75" + TV with a Budget around 3k

First forum post, be gentle.

So I'm looking at upsizing from a 65" to a 75" in my dining and 85" in lounge. I recently moved into a bigger house and a 65" is way too small.
My problem is that I have around 3k to spend and I need to decide if I should stick with 75" or spend almost double to get 85" .. (no matter which brand I look at , the cost difference between 75 to 85 is significant.

As I'll only be buying a single TV right now I'm tossing up between going for a larger size with ok picture, or a smaller size with better picture and possibly even hdmi 2.1.

I've done quite a bit of research, and honestly it's just about every TV on JB under 4k. Here is what I was looking at;

Sony - KD75X80J
LG - 86UP8000PTB
LG - 75NANO75TPA
Samsung - QA75Q60AAWXXY
Samsung - UA85AU8000WXXY
Hisense - 75U8G

I do have a Ps4 and will end up with a Ps5 in around 2 years (by the time I get through my ps4 list of shame) so don't think hdmi 2.1 is that important right now.
I also came from having a Plasma many years ago which I loved.. moved to a Hisense LED in 2018 (which is ok).

Any suggestions here? No matter what I check online, ratings are just numbers and some TV's do perform better than others with picture, but then less so for frame rate..

My thinking is go for an 85" around $2.5k now.. and then in a few years time when I get a PS5 to get a hdmi 2.1 TV which would end up being 1/2 of what it costs now.

Thanks in advance!

Just bought Sony X90J from GG for 3200.
It’s the best I could get for the budget.
Rtings review says it’s better than some of the high end Samsung 2021 models.
I am using it for 2 weeks now n I am very happy with the purchase.

    • Oh that is awesome thanks! Looks like you got a good price ;)
I was not considering this model due to price… but you got it cheap !

      • It was for 3600 or something but the guy took 400$ off from the price.

  • X90j is a good option although their recent vrr firmware for 4k@120hz hasn't been very well received.

I actually work for a large retailer and was looking at a U8G myself, when I started digging into details I found that the Australian U8G is actually a different panel then the USA version with the same model number that gets all the good reviews. I confirmed this with our Hisense rep.

I'm now going back and forth between the Sony x90j and a TCL C825 series. Not a big TCL guy but it did look a little better to me in the store for gaming at least.

Def watch out on that Hisense though. A bit of googling will back up the whole diff model in Aus bit. It's not near as good a tv for us here unfortunately.

    • yeah that's what scares me about Hisense now… what I read is not related to what I'll get here in oz :( .
If the Sony doesn't have great 4k@120hz.. not much of a point in spending the extra for future ps5 support. Might as well get the older model at 1/2 the price

      • There is nothing wrong with 4k@120hz. It is the VRR that is the issue. But it doesnt matter for PS5 as it doesnt support VRR currently. Sony will fix it eventually. Just when…

        • ahh ok.. so by the time I get a PS5 it won't really be an issue :)

          • @HappyPooPants: Sony wont release VRR on PS5 until they are confident it is fixed on their flagship TVs. Or else it is just too embarrassing for them. It is safe to get an X90J if you spot a deal.

  • Oh man.. looks like Q70A was a steal just a few months ago

    • I'd avoid Samsung. There are people complaining that even their smart fridges is starting to display ads.

    • Not bad, waiting for 85" Sony deals, yeah Sony fanboi

      • funnily enough I too am waiting to see the 85" price once it goes on sale!
The more I look the more I see Sony blowing away similar competitors ..
        It is very tempting though.

I do see the LG 86" at 3k.. which again would be decent.

So many decisions.. which I'll keep thinking about and then miss all the sales.. and then wait until next year lol

        • LG reminds me of washing machines and what not so even when the Sony is off I'd enjoy it more lol

  • Ended up with the Sony x90j 75" for $2966: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/sony-x90j-75-bravia-xr-fu…

After viewing TV's for a while in-store Sony def had the competition beat Hisense/TCL/Samsung in the same range bracket.
The Samsung QLED Q60A was ok.. but def didn't look as nice and it seemed better to get the smaller size and better picture than the other way around.. let alone worse refresh rate and no hdmi 2.1 (when I get a ps5 in a few years).

Hope this has helped someone else.
