  • Interesting…they've removed the G19 from their website.

  • Another rumour I heard from a DSE staff member today was that there will be a computer sale on the 7th and then another gaming sale around the 10th.

    • They can come up with as many rumours as they like but the likelihood of anyone who's not a staff is pretty darn slim. Unless another slip up like they did with the G27.

      • Not sure why the staff didn't broden up the G27 on Sunday.

        • +1

I think they probably didn't know about it.

  • Not interested this time, dont wanna go late to job again.
But will definitely see the pics & videos posted on OzB & other media

    • yeah I'm on the same boat man, was late for 1.5 hours… can't do anymore stint like this

  • +1

Hey, if everybody whi is displeased with this BS sends a letter to Dick Smith Head Office, telling them if they saw staff take things, they will not be able to ignore it. I sent a letter and I did name names of what I saw in Brisbane. However, if 1000 letters arrive there with reports and people will get fired over this (Staff were explicitly NOT allowed to have first dips and reserve items) this will not happen anymore and other companies' employees will be warned for the future. Otherwise it is bound to happen again, just with some other company.

    • Not quite sure what you are writing here but good effort.

      • +2

Simple - I named the employees who told me they had bought stuff and who told me they had reserved stuff for themselves. I gave names, store, time of day, name of witnesses, and the items concerned. If everybody who saw stuff take and buy items for themselves, those staff will be fired. That will be a warning for DS employees and other companies' employees in case they consider doing what DS employees did.
For companies trying to shed staff this is a Godsent present. You can fire the employees immediately for breaching several rules and do not have to pay the compensation. Great opportunity for DS to streamline.
If I was a company CEO I would do those sales and then watch my staff - everybody who breaks the rules will go. Bait and trap them I say.

        • +3

Mate i understand these scalpers piss everyone off. Dick smith should not have wasted our time blah blah blah but to name names and put some poor persons job in jeopardy is just over the top. Unless you can stare me straight in the eyes and tell me you wouldn't have done the same then go for it. But truthfully if i was working there or first person at the counter i would have asked for all consoles and just purchased all.

        • I can tell you that I would not have done it. Let's just assume I am a lawyer and know my client is going to buy a company. Should I then buy shares of the acquisition target and make a fortune? No, as it is unethical and lawyers have to abide by professional standards. Besides, when it comes to shares it would be insider trading or dealing (using one's internal knowledge or position to enrich oneself unjustly). This is no different.
I wanted one(!) DSi console for my partner's kid who is in hospital and undergoing serious surgery (6 weeks in hospital at least) and that's what I would have bought. Even today staff in Queen Street in Brisbane refuses to sell me games they have in stock (I know as I had another company pricematch and call them! Also, their system says so and when I asked three(!) employees had a little pow-wow and then said no).
Everybody who did this should lose their job and I will do anything in my power to make that happen. I cannot do that shit and nobody shit. Ethics and morals are there for a reason.

        • +1

I can tell you that I would not have done it

          BULL

Let's just assume I am a lawyer and know my client

YOU ARE NOT A LAWYER AND THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE SITUATIONS.

wanted one(!) DSi console for my partner's kid who is in hospital and undergoing serious surgery (6 weeks in hospital at least)

If you really wanted one so badly you would just buy one at full price. Dsi's sell at $130 least. Not a huge amount of money to spend on someone you truly care about.

I AM NOT JUSTIFYING what the staff did but it's not enough for someone to lose their job. Maybe one of the staff has a child in hospital going major surgeries and thought they'll be able to make money by scalping these on ebay. Ever think about this.

For F…k's sake these were just games. Not bottles of water being sold in a natural disaster.

        • +3

Actually I am and no I am not going to buy it at full price when I was first in line, waited two hours before work, checked stock and the four or five consoles they had Sunday 1 minute before closing disappeared overnight and were gone when I entered the store.

