Suncorp Benefits Switching off 20/01/22 - Where to Next?

Just noticed on my Suncorp app that Suncorp Benefits is switching off and that we can't purchase new gift card after 20th of January 2022. Where are some other places we can buy discounted gift cards?

That's bad news, Suncorp was one of the easiest to access gift card programs (just required a free bank account).

Start by having a look here, you can also find that page in the pages menu on OzBargain. You might have products/be a customer of an alternate program already.

    • Thanks!

  • +2

Wow that was a very sudden announcement. What a shame, they had a good range and decent discount rates. They're even turning off access to your previous purchases in March!

    • +3

I'm off to opening a Macquarie transaction account ;)

      • What do you get?

        • The discounted e-gift card link others posted above shows the cards available via Macquarie Marketplace.

    • +1

They're shutting off access to the Suncorp platform in March. Any gift cards that expire after March 2022 can still be used, you just need to save a copy of the code before you lose access to the Suncorp platform.

    Shopback App

    Woolworths Group GC via NRMA

    • Macquarie has Woolworths GC as well (4% off WISH)

      • +1

NRMA is better if you can get it, as you can pay for gift cards by credit card (and earn points) vs Macquarie which is bank account only.

        • yeh that is the drawback, but macq does have higher discount on wish cards

also the length of the form to fill in on nrma is longer for each purchase, and it takes longer for the card to arrive

          • +10

@silenthillrocks: If you’re interested in WISH eGift Cards (which it seems like you are), you should keep an eye out for EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards, as those are actually sold by Woolworths Group as WISH eGift Cards (with a card number starting with 628000 555).

EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards used to have their own unique gift card numbers (628000 716) and were only redeemable at EG / Caltex Woolworths locations, but it seems like Woolworths Group changed EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards to be WISH eGift Cards after selling their fuel stations to EG Group in 2019. EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards are still sold to this day with unique card designs, but the gift card numbers now start with 628000 555.

            With that in mind:

            • HCF Thank You sells EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards at a 5% discount (well, actually, 4.05% discount after you account for the 1% Visa/Mastercard/AMEX transaction fee). When I purchased some of these eGift Cards a couple of months ago, I was sent WISH eGift Cards. Granted, access to that portal requires an eligible HCF policy…

            • Redeem Your Gift Card also sells EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards at a 5% discount. Anyone can access this platform, but they charge a $1 processing fee for each gift card, plus the only payment method is bank transfer. If you get a $500 EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Card, you’ll need to pay $476 for it, which is a 4.8% discount. When I purchased an EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Card earlier this year from them, I was sent an EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Card, but the gift card number started with 628000 555, so I have been able to redeem it at Woolworths and BIG W.

            • I have also received multiple EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards through GiftPay this year, and the gift card number always started with 628000 555.

There are other discount portals that sell EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards, so I suggest you keep an eye out for discounts for these eGift Cards going forward.

      • Dropped to 3% recently

  • That's quite disappointing but it seems like it's the actual gift card provider (run by EONX) that may have caused this. RACQ has had the same closure and are now processed directly on their website rather than the RACQ rewards portal, I believe they shared the same platform with eWallet Cash.

EonX develop fully-branded enterprise platforms for organisations looking to better connect, reward and securely transact with their members, customers and employees. Their clients include Optus, Suncorp, AAMI, GuildSuper and RACQ.

Might see Optus lose rewards soon too potentially.

Guess thats me gone as a customer… Macquarie Bank here i come!

    • I already opened my Macquarie account and purchased the first Amazon gift card. It was way easier than I anticipated it would be.

      • Only downside is you have to use your MB account unlike SC.

        • +1

Correct, but I created a PayID for it and just transferred the money (I needed to purchase the gift card) from my main bank.

        • Try shopback which lets you use card but only 2% discount vs 3%

  • +1

No more giftcard, my sole purpose keeping suncorp account. Keep or close account?

    • +8

      close

    • Giftcards will return as part of the new program.

      • any reference on this claim?

  • Wow this is sad. This was going to be my only reason to open a Suncorp account.

