Half-way through this at the moment and it is indeed phenomenal. You really do need to play the first one though.

    • +3

Crazy but my mate played this one without having played the first and he was addicted. He did say it went on too long though which i agree to some extent

    • Where can I get the first one

      • +2

It is on Amazon for $9 (a great price as well).

        • Thanks mate, bought it.
Was about to buy one second hand for 15 bucks 😂.
Should this be posted as a deal?

      • It's free on the PS+ Collection (gives you 20 free PS4 games if you subscribe).

    • What happened to your right arm?

      • +2

        ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • +6

Ì felt a bit disappointed in this game. Great in its own right but it was like the target audience changed from the first game. Just my humble. Worth the $19 either way.

    • +7

I was the same but not because of the gameplay, the gameplay was fantastic. I just did not care for Abby and her side of the story. I felt her parts were a huge slog. That's about where I put it down.

      • -8

        Bingo.
The game is a real slog

        • Didn't downvote, but it's the disinterest in the character that makes it a slog, not the game itself.

      • +4

Gameplay was fantastic? In comparision to what? While I enjoyed it overall, I thought gameplay was one of its worst parts, it's nothing that Hitman or MGSV didn't do years earlier or better.

        • Other Naughty Dog titles of the sorts really, I liked the controls of TLOU#1 and I'm a fan of how the Uncharted series do too.
So I guess it comes down to preference?

        • +1

if you compare gameplay between MGSV and TLOU 1/2. I am afraid I have to disagree with you on this. They are not the same.

I bought this at launch and NOPED out of it an hour in. If you’ve played it you’ll know why. I plan on coming back to it but I could have just waited to buy it and saved $50 :(

    • You've got me curious..

      Why?

      • +6

A certain plot circumstance. Not spoiling but if you’ve played even the first hour of the game you’ll know what it is.

        • +1

Each to their own of course, but I've never understood the backlash over the narrative direction in 2. I loved the first and sure, the event you're talking about is jarring (it was supposed to be), but it's an objectively amazing game in its own right.

Totally get all the opinions about Abby and Ellie, and I share degrees of agreement, but it's also a well written, extremely well acted, technical masterpiece with fantastic sandbox stealth/combat mechanics.

      • +1

They make some very edgy story decisions.

It's a very well told, but bad story. The next one will have a huge reduction in sales.

    • +11

Ehhh why? Just done a run through 1 remastered and half-way through 2 over the past week. It's utterly fantastic.

      • +4

I'd recommend finishing the game first and asking the question later mate. There were a lot of people who got upset over the dot points of the plot when they were leaked prior to their release and they let it taint their experience of the game. Just so the plot is not spoiled for you, finish the game first.

        • +1

          You da real mvp

        • +3

Just finished the game. Absolute masterpiece. Loved it all!

          • @Hybroid: Glad you liked it dude :)

Now Google the "outrage" and make your own thoughts about the situation.

  • +7

Brilliant game, how Naughty Dog managed to get a game looking as amazing as this to run on the PS4 I will never understand.

  • +5

The fanboys of TLOU1 need to relax.

They didn’t like what happened in the story in the first part and call the game a fail.

This game is a masterpiece and won the most GOTY awards last year.

    • +8

They didn’t like what happened in the story in the first part and call the game a fail.

Like almost 99% of comments that defend part 2, you've made a straw man argument by misrepresenting the gamers that don't like part 2, which is due to the plethora of serious problems this game's story had. Why don't you look on YouTube, at pretty much every independent gaming YouTube channel with a decent following, listen closely to all the criticisms, and you'll quickly realise it's not because "we don't like what happaned".

      • +1

        Pacing, what else?

Only watch after completing the game.

Skip to 46:04 mark if interested in just the full list as a screenshot.

