I'm curious to know if it was the fact that multiple people saw it the same time I did and clicked the link, or bots saw the PS5 was live and immediately tried to check out, taking the site down. Possibly both?

I don't think retails stores are allow to sell more than the RRP price recommended by the company. They might add a game and an extra controller and changed the prices but the console price shouldn't be more than what the company set it.

Not really last month Amazon drop lasted around 10 mins.
in April 2021 it lasted 30 to 40 min before it sold out.
Nah the amazon one only lasted a minute, it just looks like it stays up on the website but you can't checkout after that first minute.
Madness that it's still near impossible to get your hands on a PS5 over a year since launch.

Gamesmen are filth. They lob in accessories no-one wants (or in this case, no-one can actually see in the deal) to charge "overs" on their console offers. It's pretty crappy from a large gaming retailer, I'd expect these antics from scalping scum.
The history of Gamesmen is why they don't release them at retail .
They know they are worth double on the open market and make the play .It's not a big retailer, they have literally just one single store in Australia. These are typical mom and pop store dressed up as a large retailer. Do not expect anywhere near the same service and support as you would from the likes of Target, Big W, JB and Amazon.
I would rather support the larger companies than these mom and pop shops. Larger stores look after me, I'll look after them.

Sony does sell them on their online store (whenever they aren't sold out) and unfortunately bundles in a controller at full retail price usually as well. Pretty poor if you ask me as no one actually sells the controllers at RRP.

I actually have a PS5 - no need to be petty. I am just commenting on the antics being used by Gamesmen to fleece extra dollars out of customers on high margin accessories. They're barely better than scalpers. There are many examples, here is another.

business is unfair but unfortunately there are a large portion of stupid or desparate people in the community that will buy these. Scalpers are just a business unfair or not to the customer the price of anything is a rip off. Its the same with things like graphics cards and PC parts legit business are over charging those things but people will gladly buy it. These are the times we live in the sooner you accept that the more you can move on from it.

The actual store in Penshurst is great. Never had a bad experience in 30yrs. Definitely much better service than what I've experienced in JB, Target, EB etc..
I don't go there for every game I buy, but can't fault them whenever I have.@Redbull1609: Yeah whatever. They treat you okay after they scalp you enough lol. Try return something then tell me about your experience. Small business like this will never be at the same level as a big store.

Whilst we are assuming things about each other, sounds like you might be one of the owners/associates of gamesmen. Almost no one here would even know that they have been operating for 30 years. 30 long years of charging even higher than EBGames but with none of the reach of EB lol.
@fuzor: Nah, no association. Have lived not far from the shop since '89 or so. You even used to be able to try games in store before buying, obviously a bit hard these days, but great back when you could. Also for the place to still be standing after what happened in '95. Different opinions I guess. That's the beauty of this site

I have got one with the link in the email a few minutes ago. It takes about 1 mins to redirect from cloudflare to their website. However, I can still get it. After I put it in the cart, I see a message that the PS5 is sold out and the one in my cart can still checkout. After the checkout, the link is no longer working.
By now there must be a special place in hell for scalpers.

I just rang up 5 or 6 JB hi-fis until I spoke to a bloke who told me he had in coming stock and if I put down $50 they would call me and a week later they called me and I had a PS5
