Bonus $20 Shop Card with $60 Costco Gift Membership (in-Store Only) @ Costco Australia (Membership Required)

2380

Costco is currently offering a bonus $20 shop card with every gift of membership card until Christmas.

You can use the gift of membership cards to sign someone up or to RENEW YOUR OWN membership, effectively giving you $20 off your membership.
You will need to go inside the warehouse and head to the register first and buy it, then take it to the membership desk to redeem.

Please note for Costco business members who only pay $55/annually, the membership desk would give you a $5 shop card back since the gift of membership is $60 in value.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2021

      • Can I get a $50 referral bonus as everyone else on the thread like doing it for free ( or $20 peanut gift card ) for Costco benefit .

  • Can you use the gift card online?

Doesn't seem to be able to enter it during checkout, only accepting promo code and credit card.

    • No you cannot to my knowledge

      • Thanks for confirming, all good, will use in store.

Placed an online order earlier, thought I can use the gift card.

Update, just went to Adelaide store and they said that they aren’t doing it anymore since people were abusing it 🙄 the example was given: ie renewing own memberships and stacking 10 years 😂

I was just there aswell, what a joke. Firstly we dont get any liquor through costco, now this! This is the most I have felt betrayed in the last 10 mins 😥

  • They call it Costco Wholesale but we can’t get memberships wholesale 😂

  • Went to Auburn Costco today and told this meant to gift to new member, not renew existing membership! I said I have friends who bought this and renewed their memberships, the checkout girl said the policy just changed. :-(

  • Just cancel existing membership and rejoin if they say can’t renew?

    • Good point fatming. I renewed my membership last month and didn't get any bonuses.

  • because there appears to be issues with using it for renewal, cant i just pay $60 get the gift card + $20 shop credit wait for my costco card to expire and then apply for a new card??? would this work thanks

  • Officially, this is to gift it to someone else. If you asked the membership registration desk whether you can use it for renewing your membership, they will tell you no. However, they might mention people at the checkout would still process it even though it is not meant to be used that way (that's basically a hint of saying officially you are not suppose to, but if you kept quiet, the store will still let you do it).

Also, not every staff at the checkout counter is aware on how to do it (if it were to be used for renewal). It is essential a $60 off card.

If you asked or insisted on using it to renew your membership to the people at membership registration desk, they will tell you no. Instead, perhaps ask whether you can gift it to a relative or friend who is already a Costco member. Could that friend still use it to renew his/her Costco membership? One other thing, you need to have an active membership to purchase this.

  • Do they track who bought the membership gift card by activation code or something? If not, how can they tell you bought it for yourself? Sure, they can see you bought one, but you might have gifted it away, and then received another one from someone else.

And why can't it be used for renew? Surely there are people who won't be renewing, so gift memberships have kept some memberships going.

Also, on the back of the gift card clearly states that it can be used for renew. So, it seems the question is really about renewing your own membership. But in all fairness, there was a long period of lockdown when paying members can't go there shopping, so, can't they just be a little flexible on this matter?

  • Would have been better off rewarding loyal customers with a $20 bonus rather than this convoluted process.
