I've been the the one in Melbourne a fair few times.
It's always busy there.
It's 20 minutes from my house, so I can go for a surf after work and be home at a reasonable time.
The surf coast is an hour and a half away, so an extra 2 hours of driving. When I drive down there for work, it costs my boss $50 a hour + 72¢ a K. So that's an extra ~$200 for a beach trip.
The waves are consistent, I had a friend say he stood up on more waves in a hour than in the last 5 or so trips to the beach.
It's not a full ocean replacement but it's great for working on improving your skill levels.
Probably because it's about 100km to the nearest place you can do group learn to surf, and the waves are consistent in the pool - better for learners

I feel like it's a poorly conceived idea. You can get group surf lessons at a beach for $40/hour … why waste your time at this place at bigger cost?