You know - if you screw up and know it be preapred for the consequences. That's all I will say.
And yes, it is exactly the situation I described. Any of the DS staff would be calling for jail time if I did the share trick, for example when Facebook will list later this year and everybody knows that the shares will jump immediately after listing., and they miss out on the shares they wanted despite being first in line.

If they lose their job, this will be a warning for all other DS employees in the future and possibly other companies' employees never to screw customers again or face losing your job! If there are not severe consequences, this will never stop and it damn well needs to! Enough is enough!!!

P.S.: I am not even mentioning the breach of internal procedures and rules which also warrant firing on the spot without compensation.

And mate, only because you do not stick by ethic and moral principles does not mean nobody does. Some people are still honest and do not screw over others.

        • waited two hours before work

Firstly that was plain stupid. Stores opened at 9am. You were stupid to be there at 7am. That was your choice.

You know - if you screw up and know it be preapred for the consequences.

Staff didn't screw up. They just did what any person would have done. And may i remind you not everyone did it. There weren't enough consoles to go around. A store will 11 staff might have had only 9 consoles so they probably got 1 each. Who knows.

Dick screwed up. Go scream at them for not running a better sale.

And yes, it is exactly the situation I described. Any of the DS staff would be calling for jail time if I did the share trick.

It's not and no ones gives a shit about dicks shares seeing there are rumours they are closing down anyway. You can help yourself to as many shares as you want. Best of luck.

If there are not severe consequences, this will never stop and it damn well needs to! Enough is enough!!!

Seriously you need to calm down. Sit back and think. It was a game sale. You missed out and life moves on. I missed out as well. You don't see me drumming my chest. I wanted one for my daughter. She still will make it without a dsi u know.

        • +3

          You so miss the points.

          1. No, waiting there was not stupid. My store opened at 8:30am. Also, if you want to be first in line you cannot come 1 before opening time. Check 'Black Friday' on Google to see how it's done and then call of these people stupid.

          2. I am not talking about Dick's shares but profitable shares. It is the principle that matters but obviously you do understand that. But as regards Dick's shares: through this mess, DS will be sold for less money which means Woolworths gets less money and so will the Woolworths stockholders. Well done DS to make the Mom and Pop shareholders lose well-deserved money.

          3. No, not everybody would have done what staff did - you even said so not all staff did. And that is exactly the standard by which I measure. Anything below that deserves reprimand and punishment. I am sure that your employer will reprimand, punish, fine, or even fire you if you contravene explicit rules given out right before to precisely avoid this mess.
The problem with people like that DS staff (and mayeb you?) is that you feel entitled to things because work conditions are so bad and they deserve a "bonus'. You know what - tough! Get a different job, study some more etc. If you do not like your job, leave but do not screw customers and innocent people.

You know, this entitlement needs to stop. I think I will offer the DS legal department some of my free time to prepare the termination notices and try some case without fee should any of those employees think they have a chance to sue against the termination.

Sorry, but you won't change my opinion. Seen it at HN with HP Touchpads, now DS, and if nothing is done it will happen again in the next sale.

        • OK kids settle down.

Gallifrey is right as there were breaches by staff. If they are stupid enough to get caught, that's their own fault. But just remember Gallifrey, these are just retail staff tryin' to make a $1 outta 15 cents.

Rack is also right, these are just games and not the end of the world.

I really wanted a cool headset but can't justify a big spend right now. I would be upset if staff "hid" stock from sale or if ppl bought large quantities to on-sell but I'll get over it.

Cwongtech - that was just cold and unnecessary

Sash213 thanks for that. That preety much sums it up. Truce. Life is short live it.

        • Sash, it is not even the limited stock or the hiding but the lying and treating customers as if they are scum and completely stupid. That is what is so upsetting when it is effectively us that keeps them in their job.
And it is not the games that upset me so much - it is the attitude of staff who smile at you, ie to your face, talk to other staff how stupid customers are, and think they can get away with it. And what for - just to make a quick buck on Ebay. It is their feeling of entitlement that staff needs to get preferential treatment - why is that so? Could any restaurant survive this way? That is why I am angry and will do anything I can to see these people punished.

