Jumping Ship from Felix - Alternative Data Plan Option

Just an FYI for those affected/interested, in recent light of Felix appearing to crack down on users who are using their SIM's in non-approved devices/4G Routers, in anticipation that it may well happen to me at some point (as I don't require calls & sms, and not interested in using a separate handset for hotspotting), I started looking at alternatives.

Turns out this Optus deal is still currently active, so I decided to jump on it, and was able to place an order today with the discount applied (chose the Extra Large - 100GB p/m plan). Works out $5 cheaper p/m vs. Felix (at least for the 12 month promo period), and won't be breaching Optus' fair use policy as this plan is designed for my intended use.

Bonus perks are Optus Sport (plus possibly Free Amazon Prime for 12 months & bonus 20GB data p/m for 12 months?), and although it's not "unlimited" data like Felix's plan, there's no bill shock & speed is shaped to 1.5Mbps after the monthly allocated data has exceeded, which suits me fine.

Also in my circumstance, I wasn't getting great Vodafone coverage/speeds at my primary residence, whereas Optus should work better.

Hopefully this is as useful to others as it was to me.

Didn't we just have a post about this hours ago?

Nope. I'll go back under my bridge

  • How much do you download a month? If youre doing 200 gb for example you’ll be fine I suspect.

Lucky to chew through 100GB p/m I reckon, so yeah.

        I think you’ll be fine

        • We'll see what happens. I've paused Felix for now. I should be getting a better experience for cheaper over the next 12 months anyway, and I'll keep an eye on how hard Felix crack down.

@ozwog05: Yeah, I use this out and about in Sydney and use over 500GB a month and I'm fine.

The only people that got banned were in areas with low cell bandwidth, e.g. regional areas.

I also noticed on Whirlpool that the person did not respond to requests for more information, thus we are only able to make an educated guess about what is going on.

FYI: Travel roughly 2 hours a day, using 4GB per hour; that's 8GB. Then I usually sit at the cafe to watch some netflix and then I use some at night to you know. On average I do around 20GB a day.

@ozwog05: I used 650GB last 30 days and now my download speed seems capped to about 10Mbps and upload to be like 5Mbps.

            • @sicaboy: Weird. I've found I've had crummy speeds at both my primary & secondary residence for maybe the past week. Then checked again this morning after putting my plan on pause yesterday afternoon and it's alot better :/

              • @ozwog05: From 3 days ago, my speed comes to only 10Mbps, before it was consistently ~20Mbps

@sicaboy: Do you know why it seems like they are banning people randomly? I wonder if they need to meet some KPI inside Felix Mobile. I think that must be the reason.

  • I got dinged and I wasn't even breaking the rules. What a joke.

200GB and banned. I'm also not in regional Australia, so I can definitely debunk that.
