gather https://www.msy.com.au/online/cpus/2662-amd-ryzen-5-5600x-up… and this deal with MSI which totals it up to $593 ($424 + $169) excluding delivery fees

Still a tad more expensive than the expired deal of $479.20 @ GG.tech365 eBay, definitely have to wait a bit more?

                  • +1

@evil squall: $424 for 5600x is quite cheap, pcpp didn't list msy, cheapest there is scroptec $439.

Asrock made atrocious intel 460/490/560/590 motherboards, and was called out by reviewers. Asrock had a temper tantrum and refused to hand out review samples to anyone critical of them - thus the brand has a lot of bad blood. Their AMD 550/570 motherboards were really good though.

@[Deactivated]: Tossing up between buying this motherboard now and getting a 5600X around Black Friday, or waiting for a combo deal like that to come back.

              • +1

@HaroldSexypants: all the prices listed currently hardly goes up, however around Black Friday there's big chance they come down. Best to wait IMO.

Mobo and CPU price are stable, miners only need 1 pair of them, but 8 pieces of RTX 3070!!!

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: Didn't want to take the risk, so I ordered this one. Might miss out on a bit of saving, but this is already a good deal so oh well. Thanks for the help.

                  • @HaroldSexypants: what about asrock steel legend? I'm still thinking between tomahawk and steel legend.

                    • @[Deactivated]: From vrm perspective, tomahawk is tier s and steel legend is tier a

                      • @shaoyangdl: yeah for overclocking purpose, for audiophile steel legend is better tho, and more usb.

not sure about quality on components between them, anyone knows?

                      • @shaoyangdl:

From vrm perspective, tomahawk is tier s and steel legend is tier a

Tomahawk is 10 phase, 60 amps whereas steel legend is 14 phase 50 amps. So the steel legend has the better vrm.

MSI vrms tend to have less phases than others, but they achieve temperature parity with absolutely massive heatsinks. It does mean they use more power and are less efficient though, but it should be rather negligible.

  • This is very tempting… If I buy this then I’ll be praying for techfast to do another 5600x and 3060ti for $1100~ to complete my build.

If they do a mobo cpu and gpu deal then I’ll be crying lol

thanks, this is very helpful. Looks like the Steel Legend is better than the MSI Tomahawk..

  • Is this board better than the Gigabyte B550 Elite V2? - https://www.centrecom.com.au/gigabyte-b550-aorus-elite-ax-v2…

  • This one or b550m aorus pro p which is $129 + delivery? Anyone knows if the gigabyte one supports headless mode?

  • +2

Bought it, can't wait to nab a Ryzen 5 5600x soon hopefully!

  • This deal should not be expired. Its active and expires 11pm 26/11.
