Tesla Add-on Accessories

Guys

With Tesla - can we haggle to get some add-on freebies like mats, tinting etc??

Just wondering if someone has been able to

Isn't a Tesla fixed price web orders?
Fixed price should be a clue as to whether you can negotiate free mats.

They might give you a free tank of petrol though ;)

That’s not happening. You order online, then you wait, once it’s built they get the car off the boat, through pre delivery and out the door ASAP. It’s like a sausage factory. Consider yourself lucky if the number plates are attached when you first see it. If you want it tinted, wrapped or customised in any way then you take it somewhere else after you’ve taken possession of it. Order your floor mats online and fit them yourself.

If you want freebies or to haggle then you’ve picked the wrong brand.

The dealer was keen for me to order through them rather online - if they offer nothing I wud just do online.

Then ask the dealer. None of the keyboard warriors here can answer your question.

      • Personally offended by your comment. I consider myself a keyboard ninja not a warrior.

It was my plan to draw you out of the shadows.

Zero chance. If you are lucky you will get a free number plate frame. If you are desperate you can beg Elon on twitter and he might send a flame thrower your way ;)

BTW Tesla does not have dealers. They have their own showrooms and pop-up stores and you will have to pay the same price regardless of the place you order including online. Newer Model 3s do come with mats as standard and the only way you can get a discount would be if you (or anyone else living at the same address) are eligible for the corporate discount.

      • Ok thanks. Didn’t know that mats are free now.

Was aware of corporate discount bit but unfortunately not avlble through my employer

      • Also worth noting the corporate program is ending - must be ordered before 31 Dec and delivered before 31 March.

  • How does online ordering work. I tried to order the Model X and it won't even give me a price. Just asks to pay 350 deposit

    • Pricing and options will be finalised as delivery approaches.

Literally the first sentence as you click on the order page for the Model X.

      And if you don't like the price once it is announced, the last line above the "Order With Card" button says;

      Fully refundable

    • Because Fremont sourced Model X and S sales are currently on hold with no ETA for delivery presumably till they can source more RHD stock and/or the semiconductor shortage is resolved. Until then you can only order and take delivery of Shanghai made Model 3 in Australia followed by Model Y (which is also from China) sometime early next year.

    • The Model S and X are a different case since they are currently going through a refresh. They've only started selling the refreshed versions in the USA so far. Europe, Australia/NZ etc are planned for end of 2022 or early 2023.

I guess because there could be currency fluctuations between now and then (in fact variations all throughout the supply chain - raw materials, parts, shipping, etc) they don't want to advertise a price right now. They may also find they can make the car more efficient, that then improves the range, so they put fewer batteries in it for the same range, etc. lots of things can change in a year at Tesla.

The Model 3 is different. You basically buy it online like any other thing you buy online. If you live near one of their delivery centres they'll send you a message with the time and place to collect it, or if in a regional area they'll deliver it on the back of a flatbed to your house. There are 1 or 2 ships per quarter arriving in Australia so the time you have to wait depends on when in the quarter you order it (although note that the Q1 shipments for Australia are already sold out, so even now you'd be looking at Q2 at the earliest) If the price goes either up or down between when you order and when you receive it, you get the lower price.

    • Starting price will be about $180k+. They stopped taking O/S orders. That's if they ever get around to making RHD cars that is, demand is insane.

  • When is model Y expected and price pls? Dealer didn’t confirm

    • No-one knows. Everyone was expecting it to open up for orders late this year but that never happened. Probably dependent on their Berlin factory opening (so European orders can be fulfilled from there)

    • It'll probably start at $90k for the base model. (They wont sell the SR version here, and the LR Model 3 is about $80k).

      • They wont sell the SR version here

Pure speculation. Other RHD markets have received the SR.

        • Which markets? UK hasn't. As far as I'm aware UK is the only RHD that has the Model Y right now. From what I understand SR+ is China only.

          Sorry to burst your bubble.

@andylch: OK, but honestly, now they've put a smaller motor in the back of the SR models, do you really want a car that only does 0-100kmh in 6.9 seconds? The difference between 5.6 and 6.9 seconds is an age.

              • @[Deactivated]: There is always the ionic 5

                • @websterp: No thanks.

                  • @[Deactivated]: Why? Because it's not a tesla?

                    • -1

@websterp: Less range, performance, poor packaging, and most importantly, the software is just standard Hyundai OS, it doesn't have the vehicle integration that Tesla has. Also reports say the ride and handling isn't great (The EV6 is better in this regard, but worse packaging again). Also It can't compete with Tesla on cost, the base model is $10k more with less range and performance, the sports model isn't available yet, but it's going to be more expensive and cost more than the Tesla 3P.

The top of the line Ioniq 5 available in Australia seems to only be able to do 0-100kmh in mid 5 seconds, which is the same as the base Tesla, and has about the same range, get it costs almost $20k more. Objectively, you are getting a worse car for substantially more money.

Also really disingenuous marketing from Hyundai, like saying the car car charge at 350kw (it can't, it can only plug into a 350kw charger, just like every EV with a CCS2 plug has), range claims are made using a WLTP cycle and comparing it to an EPA cycle to make it look like it can drive further than the competition (which it can't).

Personally, I also don't like the styling. It just looks like a bloated Golf. EV6 is much better looking.
