Even if you don't collect them, your friends and family will get cool Pokemon stamps when you send them letters. My local Balgowlah Heights Post office had 6 sets left but they are freely available online.

Oh good, looks like Set 1 just out of stock in store

  • +1

You can buy 1 set instore as well if they have stock and you don't want to pay shipping or buy $30+

  • +1

So would this actually grow in value?

    • -6

No . For people who want to lose $$$$$$ .
You can place any order you want at AP will provide all no limit .
OP has no clue how much this lack value .

    • +4

You still get 20 x $1.10 Stamps = $22, so just paying an extra for $3.50 for the Pokemon Branding (assuming people still use stamps).

      • agree, its $3.5 too much.

Better off getting a sticker book.

    • +1

Can only speculate on future value but all Pokemon branded stuff does very well, this sold listing sold 4 for $37.5+$2 shipping for Pokemon Set 1

I'm going to say No (whether that's actually the reality or not) simply cos I'm sick of hoarders, resellers, "investors", Brodens, whatever you want to call them screwing up so many things. Whether it's the housing market, Lego, plants, or stamps, I mean really …

If you want to flip shit for a quick buck would be nice if they stuck to something intangible like Bitcoin instead of things others might just want to buy and collect and enjoy.

      /End unrealistic rant

    • Unlikely. Stamp collecting is almost dead. I go to estate auctions and you can buy entire folders of stamps for about $15 each. At stamp shows it's rare to see someone under the age of 60.

What will people do with Pokemon stamps? They won't use them. Instead they'll be put away on a shelf by collectors, who all think they'll make money on them in the future. The original Pokemon cards became insanely valuable as they were damaged and destroyed during play.

    Bought 50 thx

Just went and asked my small local PO - they had none and directed me to the larger metro one.

    • You can buy them with free shipping via the link over $30

  • +1

OP - I can put any collectible I want on ebay for any price I want. It doesn't mean that's the market value.

Be extremely careful when lending out investment advice to anyone, and anyone looking to invest in collectibles always DYOR.

    • +2

It's the market value if they sold 4 at that price $37.5+$2 shipping. If you simply use the stamps the most you can lose is $3.5.

      • Nice huge statically significant sample you have .
I sold 50 blocks with a face value of $1 for $15 each over 10 yrs . I'd gladly clear at $2 which is well below the market value you would assume lol.
        BTW 400 to go :)

      • +2

The four you're talking about is this from your link above.
        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2021-Pokemon-Post-Office-Pack-wi…

3 were sold at $37.95 + $2 on 9th July, 15th July and 19th Sep. 1 was accepted at a lower price that's not public knowledge.

That means that this ad has been up for at least 6 months but has only sold 3 copies at the price over that time. You've planted a seed to this forum that people will easily flip these at profit because of a random ebay ad. I'd be extremely hesitant to provide any investment advice on that basis.

  • Set 1 OOS online as well

  • Ohhh out of stock. Wanted some for the pool room

    • Set 2 still in stock changed the link

      • Thanks saw those but few pokemon i don't know so less invested haha

Honestly so happy Pokémon isn’t dying and it’s everywhere . I grew up with this franchise and played the first one when I was 6 or 7. Looking forward to my old age and I’m playing Pokémon Yellow Remastered v3 - Pikachu’s Wet Dreams while I shite on my Pokémon themed adult diapers in my retirement village.

    • +2

Haha same, I played blue and red when I was like 12. And now I still see Pokémon as strong as ever, so happy as it’s such a good game when I was a kid.

Hope Pokémon never dies! My son now likes it, hopefully his son will too!

If you want to buy on a punt then offload asap for a quick profit
Arguably, 90% of those buying are looking for a stag profit and have no interest in holding for the long term.
Once the initial buying panic is over and if you have not sold then you will be holding some expensive postage stamps.

Could be a niche overseas market for these. Kind of like coke products.

I remember 17 years ago before 250ml “skinny” coke cans were released to the market, they were being ‘trialled’ in a town I lived in in Queensland. Turns out people all over the world (and in Australia) were willing to pay top dollar for these cans (emptied by piercing a hole in the bottom) on eBay. I made a few thousand dollars lol.

    • Yes this is a good point, Pokemon Collectors in the Japan in US would love these

  • Thanks. Bought.

On closer look at the photos the Pokemon stamps are disappointing. All the $1.10 value stamps have a picture generic balloon with string. The Pokemon images are next to the stamps without any value.

These were released on May 2021 and only recently sold out online for pack 1. Only things with limited mintage go up in value and hold their value. The excitement for the stamps will pass and sellers will be stuck with them. Heaps of new Pokemon merchandise being created each year (see Pokemon company Japan and USA) so get stuff with low mintage.

    • +2

You’re absolutely right. I was going comment on that too.

  • +1

Pokemon merch like this will go up - only 5000 in the world.

https://www.pokemoncenter.com/product/710-09309/master-ball-… - $119.99 USD at release this year. Now selling at $1000+ USD online

The other pokeballs with unlimited mintage may sell for a little more with resellers but still easy to get them at the RRP.

    • Exactly what I thought, so many sceptics here

  • +1

    Thank you OP.
Instead of Pokémon set, I bought 2 sets of Disney Princess Stamp Pack for my daughters.
    https://auspost.com.au/shop/product/disney-princess-stamp-pa…

    • Nice I ripped up a view of them for my postage down the chain of dealers buying at 50% of face value and selling 75- 80 % .
That's my main point of where this will end up .

  • As if the balloons are the actual stamps…

  • Oh nice but shame set 1 is oos as I've been collecting the 25th edition of TCG would go perfect with them

  • Thanks for posting - just bought a couple.
Grabbed two of set 1 when they first released and wasn't aware there was a new set.

  • I know AP ,
Lets see if I'm right they will mass produce and restock soon .
Save your $$$$$ if you want to waste it ,

  • +3

Retail price for an item with a hope of making a few dollars is not a bargain. Should not be listed on Ozbargain.

  • may not be a bargain - but still was useful for me - thanks mate!

  • Got a set 1 from my local post office at Haymarket

  • Main winner is AusPost, who sell loads of stamps that cost little to print that never get used as people hoard them in hope of future profits.
