Amazon AusPost Return Postage Fun

So I've got a couple of Amazon items that need to be returned for various reasons. Ok, printed the labels out as per usual, stuck them on and truck them to my local PO.

The guy at the PO couldn't scan the QR code for whatever reason then proceed with scanning the normal-looking barcode. Didn't bothered to check untll now with 4 parcels in total and 3 of them ended up with the same tracking number. I thought that's odd. Tracked it on AusPost site, looks like there's some issue somewhere as both tracking numbers have literally over a 100 'Received by Australia Post' entries.

I suspect someone's going to have an interesting new year at Amazon…

  • I suspect someone's going to have an interesting new year at Amazon…

Why? The tracking being odd isn't magically going to make 200+ parcels come into existence that they have to deal with.
It is also possible to have multiple items per tracking number. It should say parcel number of 3 on the printouts. :)

How long do Amazon take to process returns once it's back at their post office box? I've never had to return anything before to them.

    • About a week, depending

Here's a snippet of the tracking of 1 of the 2 dupes:

      Received by Australia Post
      HOLT ACT
      Thu 23 Dec, 4.52pm

      Received by Australia Post
      RINGWOOD VIC
      Thu 23 Dec, 4.41pm

      Received by Australia Post
      DANDENONG VIC
      Thu 23 Dec, 4.35pm

      Received by Australia Post
      PARKDALE VIC
      Thu 23 Dec, 4.12pm

      Received by Australia Post
      MOSMAN NSW
      Thu 23 Dec, 3.48pm

      Surely that doesn't look right?

Same issue with me… LPO couldn't scan the return label generated by Amazon and advised I speak to them, got a new label generated with the same issue.

Seems like the tracking numbers are duplicated and they Australia Post can't scan it into their system.

I've been using the option where they pick up from home, it's been super convenient (apart from the fact that they just rock up without warning), but isn't there also an option where Auspost prints out the label for you? Seems easier that way.

    • Not for these ones, no. These are Amazon US/UK items so I don't have the luxury of them printing the labels out for me. It doesn't offer the ParcelPoint dropoffs either otherwise I would've gone straight to them instead.

  • I've been through this. Had to get my refund through Amazon Chat after waiting over a month.

  • Well 2 of them started to track correctly with their QR code based tracking number. Let’s hope the other 2 starts tracking too.

  • Try parcel point next time, it's worked every time for me….

Always go No Print Labels - Makes AusPost print the labels for you instead; you just have to supply the box and seal it.

That or go Parcel Point if there is a locality near you; you may need to do extra stuff.

I just did my first no print label and it showed up in their system as no item details.
      Great