I couldn't disagree with any of the flaws (purely story related), referenced here.
eg. Pacing is cited (with a full explanation to why…)

    • +1

This does seem to be the general consensus, huh.
I feel like an outlier sometimes because I actually loved "what happened" in the first part of the game, but still think is an overhyped fail. It just never grabbed me much beyond that.

    • +1

won the most GOTY awards last year.

won the most GOTY awards of all time.

    • It's fine that you love TLOU2, but don't assume you know why most people don't like part 2. This assumption because it is due to "that" is incorrect. The story uses the same formula as part 1, someone important to the main protagonist died suddenly…. and ends once again with mission unaccomplished.

The main issues are (1) it is written too much like a TV series (too many characters just does what TPTB wants them to do) (2) it is trying to do too much (3) the LGBTQ elements, while very well done and organic, does affect the overall pacing of the rest of the story.

GOTY award last year - that's another thing. Due to Covid, it was obvious Naughty Dog knew they won beforehand. One of the twitter comments was somewhat arrogant. Basically, it was so obvious that even though the public voting has Ghost of Tsushima being GOTY, Neil knew the game won (since critics votes count way more and GOTY award show was pre-recorded).

      • +7

The fact you listed the LGBTQ elements as a primary con against the game indicates that you're likely in the group of people who raged against it prior to its release. Playing it (and not exposed to the raging prior to release) I didn't even really notice them, and was surprised that some people took issue with it considering the LGBTQ themes already started in the DLC for the first game, released 6 years prior.

  • +2

It’s not the cheapest; it was $9 on Black Friday.

  • +5

Best game ever. Worst sequel ever.

  • +11

It's been 1 year and 6 months, but the game is still triggering some "players"

Naughty Dog really achieved their target about people talking of the game years later.

It's not perfect, it's an extremely good game and just like all games, it has its flaws, but some people don't want to let go.

    • It's fine that some people love the game. However, just don't bring down people who dislike the game.

The graphics, animation, top notch. The story isn't everyone's cup of tea. The actual issue is that it was hyped up too much, and while the graphics, animation delivered big time, the story does disappoint some people. The end result is that it has not yet made it to the top 20 best selling PS4 games yet.

Name a revenge story that's awesome? Better yet, name a revenge story with as many time jumps as TLOU2. I really hope Naughty Dog move on to a new IP, rather than TLOU3. Honestly, to top TLOU2, which character do you think need to die in TLOU3? Are you really looking forward to that?

It's not people who dislike the game not willing to let go. It's the opposite. We are letting it go. I just hope Naughty Dogs does the same.

  • Any news on when the multiplayer will be released?

    • Naughty Dog is staying mum on the topic, other than to say they're still working on it. I wouldn't expect it to come out until late 2022 or early 2023 at the earliest. Most likely bundled together with the TLOU Remake, would be my guess.

  • +1

I didn't particularly like the first game but I think this is honestly one of the best videogames ever made. Well worth the price.

    • Omg really. I loved the first one. I shat myself
A few times while playing it. Was awesome

What didn’t you like about it? I’d love to know. I was probably the perfect demographic though - older gamer with 3 kids. Can only game maybe an hour at a time once or twice a week. I don’t play many games so it’s hard to compare it to anything. Life changes when you have kids

  • +3

Loved the game. Initially hated what happened at the half way point and the change, but after pushing through it I ended up really enjoying all aspects of the characters and story.
General impression I've gotten is that people generally love the game, but those who don't are VERY vocal about it.

  • +5

I don’t think I’ve ever seen an excercise in ‘are you an empathetic person who can see past your own bias’ quite this well done, in any sort of medium, ever. game is a masterpiece.

  • +2

Same price at JB Hi-Fi for those who'd prefer that.

  • +1

    Good game. :)

  • +1

Gg! Absolute roller coaster of a game.

  • +4

    The most woke game around

  • Do u recommend starting on Normal or Hard?

    • +1

I just completed it on 'normal' (from memory.. it was the default). Challenging enough for someone who isn't a playstation veteran. You can always change it as you go, I think.