    • good guys commercial

      • +3

Suncorp never gave good guys commercial access, that's sunsuper.

  • +1

I just opened Suncorp Account like a week ago for this purpose,

Good thing I never activated online banking or card or anything,
now will call them to cancel it all

Its AAMI website says 20/1/2022 is when they are shutting down its Lucky Club benefits. They have a new Rewards Program coming in April 2022.

    • So they left us without any gift cards for 3 months. How dare they :(

      • +1

Or you could stock up before it ends…

        • +1
          • +3

@a1234my: You can still stock up.

If your gift cards expire after March 2022 you can still use them, you just need to save a copy of the code before the Suncorp platform shuts down.

March 2022 is the cut off date for accessing your gift cards in the platform not when you have to use up all the gift card credit.

“Suncorp Benefits as you know it is winding down to make way for a new rewards program coming in 2022! Eligible customers can continue shopping for discounted eGift cards until 20 January 2022. After that, you will only be able to access any eGift cards you have already purchased. You will not be able to purchase any new eGift cards. On the 27 March 2022* Access to the platform will be decommissioned.
    *Dates are subject to change.”

Like everything. the details of the message is a must.

The OP missed all these details that you posted. Which puts a different complexion on the situation.

Sure its a pain that there will be a delay between the two programs, BUT its NOT complete shutdown. Its a change.

  • Wish they weren't—Coles 3% discount was nice. At least NRMA is still around for Woolworths cards.

    • Any alternatives for Coles?

      • Check the discounted gift card page, as there are a few other discounted gift card portals that sell discounted Coles gift cards. However, it is definitely harder to find them than discounted Woolworths gift cards…

      • +4

Shopback (via super swap card) and Macquarie have coles

        • +1

Thanks for that—didn’t realise ShopBack did Coles cards too. 2% isn’t as much, but it’s better than a kick in the face.

  • +1

    thanks for the heads up

  • +1

Damn, didn't know about this till this post. I have a couple outstanding gift cards with credit balance to use before March now.

They were good for BCF 9%/SCA 8%

I have been using PerkBox lately for Coles e-gift cards, at 5%

    (SCA is 7% with PerkBox)

    • +2

The best part of Suncorp's gift cards is that for common e-merchants, the card value is not fixed but can be freely entered to the cent. This is great for Amazon and eBay orders as I can buy the exact amount of gift card just before checkout and not have to keep track of remaining amounts or have money stuck in Amazon as credits.

    Sad….

  • +2

This is indeed terrible news. Suncorp has to be one of the best free, no-frills gift cards platform out there….

Will have to search for an alternative now. very sad~

Just received an email from Suncorp Benefits. It seems that they will launch a new rewards program next April.

    https://www.suncorp.com.au/loyalty-program.html?urlvar_rmid=…

  • +1

Hope their new program still has the same options and it is mostly some cosmetic or backend change rather than them making it totally different somehow - I'd used them the most as an easy source for Amazon and eBay egift cards

    • I used their 5% off Jb Hifi so much

    • Rumor is levels based on points earned from having suncorp products
the higher the level… the bigger the discounts etc

  • Hi OzBargainer,

We’ve been busy behind the scenes working on an exciting new rewards program! Launching in 2022, this new platform will help us reward and improve the experience of eligible customers even more. This means Suncorp Benefits, as you know it, will be switched off to make way for this new program – you’ll find all the important details below.

We can’t wait to introduce you to our new rewards program. In the meantime, if you have any questions about your Suncorp Benefits eWallet or eGift cards, reach out to our friendly Support Desk on 1300 989 502 or email [email protected]

Nothing says it will be gift cards and I bet it won't.

    • I was thinking that too. Similar to what Youi did.

      Hopefully we are wrong.

  • +6

I am sick of companies changing things for the worse but trying to make it sound like they will be better. But we shall see hopefully I am wrong.

  • I have six hundred in here, any advice on
    A) is it possible to get the money back
    B) if not, can I buy gift cards and will those cards still be valid even though I can't access the benefits?

And yes I'll call suncorp this week :)

    • +4

The gift cards usually expire in 3 years from purchase date.