And I do object to "they are just retail staff…." - that entitles them to enrich themselves?! Really?!!
Going by those standards insider trading should be allowed for lawyers who relatively earn less than a plumber or retail staff if one keeps the hours worked in mind. I shall make that suggestion to the government and QLD's Attorney-General.

        • Just let me clarify here;

          1. Most stores didnt have consoles (a few per state), so staff didnt really 'clean up'

          2. It was originally a staff sale, so they were in there full right to buy anything on sale.

          3. No one will get fired. (leaking the list was the only violation)

        • +1

          @wbeer

You are wrong - I know at least two staff who have been fired because of purchasing and reserving things for themselves - as has been said, DS wants to make itself look attractive for a prospective buyer and shedding staff to reduce costs is a pretty quick and attractive way.

Also, it was confirmed as an official sale for the public. If it was to be a staff sale they should not have confirmed it as a public sale - simple as that.

And no, they were not in their full right to purchase as is evidenced by the clear instructions from Head Office! Also confirmed by several staff! They were in breach - simple as that! I can confirm that I know of at least one store in the Brisbane area where staff had to return the items they bought so that they could be sold to customers.

Finally, my local stores had at least four of five of each piece of hardware as evidenced by stock levels on their systems and confirmed by staff shortly before closing on Sunday which were gone before opening again on Monday. So, again - enormous betrayal by DS employees.

        • +1

          Gallifrey-

maybe someone told you all this…
but I ASSURE you nothing that you have said is true. I know on good authority.

4 or 5 of each console… is a straight out lie.

seems if you are petty enough to get people fired, you would be petty enough to lie to this forum.

        • wbeer

Go through this forum. Judging from some posts some stores even had more of them.
The DS computer systems says low stock if 1 or 2 and in stock with 3 or more consoles. Except for the PSP (of which they only tsocked plenty of a different model number) all the other ones were there in the numbers I said and I am only talking about the stores I personally checked and went to - NOT all stores. And yes, I have it on good authority too as I saw them and could count them in the backroom even on the day of the sale! So really, I am not lying but are you? Are you working for DS by chance? Maybe a store manager? With the games I completely agree - my stores did not have everything.

          Cwongtech

What was that about revenge? Yes, of course, let people break rules and be rewarded so they will do it again. They whole point of having employees fired for their wrongdoing is that is should prevent the wrongdoing in the future. That is why you get fined for speeding or put in jail for causing grievous bodily harm!!!

In fact my kid fully agrees with those people being punished so he is reading this, too.
I think you best leave it to me Mr Tech how I spend my time and how much money I want to make. Besides, taking some hols is compulsory at my law firm (labour laws and prevention of burn out but I guess you do not have that, hey?) so why not now when my kid is sick?!

Your comment about revenge is funny seeing you want to take your revenge for not being able to silence me or change my mind. Cheapass does not really hit it either - I am sure you would have difficulty hiring me for a whole day given the rate my firm charges. But I guess the insult level is the only level you can argue at - poor Australia.

Have a great evening Mr Tech.

P.S.: Learned how to load websites yet? :-))

          And herewith I sign out.

Interesting read. Makes the last 30 minutes of work go fast :D

All I can say is life goes on. Shit happens. Etc etc. Live and learn. :D

  • So you can't comment on the original sale anymore….i'll place it here. Was at the shops yesterday (3rd) and thought I'll check out DS to see how empty/messy the gaming section is. To my suprise I ended up walking away with Tony Hawk's Ride (XBOX) and a few $1, $2 PC games! May not sound great, but these are exactly what I was after (already gave up on consoles).

The sales rep was actually carrying Ride to the counter for himself, but was happy to sell it to me as he was only buying it cause it was so cheap.

