$50/ $100 off Set of 4 Michelin Tyres & Bonus $25/ $50 Shopcard @ Costco Australia

140

Costco is currently running a further promotion on the usual Michelin promotion, where they are offering shop cards with the purchase.

16 inch and below is $50 off with a $25 shop card = $75 off a set
17 inch and above is $100 off with a $50 shop card = $150 off a set

Shop cards are effectively just gift cards but you can most likely just ask the salesperson to take the shop card value off your tyre purchase as I have. (Please note I do work at Costco and formally was in the tyre department, so your mileage may vary but they should be happy to do that instead of giving you the card)

surprised they didn't Mmark the receipt. u could have stolen an extra set of tires

wasnt there a person at the garage door checking ur wheels and receipt as u left

    opportunity noted

  • Am I right in saying this essentially buy 3 get 1 free for SUV size tyre?

Do they offer fitting and balancing as well?

    • It's not really 'buy 3 get 1 free' unless your tyre size costs sub $75 or $150 each, Bridgestone is running buy 3 get 1 free on Ecopia Tyres at the moment though, but you won't get any shop card buying Bridgestone.

To answer your other question, yes they do, all prices in-store include fitting and balance, tyres bought loose (not fitted) will be less $19.99 per tyre.

  • OP can I ask, I often get told that some places don't mount tyres correctly. I go to a frequent tyre place and everyone says they don't mount the tyres correctly.

Honestly if they weren't mounted correctly I would have thought the tyres would just come off when i'm driving….

    Any info on this?

    • There are 2 ways to mount tyres "incorrectly", one would be not mounting the right way physically or directionally. Some tyres have an asymmetrical pattern that has one outside edge and one inside edge (can be mounted backwards by mistake) or even some are directional (tyre is designed to rotate in one direction only) so they can only be used on the left or right side of the vehicle. Tyres can also not seat properly on the wheel but it's unlikely to go unnoticed before you get the car back.

The other more common way for tyres to be mounted incorrectly would be technically or legally, which means changing tyres to sizes that are either too big or small for the car or too big or small for the rim legally. Usually done for cost reasons (some bigger or smaller tyres sizes are more common so cheaper) or people wanting to modify their cars.

Overall nothing really too much as a consumer you need to worry about if you go to a reputable shop and stick to your stock tyre size, hope this answers your questions

      • +1

They also don't put the valve offset marker in the right place, or spin the wheel up first before fitting a tyre to see if there is imbalance in the rim. This means you end up with a big lump of lead to get it balanced. As the tyre wears, it goes out of balance much quicker.

        • This. I find it so amazing that a lot of people dont even know that the dot they see on the tyre wall is a marker. That dots got to go where the valve sits

          • @tik tok: Yep. I actually got a Michellen rep to come down to a shop and refit my tyres. They had way too much lead. He did them properly. Two wheels ended up with no weights whatsoever. He gave them a good bollocking for making their tyres look shit.

  • I just spent $888 on a new set of PS4s Monday last week.
    Dang my poor timing.

    • Was that from Costco?

      • +1

Yes, OP was very kind to inform me I'm eligible for a small refund.

        Happy camper here.

    • whaaaat! I got PS4 for 800, costco has PS4S for only 80 more? thats crazy

  • OP, can you please clarify, can the gift card be used in Costco for groceries and similar? Or can it only be used on tyre and mechanical stuff?

I've been considering joining Costco. If the gift card can be used for groceries, that would push me over the edge.

    • Yes it can be used on anything purchased in the warehouse

      • Thanks!

        • If you know anyone with a membership, you should ask them to buy you a "Gift of Membership" card for $60 (same price as if you signed up) and they will receive a $20 shop card (which can be given to anyone) also until Christmas

          • @YourImag1nat1on: Thanks, but I'll be getting a company card at $55. I have a company, and it's for a company car.

I notice that other tyre suppliers say their fitting fee includes "environmental tyre disposal of old tyre". The Costco website doesn't mention anything about disposal, is there an extra charge?

  • OP thank you again for this.

I ended up getting $50 refunded rather than a GC.
    Didn't bother me either way.

Pick a charity and I'll donate half.
