Man these audio bugs get cheaper by the day

  • $19 on Amazon if you don’t have a Bunnings or officeworks nearby (or you’re lazy like me…)

I’m pretty annoyed though, just bought one of these a few weeks ago for $39 and thought that was a decent price.

  • can any of amazon devices show live stream of eufy?

    • Been meaning to try this, thanks for the reminder. :)

    • I have the echo show 8 and it can stream all 3 of my eufy outdoor cameras one at a time using the Eufy skill but it’s very laggy. I’m talking 15+seconds so by the time you receive footage the porch thief would have left or the person at the front door and you would get super frustrated and confused about what they are responding to due to the delay.

Much faster using the Eufy app on my iPhone/iPad which only has 2-3second delay.

YMMV depending on your home wifi set up.

      • does it stream when there is motion detected or do you do it manually?

also any way to stream eufy cams on TV?

Got it for $10 from the Amazon promo and it is a much better investment over a Google home mini.

    • How do you find that

      • +1

The google routine cannot be triggered by sensors such as security camera detection. But Amazon echo can. I don't ask many questions to the little box. So it does not bother me too much if it can not give me human like answers like Google assistant.
But it does make my home more smart when it can work smoothly with my cameras. E.g. in the morning, when it "sees" me, it will greet me with today's weather report and it can tell me the AusPost delivery guy quietly put something at the doorstep(some people don't ring the bell at all nowadays).

        • You mean the echo show as in sees you?

          • @asa79: My eufy cam. Alexa can know the eufy cam sees me in the routine config

    • What makes it better for you?

same here. i just find Alexa more responsive than using Google. but both of them are gathering our data anyways. I'd have the one that can at least be more useful for me. =)

Apple & FB collect all your behavior as well (they pretend they care for privacy; Less data, less advanced assistant).
American companies spy more than others.

I am in the Amazon eco system rather than the Google as my whole family has Echo Show 8s for video calls which is really cool. However Google is far superior at understanding instructions and being able to do something withm them - Alexa's primary answer is "mmm sorry, I don't know that one".

    • Apart from capturing our info which is obvious,
I use mainly google for automation and my wife as search engine. Garage door, nearly all lights , blind shutters , aircon , kettle , bathroom fans….etc are all in Google eco system. Tried in one stage to compare if same can be done with Alexa but products were very short in comparison to google supported ones.

    • I got the same deal. Mine is still in the box

  • What is the amazon promo? I saw someone got one for $4 they didn’t even know how 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • Amazon posted two of those to me free a few months ago. Perhaps, they wanted to get rid of them in anticipation of launching Gen4.
    .

  • so with the offer quite similar in price between google nest mini and echo dot 3 - which one would most people recommend? (never used one of them before) - interested to use it in the living area for playing music, setting timers etc. easy use stuff?

      For general use: Google

Go the Echo Dot if you want good bluetooth connectivity, make an old stereo bluetooth compatible, or are otherwise invested in the Amazon ecosystem

      • +1

I would say if you got Prime take Echo, I pay no Google services so Google Home/Nest Mini doesn't do much for me

        • I don't really use Google Home with any services. Actually, I have a shopping list setup with Google notes, but that costs nothing. I find Google's answers to general questions better than Alexa.

          • @jetblack: Yeah but your mobile already answers that. The unit at home is mainly for home automation, playing music connected to hifi, or have a subscription based service which you get value added services on top.

I personally liked google over Alexa initially when they were launched. But over the years, Alexa has evolved so much.
We stopped using our google homes and it’s all Alexa for us now.

      • Alexa assistant is older than Google

    • At this price, why not get both? (I did and use them in different rooms for different things).

  • Picked up 2 from Altona VIC, there were 2 left, not marked down on the shelf but scanned at $17.88, great stocking stuffers at that price..

How many of these is it appropriate to own in a 79sqm unit?

  • Does this control zigbee devices?

    • +1

Only if you have a zigbee hub attached, or if you have a Echo device with built in zigbee support on the same network

Live in the Googleverse, but at this price (even the cashier at Officeworks said "They've gone down in price again" ), I can buy an Echo Dot and use it as an extension chime for my Eufy Wireless 2K doorbell at a good price as I'm moving into a two storey house soon :)

  • One of these and a 3.5mm lead and you have a blue tooth receiver for an old stereo.

    • Plus wifi too lol

  • Here is a bit of an overview by Paul Hibbert: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aKkj7vE2FY

  • I already own 6 of these (2 still in box). Trying VERY HARD to resist buying some more….

  • Trying very hard not to use the Coles gift cards to get another Studio for $136…

    • $136 at officeworks? I can only see $169