So it may be worth having another snoop of your local DS

  • I'm a little confused about the level of hate at the DSE employees, there must be a lot of them and I can't imagine they all got cheap consoles, a small % had the opportunity to be greedy though it seems.

That said when it comes to breaking rules to grab a bargain this is the community you come to to learn!
How many people have multiple email and facebook accounts and even addresses so they can get double up on offers against the T@Cs. Some of the bargain hunting 'taught' here, ie beating the system, is very close to shoplifting.

I think if I was a DSE employee I would have found it VERY hard to pass up a $100 xbox and would have hidden one somewhere till a mate could come around for sure.

Any rage should be directed at the DSE mgmt if you feel misled.

btw, there is still stock of sale items to be found. Some stores still show accessories and MW3 xboxes in stock. I've seen $5 games and Wii accessories still on the shelf.

    • +1

No, nothing wrong telling your mate to get up early, come to the store, be first in line and buy one for you. Why is that so hard to understand? If staff had done that - all would be fine as everybody would have had a fair chance then.
But I bet you would not ask your mate to do that as you would not trust your mate to hand over the $100 Xbox afterwards. ;-)

      • Sounds like your experience was on the shonkier end of the scale.

        • +1

Not just mine. My girl-friend's experience is the same and so are many other people's experience.
From a PR point of view this is akin to a gigantic oil spill on the Great Barrier Reef just because the captain wanted to take a shortcut!
As other people has said, if DS has to close it is not soon enough.

          The top rule for retail:

Do not screw over your customers. Be fair and honest and they reward you with repeat custom. If you are not they will destroy you!

  • I just got a call. Turns out the PS3 Driver won't be sent to me and neither will the tower. They did however send the almost worthless Wii game and charge me the shipping fee for it.

Holy cow, a sale in which the result was worse than getting absolutely nothing!!

  • Are anybody going to bother for tomorrows supposed sale?

More store is very empty after the first sale I can't imagine finding anything tomorrow.

  • For you guys arguing I drove around I put the time in and there wasn't one thing I missed out on . I got a Xbox for $100 I got a FIFA 12 for $199 I got a Dsi for $20 I got a mw3 console for $299 and the turtle beach headphones. What upsets me is staff telling me only one per customer yet others buying 30

    • Good work. I was there in the morning, I just didn't have the focus and killer instinct that was required.

    • +2

Yeah, right. And where did that miracle happen so late in the sale?

    • +1

shane23, feel free to post a pic of your haul, because I call bullshit until you do, but if it's true, good for you, but until then!

    • Yeah, pic please. I can't believe this claim.

  • Those who missed out on the limited edition MW3 Xbox consoles, ring and head to Chady or Southland SC. I grabbed only two (one for myself and my bro). Be quick!

  • If you are in highpoint dse, they have two avatar collector's edition for $5 each for 360! They still have the $30 tag on it, but it will scan at $5.

  • It happened at menai bankstown penrith Miranda menai marketplace eastgardens and Bondi junction

  • Did anyone else order a few of the XBL points cards from the site and just receive a cancellation email?

    Sigh.

    • Yes i just received that email too, the discount they offered me was $20 per card, ridiculous.

      • Yeah I didn't bother with asking for a discount and asked for a full refund.

        • +1

I talked the guy into giving me 2 cards for the 25 i paid which wasn't so bad, still cut I'm not getting 5 tho..

        • That's actually pretty good! Maybe I should've done that instead. Oh well.

        • Hmmm, I had the same email but I replied saying they could just send me 5x the new XBL point cards instead - and I just got a dispatch notice! We'll see what comes…

    • Maybe you should have bought them in store from the nice employees who had to return their purchases in the Brisbane store. :-))

  • +1

Guys for the second wave DSE game clearance. I called DS North Ryde this afternoon to check whether there would be one tomorrow. He told me no but there would be another wave around 11th. He said he was not sure if more stocks coming in but…… Anyway, thats what I have been told… could be wrong.