As long as you export the gift cards details before March, they will still work.

After March you won't be able to retrieve the gift card details from Suncorp rewards.

  • I'm confused about the EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards. Will they only work at Woolworths branded petrol stations? Are they the same as Starcash? Ampolcash? Can I use them at Foodary Ampol petrol stations?

    • EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards are redeemable at participating EG / Caltex Woolworths service stations across Australia. If a service station appears on the EG Group website, you should be able to use it there. I suspect the only service stations where you cannot redeem EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards are Sunbury (Victoria), Melton South (Victoria) and Mittagong (NSW).

EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards are different to AmpolCash or Caltex StarCash digital gift cards, and as such are not redeemable at any Ampol or Caltex service stations across Australia (including Ampol Foodary).

EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards are actually WISH eGift Cards, which is something I discussed earlier in this deal.

      • In the recent AMEX deal (spend $70 get $10 back) that I was lucky enough to have 10, I purchased Ampol cash GC's for $75 at 5% off. Do you think I could have purchased these EG / Caltex Woolworths eGift Cards? I think maybe not but just for future reference would like to know. Really appreciate your extensive knowledge on these issues and comprehensive replies :)

        • +1

EG / Caltex Woolworths Gift Cards only exist in a digital format nowadays, so EG / Caltex Woolworths do not sell any physical versions of the EG / Caltex Woolworths Gift Card.

EG / Caltex Woolworths service stations sell WISH Gift Cards, but of course EG / Caltex Woolworths service stations were not participating in the most recent AMEX deal.

You may have been able to purchase WISH Gift Cards from an Ampol Woolworths Metro and get the $10 AMEX cashback, as that is an Ampol service station with a Woolworths-Metro-branded convenience store (instead of an Ampol Foodary or Caltex Starmart convenience store). However, there are no Ampol Woolworths Metros in my region, so I could not see whether they sold WISH Gift Cards. I know that other types of Ampol or Caltex service stations (e.g. Ampol Foodary, Caltex Starmart) do not sell WISH Gift Cards.

I also tried using an AmpolCash physical gift card to pay for a WISH Gift Card at an EG / Caltex Woolworths service station a few weeks ago, but the POS system returned an error. I would have been quite surprised if it didn’t return an error.

          • +2

@WookieMonster: POS is a great way to describe the ampol sales terminal

            • +2

@silenthillrocks: I remember years ago when I worked in market research, every time we asked a Caltex manager to rate the ease of use of their POS they had to tell me what POS really stood for.

  • They told me they are shutting down and releasing a new and better product. They’re not shutting down for good.. that’s what they told me in an email anyway

    • I bet fewer people can access it after revamp.

  • -1

Giftcards are NOT going away however there will be a new and improved program launching
Apparently from what ive read it will be points based, you earn points based on your accounts and servcies with Suncop
You then earn a "level" which determines the discounts you get across a wide range of items including Gift Cards etc

    • +3

Bad news for those who only have a free (dormant) bank account with them

    • Thanks for the info. It sounds like the new tier-based replacement will be worse for the casual user though.
I will be looking for another solution (and probably closing my Suncorp)

  • +3

The suncorp rewards scheme has been very handy with great 3-5% discounts off of some very popular retailers, like jb-hifi which I've used oh so many times.

They even recently got Apple on-board and we managed to save a heap of money when buying the latest and greatest Apple products.

It's a shame that they are moving this on to a different scheme.

Hopefully it will have the same great rewards or better, but at this stage, I am not hopeful.

If there is a reduction in points, then I'll be closing down my credit card and rethinking every other suncorp product that I have.

  • Little bit annoying that most gift cards of specific amounts are already getting out of stock (Coles for example only $25 and $5 are available and $50, $100 and $200 are out of stock. Same with for example AMPOL all gc out of stock)

maybe they're phasing out the stock they have or people are stocking up…

    • I see that most denominations of Coles gift cards are currently back in stock, but I think you’ve realised that by now.

