So you don't celebrate Christmas…..but you end the sentence with best Christmas ever?

      Righto lol.

  • +6

We have a standing agreement that we don't exchange gifts amongst us adults - just the kids.

I did receive one of those Australia Post pre-paid mastercards from an acquaintance…. dreading trying to spend the damn thing. The cards seem to be restricted to an extremely small list of "approved" brick and mortar merchants.

Got an oodie, mi watch lite, Sheridan towels, cluedo.

My parents and siblings don't exchange gifts though. Simpler that way.

I was given a IMEI locked phone. Not sure if it was really worth the $1000 but it was the thought that counts right?

    • +1

Ohh god.. that has to be the worst Christmas gift?

    • Can't you pay to unlock it for like $60 or whatever, or free sometimes? A new iPhone that you have to pay to unlock for different carriers is still probably the best gift anyone here has mentioned yet.

      • +6

You're thinking of network lock. IMEI locked phone is essentially one that has been reported and IMEI has been blocked for use in Australia.

    • +4

If it's locked, it's probably a stolen phone. It might also come free with a hidden "handling stolen property" charge! lol

    • Can you use it as in ipod to play games, music, and use whatsapp, just not normal phone calls? Or is it totally unusable?

      • +1

Calls and data via mobile networks is disabled. Apparently calls via VoWIFI still will work. Weird loophole if it is actually a thing.

As bobbified kinda mentioned it is possible that the police could come and be like you have a stolen phone that we would like back. As well as a charge of handling stolen property. Would it be worth using it for games music etc? Not really. If it was maybe $200 and not illegal to use then sure.

Luckily it was bought from an actual store not off gumtree/facebook. I have sent the store a message but due to public holidays I don't expect a reply for another several days.

So to pass the time anyone know of any cat jokes?

I got $100 cash and also the universe and businesses gave me some gifts. I found a $20 note on the ground, $100 from IMB Bank, $300 from Origin, $45 from Healthy Life, And I got a market research last week, a $90 gift card

    • +2

Does that mean the universe robbed someone of $20 for xmas too?

they would have been sent something too to make up for it

      • yep, played the original a lot as a child
        .

  • Adults get cash and chocolates. Really trying to get the olds to cut back on the chocolates. I just regift them.

Kids getting less as they're getting older.

I hand-pick and put together hampers every year. One for each family.

  • I got a Google Nest Hub, interested in seeing how they are as smart clocks/sleep devices

  • Cash. Stuck on the wrong side of the border from family who are in WA.

    • woken up by a phone call before 8am by my extremely anxious, co-dependent boundary-less mother
    • a day of reprieve from Christmas lunch with the aforementioned plus sister and brother in law
    • a negative COVID-19 test result
    • $250 in two cards from my dad and step mother
    • further confirmation that my dad is a misogynist jerk

I do actually view all of the above as gifts. Sometimes I need a reality check on who people are. It's better to get it when I'm not vulnerable.

    • Oh, I SO understand every sentiment!

Uncomfortable morning because of one horrible family member who I am hoping moves overseas before next Christmas or I don't think I will be going again. Luckily got out of there within an hour. Was invited to my friends' Christmas afternoon and had a really lovely time. As someone wise said, friends are family you get to choose. Plus going to visit partners family tomorrow which I class as the "real" Christmas as they are wonderful and I love spending time with them.

The JWST didnt blow up on launch. best present I have ever received.
and i got equally good cat snugglez while watching the launch

  • Stayed home alone (didn't bother me), parents transferred cash.

I gifted my mum 3 pandora charms which resembled love ones she lost over the year. She lost her mother and 2 brothers overseas. I can't imagine what it feels like to lose 3 family members in 1 year.

As I grow older, we have to live with these things and we don't get over it and we shouldn't get over it.
