Other than the traditional ham and turkey, what other dish or item do you have every year for your big Christmas meal? What do you look forward to indulging in food wise?
Hosting a big family Christmas this year and looking for inspiration from my Oz bargain community.

For carpaccio you need a good meat cutter machine, but yes, carpaccio is very nice too
Tartar with chips? Eeeeek NO! Plain toast and butter
Capers, onions, ketchup, yolk, olive oil, spices, harissa or tabasco and to finish off Cognac or Whiskey
I use smoked salmon for the tartar, and use Henkel dry to bring some softness, sadly I cannot find horse Raddish mousse, then I would make it more often
toast and butter ?! weird unless you are walking around
its great with fresh chips and a salad
i usually leave out the cognac or whiskey and might add mayonnaise if i am taking the tartar for a walk (blame belgians for that one, they call it an american and not because of bad taste:P )
i ended up growing horse radish with relative success, it needs its own pot or it can be a bit invasive - getting older i am a little less inclined to eating much (i just grate it)
butter chicken
Potato salad!
50/50 mayonnaise and sour cream for the dressing.
Dill pickle, boiled egg, parsley, spring onion. Our must haves are:
Mum's lasagne
Pavlova
Adelaide Hills cherries (we get them by the box from the farm)
Prawns (SA King)
If we have meat, it's usually an Inghams Turkey Roll (what can I say, they're awesome and we're over cooking whole birds)
Roast vegetablesThe other half sneaks in a carton of egg nog, I have some premium custard (vanilla and brandy on berries)
If I have the time, I make apple strudel.
This year, we have a gingerbread Christmas tree (bought it from the Tanunda Bakery, too busy to make it)
Am considering trying meringue trees thoughChocolate gold coins
Can you still get them? Or only chocolate crypto coins now?
Moreton Bay bugs is now the tradition for us, we only have immediate family so it’s affordable.
BBQ - Really nice steaks and Marinated Chicken.
days of roasts in hot weather stopped a long time ago for us.Roasted walnut. Cut a small slit, boil, then chuck them in the oven and serve them hot
Christmas pudding and Christmas cake with some rum butter and/or some brandy butter.
Prawns, snapper, ham, mangoes sushi and some fruitRed, red Wine. What ever my wife cook which will likely be nice because we have 2 young children and would love to make it special for them.
Pigs in blankets, which is bacon wrapped sausages. Pretty much a staple in the UK at Xmas.
It's not Xmas without pigs in blankets.
I don't make anything special for Christmas, as we get to eat the things we enjoy all year round.
The idea of a Christmas feast made sense in the distant past, when things like turkey were expensive luxuries that people couldn't afford, or weren't on sale any time except for Christmas.
Seafood salad, special fried rice from the local Chinese shop - while wearing paper hats and telling bad jokes from bon bons.
Username doesn’t check out?
Trifle (cant believe nobody has said this yet), got to be with home made custard so it's nice and thick.
Yep it was mentioned further up.
I need to put my glasses on.
Wipe the trifle off them first. Or maybe lick it off; wouldn't want to waste any.

Cinnamon donut banoffee trifle.
I think I just got a new tradition.
That sounds amazing!
It is amazing! Just make it the day before to ensure the donuts absorb the custardy caramelly goodness.
Guide us to a recipe? It's got me intrigued.
@madreece: It's based off of this but changed up.

I cheat and use caramel top n fill and store bought custard, but essentially it's donuts on the base and up the sides, then fill with layers of custard, caramel, banana slices, choc sauce. Repeat as desired, top with whipped cream.
I have made it individually in glasses using cut up donuts which is a much smarter option, you only need a tiny amount per person.
This is a super rich dish and really needs the (unsweetened) whipped cream to offset all the sweetness.
@anzacpaul: Thanks mate, that does sound like it would only need a small serve!
Trifle!
foxtel dish
Sliced fat person with radish and eggnog
A whole lamb spit roasted. Best lamb you will ever have.