I’m not sure whether Ampol gift cards being out of stock is specifically an issue with Suncorp Benefits. I’ve been checking HCF Thank You (another discount gift card portal) on and off for the last couple of weeks and Ampol gift cards have been out of stock there too.

  • I keep getting "exceeding spend limit" already, so I think its finished….

    • probably you just exceeded the daily/monthly/yearly limits…i was able to buy some Coles GC now

  • Used to use the $20 gold class vouchers all the time!
Next best I can find is $25 through HCF… Any thoughts?

  • +4

It looks like access to Suncorp Benefits and AAMI Lucky Club has been extended for now.

Early this morning, the portal said it was going to close on 21 Jan (today), but the portal now says it will be closing “this year”. I cannot find a new closure date anywhere.

    • +1

I can confirm that I was able to buy and use some Coles gift cards today

      • +1

If you have Prezzee could get one at 10% off.

        • I haven't heard of Prezzee before but can't find how you can get 10% off on their website. Can you clarify?

          • +2

@spurf: @Yola is referring to this deal.

Btw, it’s actually a ~9.09% discount, because you’re getting $110 worth of Prezzee gift cards for $100 (and both gift cards can be exchanged for Coles gift cards).

  • Still accessible via Suncorp App now.

  • I was able to put a eGift Card in my cart from AAMI Lucky Club (although didn't purchase, as I don't actually need it), so it looks like AAMI Customers still have access to the Suncorp platform.

    • Please see my comment below - we all do (for now) - yay! But… we're also all going to be screwed soon enough. Goodbye the best gift card platform/savings tool by a longshot (besides OZB, of course).

  • +1

Looks like they've extended it until sometime later "this year". No date specified.

Can I still purchase new eGift cards?
Yes, access has been extended so eligible customers can continue to shop our discounted eGift cards and use eWallet funds for now.

    Source

    • Just checked and its still working!

Here's the latest info from Suncorp on official cut-off dates etc. for the programme (sucks it's changing at all, but I'm glad they've seen delays!):

      • 18 MAY 2022

        • Suncorp Benefits is closed for purchasing – you will not be able to use any funds in your eWallet from this date. Access only to view and use existing eGift cards.

      • 27 JUNE 2022

        • Quick! Last day to screenshot or print any existing eGift cards before Suncorp Benefits officially closes.

      • JULY 2022 (no date specified)

        • The exciting part (🤢🤢🤮🤮) – there will be new reward programs for eligible customers via Suncorp App, AAMI App or GIO App. Stay tuned for more details.

FYI - I sourced all of this from an official Suncorp update available at this URL [Benefits & Customer Discounts: Goodbye Suncorp Benefits. Hello new rewards] (https://www.suncorp.com.au/loyalty-program.html?intcmp=SUN:G…)

I really hope I'm wrong, but in my experience, when a company is deliberately vague/ignores the fact they've left all the important questions unanswered AND lays on the hyperbole/exclamation marks (i.e. seems desperate to sell how wonderful it is), it's not going to be pretty…

      • I agree with you.

Disagree. Suncorp still maintains a contract with EonX at the moment. There maybe some exclusive clause that prevents Suncorp from promoting products from other reward platforms. Once the contract is ended, Suncorp is free to speak.

      • +1

Any chance you have the URL for where we can access the existing eGift cards on a PC (rather than a phone)?

    • Got another update today:

PURCHASING OF EGIFT CARDS ENDS ON 18 MAY 2022*.

      Hi TimeOrMoney,

Suncorp Benefits is being replaced with a new rewards program. You can continue to use Suncorp Benefits to purchase eGift cards and use eWallet funds until 18 May 2022*. After this date, you will not be able to purchase eGift cards and previously purchased gift cards will have a ‘view only’ access until the new program starts. Any funds remaining on eGift cards or existing funds in your eWallet will not rollover to the new rewards program.

Does anybody know how to get to the rewards page to view/buy the egift cards from a PC/browser? A couple of months ago (or something like that, not sure when exactly) I found the page I used previously no longer has the link. And I can't find any new link for it.

I can use the Suncorp app fine to do the same and have been doing that instead, but sometimes I prefer the other way.
