Is OzBargain Big Enough for Local Deals? eg Filter or Page Dedicated to Areas

Just saw a pretty good deal a local cafe was offering for the Black Friday weekend and thought, it’s probably too specific to post on OzBargain, but thought wouldn’t it be handy if you could filter/search/have a page for more specific locations. Eg You click on ‘Gold Coast’ or ‘Wollongong’ or ‘Inner West Sydney’ and deals from shops or cafes that are only in that area would come up. I think I’d use this a lot to plan where to eat or know about other sales/bargains. Eg sometimes our local pool has free days, there’s a $1 taco night somewhere. Local businesses might even offer some OzBargain deals. I know you can mention location in title, but mostly this is just state. Not sure if there is a way to filter or search by location already… what do you all think?

I like this idea. Would be challenging to weed out sockpuppeting and garbage, but would be nice to see what deals are upcoming this weekend in my area. Whether events, markets, roaming food trucks, theatre, cafe deals etc.

You mean are local deals big enough for OZB? :D

    • Yes that too :) and if there are enough people in different regions to make it worthwhile

  • Some of this is addressed by:
    https://www.lasoo.com.au/
    or
    https://allthedeals.com.au/ (add suburb)

    • I kind of like the ozB user generated format, so I was thinking of as a feature of OzB

Local deals would be great and bring in more posts from people who think their deal isn't big enough for the main OzB page. There will probably be a lot of average deals but the voting system takes care of that, I could just pull up my city page and sort by best then sort by new. Adding the ability to tag the business on a map for local posts so I can use a map search would take it to the next level.

Can't you just create an alert? Yes, you can - I just did for Tasmania 😃, and another one for Hobart!

    • How did you do it? I looked under subscriptions and couldn’t see anything for location. Maybe I need to look harder…

      • do a search for the area - in the results you'll see an option for "create alert".

Thanks! That’s useful I just set one up for Gold Coast :)

    • Damn thanks was searching for a way to get email alerts for deals.

Even trying iitym but it wasn't working much simpler.

  • not big enough. plus there are certain stores that have stores in a few states only. so it would require a checkbox.

If there are stores not in your area you can hide them

    • So you wouldn’t want to be able to click on a ‘Perth’ link and see all the deals that are just for Perth? Find out if there are good meal deals, parking or freebies? Even long running deals for cheap lunches or car washes on certain days? You might otherwise miss those deals as they’d be less likely to be on the front page.

      • A national deal like woolworths would qualify , so it would be silly.

A store like Costco doesn't have stores in nt, so is that considered a local deal for WA?

        • I was thinking more that it would be for deals that are just local, so people could still browse/search nationwide or broader deals the usual ways.

So you have Categories and Tag. OzB could add an Area/Location box for another sub-directory then you could skim over deals in that location.
Same I found some great coupon deals just typing in Aliexpress I wouldn't have found using front page browsing.

Speaking of new features I accidentally pressed no instead of yes and now it seems I can't change my vote :(
I'm a bit annoyed at myself for this as I could see it being really useful if it is done well

    • Oh yep! I’ve done this before. I just changed the voting options, you should be able to change your vote now.
