First time post - go easy! 😉

Ranked at 11 best board game overall on BoardGameGeek.com - I've been waiting for a good deal on this one!

Spirit Island is a complex and thematic cooperative game about defending your island home from colonizing Invaders. Players are different spirits of the land, each with its own unique elemental powers. Every turn, players simultaneously choose which of their power cards to play, paying energy to do so. Using combinations of power cards that match a spirit's elemental affinities can grant free bonus effects. Faster powers take effect immediately, before the Invaders spread and ravage, but other magics are slower, requiring forethought and planning to use effectively. In the Spirit phase, spirits gain energy, and choose how / whether to Grow: to reclaim used power cards, to seek for new power, or to spread presence into new areas of the island.

Ok. I'm at around 120 in the collection. How do I get another in the door without the other half making a comment?

Was just revealed as the #1 solo game for 2021 on BGG, so maybe just tell the other half they don't have to play it with you!

      • Being voted #1 solo game was what helped me convince myself to just buy it

Empty the box before taking home… say it's for the box artwork… "see it's empty, love!". (Drops pieces in corner of game room through pants legs ala Shawshank Redemption style)

It's clearly a good game, but keep in mind it's not for the feint of heart. Play only with keen gamers and expect to commit full brain power to win this one.

I've played this a dozen times and have only won once…

After I missed out on the ridiculous $50 EB Games sale earlier this year I got the iPad app to play test the game to see if I liked it and even with the tutorial telling me what to do I struggled to work out what was going on…that being said, after coming across it on Amazon for $88 I went ahead and purchased it and I’ll try harder to learn it properly (at a minimum actually read the rule book) and at worst it will look good on my shelf. I plan to play it solo or maybe with my partner.
