Need Advice on Buying a 65" TV

Hi fellow OzBargainers,

After our 10 year old TV completely shat itself, we've been in the market for a replacement. The best deal I was able to find for a 65" 4K QLED was the Samsung Q80A 65" QLED 4K Smart TV [2021] (QA65Q80AAWXXY) for $2295 reduced from $2995 at JB and Harvey Norman.

From what I can tell, Qrtings' review of this is pretty solid for its price, but spending over two grand on something is no joke! Use will primarily be for movies and shows, but my partner will casually play games on it too.

I was hoping to get advice from the community on:

a) If this is a good TV
b) If there's a better deal for a different TV out there that I should consider

Cheers, and Merry Christmas!

  • Can't comment on the Q80A, but I bought a 75 inch Q70A and 65 inch Q60A this year and have been happy with both.

My dad just bought a LG Nano91 and it seems fine, but I don't like the menus for selecting channels etc, much prefer the cleaner menus of the Samsung's.

Maybe look into setting up a PiHole or similar also and you can block the menu ads on a Samsung (though they aren't that intrusive).

Can't comment on the deals, but $2295 seems to be the cheapest has been on Ozbargain at least.

    • Love the idea of a PiHole for blocking those ads. Thanks!

  • There's been a few comments recently about there being little or no stock on some of these Samsung TVs, so you may need to be prepared to wait it out if you order one.

    • Good to be aware of, cheers :)

The other option to consider is an LG OLED, which is what I have. Highly recommend.

      Agreed.

If you're going to spend $2.3k on a 65" TV, may as well spend a little bit more and get a 65" OLED.

      • Yeah, we were originally aiming for around the $2k. If I got an LG OLED I'd be looking at the 65" A1 for $3k which I don't think I can justify unless it was on sale.

We're sold on 65" too, which is unfortunate as all the OLED Boxing Day sales are for 55" models.

I will definitely do some more considering.

    • Yeah I would have thought oled trumps qled for picture quality?

      • You don't have to think it. It's been proven many times to be true.

      • qled has advantages in a bright room.

        • The room are pretty dim when I'm in them.
