  • Getting cheaper and cheaper, soon we should see $200 40" FULL HD LCD TV.

  • yeah gotta love that Middle East weblink!! hmmmmmm

  • Very tempting. I'm in the market for a good quality 50"+ TV at the moment and am looking for:

    • Low to no blurring. Plasma is nice here.
    • 100Hz+ picture sampling
    • Big screen

The only real negative I can see about this Panasonic plasma is the power consumption. 320w. A comparable LCD is as little as half that. If one were to leave the TV running for 8 hours a day, every day for a year it would eat $144 extra per annum in electricity compared to a 160w LCD. I don't intend to use it like that, but it does make one think.

    Hold onto your savings…

Plasma technology uses much more Electricity than its LCD or LED counterparts…

With the rising cost of Electricity, you'll need that saved $$$ to pay your Electricity bill.

      not really,

cheaper LCDs (even LED-LCDs) will use more power than a good quality plasma.
There did use to be a difference, but not much anymore.

considering you would only look at a plasma 50" and up. The power increase is mostly due to increased size.

50" is more than 50% bigger in screen size than a 40".

    • You do know that NeoPDP is far more efficient than LCDs. You have 54" TVs now consuming less than 250W. LEDs consume around 150W, so not much of a difference considering how much LED TVs cost compared to Plasmas.

i bought this TV at retravision when it was on sale for $668 a couple of weeks ago. Look people…regardless of the power consumption, it isn't as big of a saving if you think about it. HECK, if you're going to be so stingy about the power, go back to the gas lamp and wood fire sticks. as for that calculation. who runs a TV for 8 hours a day every day for a year? only gym places like Zest or next generation would (in which they can afford it). tops hours an average person would watch TV i reckon is 4 hours. and thats not even every day. say it was it'll be $72 bucks extra which would be 20cents a day (being a leap year). Think about the savings you're making with actually buying it at this price.

    Gosh…… (N3rD R@g3)

    • is it a good tv is the question!!!??!

  • the way i understand it is if youre a heavy tv user (tv on all day, kids etc, dad gets home watches tv) then ur best getting a lcd/led. If your a 'casual' tv user (once every few days, few movies here and there) then plasma is recommended.

I bought one of these a few months back for my (darkened) HT room. I can highly recommend it for picture quality, and the power thing is a complete non-issue.

However, if you're putting it in a brightly lit/windowed room then the reflections off the glossy screen would drive you nuts; plus, plasma isn't the way to go in bright areas anyway. Also, as soon as any kid even so much as looks at it, there are grubby fingerprints that stand out against that shiny screen.

    • this links to non full-hd version of the tv. u30 is better, has full hd.

    Panasonic Plasmas are nice!

  • If i didn't live in Cairns i might think about it. : )

      But Cairns is awesome!

  • Do any of the current Panasonic Plasma range utilisise the Kuro technology they bought off Pioneer?

    • I was under the impression that Pioneer only invented the fancy crystal caper so that they could get closer to Pana blacks anyway! I wouldn't be surprised if Pana simply seized the golden opportunity to acquire the only real competitor's primary tech so they could sit on it & keep the rest of the competition at bay! :o

I'm not being facetious either BTW…

  • This TV is great.

Just be aware that it is very reflective if there is a lot of sunlight, it nearly becomes a mirror with enough light.

If the room is always a little dark it looks amazing.

@LoopyLou. Cairns is too hot for plasma's. If i lived somewhere cool i might be interested.
