Which Is Best Sub $2000 (65''/75'') TV on The Offer

Hi guys,

I am pulling my hair and going crazy with all the available Black Friday options available. I am looking for an occasional viewing secondary TV (happy with my primary) for my home. When my kids are watching the TV, I have to fall back to my desktop / iPad. So, this black Friday I am thinking of grabbing one of the >=65'' inches TV. My usage is pretty much casual TV viewing / streaming / casting from phone etc. No gaming.

I am happy to bump up the budget by extra $300-400 if it is going to make a huge difference in terms of future proofing and quality of panel. I see that the Samsung Q60A opens up with slightly higher budget. Usually I stick with Sony, LG and Samsung brands for all my home Consumer electronics needs.

I am confused among these options so far.

Any suggestion is appreciated!

Cheers

LG C1 65" at $2800ish if you can stretch even further in budget.

Add the Hisense U9G and TCL C825 to your list both well under budget in 65", but superior picture quality to all of those on your list

    • Cheers mate

Sony and TCL both run Android, which bodes well for ongoing software support.

        • I have spare Chromecast with Google TV and I intend to use it with this new TV anyway

I've had a 85 series Sony 65" for several years and it's got a great picture. It's Android system is still crisp and updated (the Google TV recommendations are a pain). I've just recommended to my son to buy the Sony 65" X90J in the current sales. Bing Lee, Good Guys and JB HiFi all seem to have the same price.

    • Personally I do not mind those recommendations as I just ignore them. But I know exactly what you mean. I have a spare Chromecast with Google TV, I intend to use it with this TV.
      Thanks for the information.

From your list the X90J is the winner imo, especially if you get a good price for it this week on sale.

I was in a similar situation and stretched the budget to get the C1 OLED ($2800 or even less now) and the difference is definitely worth it. Good luck

    • Thanks for the suggestion. I am leaning more towards it as well.

Clear winner is X90J. Depending on your primary TV, you may even steal it for there, despite saying that you're happy with it.

  • is the 75 nano ok? am using 43 inch samsung sero atm and picture is fine for viewing but too small.

  • I'm currently in your exact same position. I'm leaning towards the x90j but looking at all options before I make the decision. Good deal on it at JBHIFI at the moment.

    • yeah, JB price is good. Will wait until Friday and then pull the trigger if one is available. Anyway I am not in super hurry if I don't get one. I can still do it on Boxing day Sales.

  • I picked up a 65" QN85 under $2200 delivered (got JB to price match AO when they had a crazy low price on). Really really good TV for that price point.
The AU8000 and Q60 did nothing for me but the TCL 825 was impressive for the price also.

    • Nice deal! Well done May be you can attach receipt here masking personal details and I will try to get that deal too

Here you go. If they want to look up the receipt number, it's here (don't mind the total = $0, I purchased it with a soundbar and they didn't have the TV in stock so split the receipt, the soundbar one has the total on it for a $500 soundbar lol)
        Good luck!

        • You are a legend!

        • Tried and failed. He mentioned can’t do that price. What is AO By the way? He didn’t know it either.

          • @akstatic: Appliances Online - they must have been matching/beating someone at the time as JB had it down to around $2500 on sale. AO had it that price for less than a week but I managed to snag one. The salesperson that matched it didn't think it was legit but luckily it was still live on the AO website.

            • @whitelie: aah, appliance online. Good stuff! cheers again

    Slightly different dilemma for me.
    C1 $2800
    TCL P615 $760

Both 65 inch. The TCL does the job and isn't that far behind this year's TVs. The C1 is still the same price as of 2 years ago. That's not normal for TVs so I'm thinking these Oleds are way overpriced due to bottlenecks and may com down a lot in a couple of years. Maybe I should watch the TCL while all this stuff pans out. And can probably sell it for 300 in a couple of years.

    • You can't be serious!
Base model TV versus one of the best TV's for Picture Quality ever manufactured.
The "comparable" TCL model to a C1 is the C825.

  • The C1 is 4x the price though. And I'm mainly just watching YouTube and Netflix. So yeah it's not an obvious choice. $760 at Goodguys commercial for the p615. And will lose a lot less resale value when I upgrade to a decent tv in a few years when supplied content has improved to make it worth it. Saying that after going around the shops just now I am a little tempted by the C727.

And to be honest when I'm watching a tv I'm barely ever paying attention to the picture quality more so to what's actually going on. Sound and smooth motion though I find important. Sound I can always fix by plugging in my amp.

i saw a refurbished sony oled on the sony shop earlier if anyone is interested.. 65 inch 2300…

  • Thanks guys for help. Ended up buying Samsung 75QA75QN85A

  • anyone with an inside knowledge if its worth waiting for Boxing day deal this year? don't urgently need a tv as existing old one still works but long overdue for an upgrade.

  • Just trying to understand the Bravias X80J vs X90J series. Comparing these two models on a 55', there is ~$600 differences.

What is the significance on the color technology? and the processor (X90J being a XR Cognitive Processor), including the XR 4K upscaling & XR Motion Clarity?

Is the $600 upgrade a noticable difference to the untrained eyes? Would the difference only be more obvious on 4K videos and won't make much difference in the lower grade resos (2K?)

    TIA!

X90J has Full Array Local Dimming (FALD) and the X80J is side-lit.

Even assuming all else being the same, Blacks (and therefore contrast) will be much better on the X90J as a result of the better backlighting technology.
I'm guessing the X90J will also be far brighter as the Backlight is projecting forward from the LED light source rather than reflecting off a diffuser screen.

This will make a difference on all content.

      • Thank you for explaining , especially in lay term. this has definitely made it easier on decision to expand that further $600 :)
