These have been $160-$180. Anything above $200 is not a great price..

    Great grinder though.

    • agreed, the smart grinder has been around for ages & I recall getting this sub $200. Normally inflation happens so slowly that you can't 'feel' it but when a 5yr old model electronic good sells for more than it did before it slaps you in the face.

      • Inflation has been a bitch, but this was sub $200 at the start of the year, I'd expect it to get back down, or close to it during this black Friday week..

    Wasn't this 175 a few months ago?

Great Grinder, but just matching price at David Jones, way too much compared to past deals.

  • +1

Can also confirm it's a great grinder. I've had it for years and it's still going strong with 3x coffees a day. But yes, as others have said, you can find it cheaper.

236 at binglee, but I would prefer buying from amazon for couple bux more for hassle free returns if something wrong.

Saw this earlier today. Wish it was under $200. Oh well, hopefully next month!

Doesn’t the grind come out clumpy?

    • Didn't for me

    • +1

      It's all relative.

Compared to better grinders, yes. But WDT is your friend.

      • And who or what is WDT?

        • +2

Weiss Distribution Technique - basically using thin needles/wires/guitar strings to break up clumps (deep WDT) and even out the top of your coffee bed (shallow WDT / puck raking).

@caprimulgus: I fee like that’s another level coffee wankery, standing there gently stirring my grinds with a set of pins.

            • @flyingforward: I didn't neg you, but sure…if you think it's wankery, then don't do it!

Instead, you could spend a lot more money on a much better and much more expensive grinder that produces less clumpy grinds, and you won't have to stand there feeling like a (profanity)! :)

For those that are happy to do it, they may find they can get better results without having to spend more money - each to their own. :)

            • @flyingforward: sounds like it when it's called "WDT".

              searching on Amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/Normcore-54mm-Needle-Distribution-…

              very expensive.

seen people make their own with paperclips.

would definitely make tamp more even. better coffee? who knows

            • @flyingforward: Haha sorry mate wasn’t directed at you, more the WDT technique. For the $216 price point yes, quite a decent grinder to start with, that does a wide grind size range.

              • +1

@flyingforward: All good bro, no offence taken! :)

The coffee hobby is full of wankery, and people taking themselves way too seriously, so it's all good! One man's WDT is another man's Wank-er-y! :)

(I do believe in the benefits of WDT though! Or let's just call it "stirring". :) Especially for cheaper grinders like these - the better your grinder, the less benefit you're likely to see from WDT. The Smart Grinder Pro, which is great for the price, is one that I think does benefit from WDT, due to the somewhat clumpy grinds it can put out.)

  • Just bought it from myer sale 249

  • +1

It is a good price providing everything is so expensive after lockdown, but not great price.

  • Picked mine up for $200 at the start of the year; have not looked back

  • Is this the same grinder in the BEP920 set?

  • +1

Waiting till it’s under $200 somewhere. I can be patient. I think.

  • any good deals for the double boiler?

  • +4

It's 216 from good guys commercial, bought it for my mate as it's the cheapest available now

  • Looks like they are price matching David Jones.

  • Wait it till sub 200 here

    • +2

OK, I am still waiting here and its getting boring.

  • Got it for $199 form TGG :D today

  • Was really hoping this would go sub 200 over black Friday sales but it was not to be. Bit the bullet and picked it up for $216 at the good guys commercial as I couldn't let my newly purchased dual boiler sit in the packaging any longer
