ZENNI OPTICAL: Quality issues all of a sudden?

I've been ordering from zenni since 2008 or 9.. dozens of pairs.. no issues, even with (eventual) disregard/mistreatment of the frames.

In Nov 2021 I purchased two pairs, both frames formed stress fractures around the lenses and fell apart within weeks.

Both were full rim plastic, different styles. Standard lenses.

Zenni are replacing the frames.

I don't think the lenses caused the issue (shape/edging).

Their quality may be on the decline, or maybe it was just a faulty batch of plastic.

Please post if you've had a similar experience with zenni frames.

I will update if the new frames do the same..

  • Not with Zenni but I have had it happen with 2 pairs of glasses from different brands over the years.

A one off could just be a faulty material or a manufacturing flaw. If it happens again I'd say there's a QC issue.

  • Got a pair of sunnies a bit over a year ago from them - been fine

  • Bought a pair of half rim multifocals from Zenni. Have been wearing them for over a month now. No issues whatsoever.

Holy crap, I just got the new replacement frames, and they fell apart at the corner, the exact place as the previous pair, the very first time I removed them from my noggin.

The second replacement is coming, which is both frames and lenses.. so that may help rule out the lens somehow being the issue.

I have emailed Zenni, and will let you know the outcome/updates

The forth pair fell apart in the same way, within hours. They had new lenses.

It's definitely the plastic.. it's inferior… perhaps they've tried to cut costs, or perhaps just a dodgy batch.

It's happened to two different frame styles, but they are similar and perhaps made with the same materials.

I've asked Zenni if this is happening to others, and why it's happening. Just waiting on a reply.

  • new photo showing fracture, and multiple fractures starting to form in frames.. within hours of use.

polymer missing the thing that makes it flexible/strong without being brittle.. perhaps.

    UPDATE/RESOLUTION:

The 5th and 6th pair they sent out seem to be OK.. so it must have just been a faulty batch.

I asked many times why this had occurred, if others had the same issue..
Their response was so scripted and useless, that I considered running a turing test.. or better yet, the Voight-Kampf on them.

  • How's the lead-time recently??

And thanks OP for updating the progress.

    • The 5th pair fractured… They are sending a different style (even though they still sell the one I bought.. hmm ok)

Order placed 2 weeks ago.. currently halfway between hong kong and brisbane it seems.

      • fifth pair WOW
what's the average delivery time between the first four?

Difficult to say now, because the replacements didn't show in my account as orders.. I think the first replacement was issued November.22nd.

I'd guess the average has been about 2.5 weeks +- .5

          • @jinkerjinx: they sent free replacement frames; and you just used/re-installed the same lenses yourself?

        • +1

That last pair only just arrived.. Took 6 weeks..

          I guess it's due to Floods/Covid.

Maybe customs.. Had other packages held up there recently.

Mine usually last years. Though I always order the wrong size so they fit wrong. I remember when I was a kid the only way to get glasses was to go to like OPSM and pay them hundreds of dollars, and hundreds more if you wanted special coatings and such. I'd rather risk ordering glasses that don't fit from China.

With Zenni I always order like six cheap pairs at once, four regular with different styles and two tinted like sunglasses.

Replacement frames cracked/fractured in the same manner.
At least they lasted longer :(

I have an older set of these that don't have the same fracturing.
    It's definitely a quality issue.