    • Tiwce I got told the 11th today, too.Apparently there will even be a brochure for the sale.

    • That gives the staff a week to hoard the stocks. ;)

  • Guys, I want to get an Xbox, what's so great about the MW3 edition , is it worth $299 , I'm not a MW3 fan and likely will continue most of my gaming on PC. The local still has this listed, so should I go get it or is there a better deal for me?

  • +1

The actual clearance game has just begun, DSE Chadstone (Large) store is closing down. Check store details on DSE website.

    • Link please.

      • go to dse.com.au then click on store finder on the top grey bar. then enter 'Chadstone' in suburb and choose victoria as state. then click on find nearest store. Now you get to stores near entered suburb and store name gets displayed as 'Chadstone (Large) (Closing)'. Now closing should mean that this store is closing soon…

    • I was just wondering how do you know there will be a closing down sale. I mean what if they move their stuff to other stores.

      • +1

I never claimed there will be a closing down sale! But there is no reason as to why it shouldn't be there unless their employees are planning to find jobs at eBay.

        • ok no probs. Just asking.

  • +1

Next in clearance line is Galleria DSE Store in CBD which is also closing down…

    • Which state?
      And where's the list x)

      • Victoria….next in clearance line is Frankston Power Centre (Large) DSE store

      • Balgowlah DSE store is closing down in NSW :)

      • any in canberra guys? Wouldn't even mind the display model PS3 ;)

        • +1

In ACT, Fyshwick DSE store is closing down ;)

        • I was just about to edit mine when you replied

  • +1

So if the stores are closing, does that mean everything in the closing stores will be cheap?

    • Ask Gerry, is he planning to buy all of DSE stock for online sales at HN?

  • +6

I am waiting outside the DSE store. Why am I the only one here?

    • +1

      anything?

      • +1

must be buying everything in the store

    • +1

So the staff didn't even bother turning up? ;-)

      • +12

Gallifrey has had them all fired

        • baha ha ha

    • There is no sale today bro…

      • +3

So what is all these misleading info about Round 2 sale Thursday 5th - Confirm?

        • Was there anything?

        • +1

          Same old bare shelves.

        • +3

I was told by the store manager this Thursday is the 2nd round. Only half of the items on the list was listed today

Cannot believe how store managers can lie to their customers. Well I guess this is a typical DSE employee.

  • +3

No sale at George st, sydney store :(

  • +3

Called up my local DSE, they confirmed that there's nothing today. Although, there will be another round of sale next week.

  • No sale today. My local DSE said sometime next week.

  • +6

    got dicked again

    • +1

You got dicked the first time, why did you go for another round?

      • +8

        he loved it

        • +7

          i love getting dicked

    • nice!

  • +1

    everyone got dicked hahaha

    • +1

      Again.

  • +1

well i got a wii zig-zag storage tower today, was marked as "Advertised $59.95" scanned at $5

  • Went into Southland DSE at lunchtime…

the guy obviously lied – he said all the DSis and PSPs went within 2 minutes of the sale… hello i was there that day… there were none available! Did anyone here get a DSi or PSP from Southland DSE?

obviously easier to tell such a story…

i asked about RDR – it had a sticker for $50… and he said it wasn't $5 as marked on the sheet.

GREAT SALE DSE… im pretty sure i can get RDR for much less than that even at EB…

    • You gotta get them to scan it. It's the only way to be sure.
Although, yes, some of the things on the list didn't end up actually being on sale.

  • So do the closing down stores have big sales?

    • I was at the chadstone one today. The discounts are pretty pathetic. Like 10% off? Games-wise, not much left. And the guy at the store said they won't have new stock coming in. ):

  • +9
    • Hmm some good stuff there.

    • $10 for the driving wheel?

    • +1

how can they advertise when there is no stock left :p more from the warehouse??

    • what is the headphone brand for $5?

    • Any online version with clearer pictures now? I can't find one
