anyone have one and can comment on the weight over time while reading in portrait mode?

edit- I meant fatigue on wrists/hands. I read comics in bed at night and the screen on this sounds great but uneven weighting can ruin the experience.

    • Why not buy a Kindle if you're a night time reader

      • +4

I like colour comics and my Kindle doesn't do that.

        • Doesn't screentime before bed affect your sleep?

          • +8

@upbeat: I use twilight and brightness at it's lowest, some comics can look like im reading them through mud. 10+ years of reading like this and I fall asleep when I'm tired usually within an hour of hopping into bed and 5 mins after I stop reading. thank you for your concern though, not many people ask.

    • Agreed with this question. I have a Galaxy Tab S4 and it is heavy compared to previous tablets and the wife's iPad.

What's a great and light 10" tablet? Are the 11" ones as light as an iPad?

    • +1

You probably need a tablet stand large enough to hold 11"

  • So lenovo is equal with xiaoxin?

    • +2

The chinese version of Lenovo Tab P11 Pro called Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro.
Basically its chinese version with installed global rom.

      • Any idea if this comes with the keyboard? It's in one of the pictures but not the description information.

        • +3

Nope just tablet + usb c cable + power adapter

  • This vs the Xiaomi Pad 5 on special?

    • This is better.

      • Sure? The comments on xiaomi says that is better. 120hz screen, amoled, etc

        • Is that the mi pad 5 or the mi pad 5 pro?

            • +1

              @CyberMurning: Yep. That's IPS right?

            • +5

@CyberMurning: Mi Pad 5 on your link don't have amoled screen, even the pro version not using amoled.
Yes Mi Pad 5 better in term of CPU performance, screen refresh rate and slightly better on other area but need to fork out extra $130+ :[
Instead of getting Mi Pad 5, I would just pay a bit more and go straight get the Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2021 model.
There's a video comparion on youtube between Mi Pad 5 Pro vs Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2021 screen, tldr: in term of media consumption Xiaoxin Pad Pro screen still better but for text reading, Mi Pad 5 Pro is better.

              • @Meaty: This?
                https://youtu.be/5IRY-_IjDkg

Holy sh. Yeah that lenovo is better. Thinner

                  • @Meaty: Ok now is this one bad or still okay compare with the 2021 model?

                    • @CyberMurning: The 2021 model is the updated version.
Build wise its the same just the 2021 have upgraded hardware, Snapdragon 870, 90Hz OLED and other minor improvement.
Then again you paying close to $200 more for 2021. Since I'll be using the tablet for media consumption, the upgraded CPU not really important.
On ETA Prime's review video, he show how good the screen is for 2020 version.

  • Do any of the cheap tablets from aliexpress come with a fingerprint reader?

    • This one come on the side.

      • u sure? I looked at the Lenovo web site and it says it doesnt come with it…

        • +2

Watch Techtablet youtube video and go to 3:20, it shows the fingerprint.
Also you need to check the spec on Lenovo US site since AU site only have the base P11 not the Pro variant.
The P11 variant don't have fingerprint.

Does this do netflix in Full HD?

    • +1

According to Clear old post, tablet "has Widevine L1 DRM so Netflix/Prime will be in FHD".

      • +1

Just because it has widevine doesn't mean it's guaranteed fhd streaming.

Providers have to whitelist the device aswell and lenovo needs to make sure software is updated (they won't)

Lots of posts on lenovo forums complaining about widevine going from L1 to L3 when upgrading to Android 11 or they can only get fhd when downloading videos on Netflix.

        • +1

And did you see the reason why that's the case in the forums? Widevine becomes L3 when you unlock the bootloader. The XiaoXin Pad Pro 2021 from Banggood for example has an unlocked bootloader, while the one from Giztop does not.

          • @Clear: Hi Clear. Do you know if you'll loose Widevine L1 if you upgrade to Android 11? Or does this only happen if you unlock the bootloader?

            • @DarthSkyWalker: AFAIK it only happens when the bootloat is unlocked. It may depend if it has a Chinese ROM or a modified ROM.

              • @Clear: I'm assuming the one on this deal has a locked bootloader? I bought it last night. I don't plan to unlock it. What would be the reason to do that?

                • @DarthSkyWalker: If the seller loads a different ROM then the Bootloader might be unlocked. I've not seen it be an issue for this 2020 version since it had a global release.

                  • @Clear: I read about an apk on another similar ozb thread that you can download which allows FHD if it doesn't out of the box. I don't watch Netflix but if you do, just google for the apk which might help.

                    • @clubhonda: If the tablet has Widevine L1 you need to do that anyway as the included Netflix app will only do SD. Apkpure is a reliable website.

Nice, was looking for a decent tablet that's below $400 just to read Manga and such.

  • Forget the Xiaomi Pad. This is the deal.

  • Delivery shows eta as Feb. Had a nasty time with ali express last time with Anker where it never arrived even after 4 months. Finally raised a PayPal dispute and got my money back. Hope this will show up on time. Any options to get this faster? Didn't go to check-out to see other options if any.

    • +2

Pay extra $50 for DHL, arrive around 9-10 January.

    • +1

Just got mine this morning. Quicker than I thought it would be.

  • People say this is bad for reading, but would it good for manga and comics? As opposed to the Xiaomi Pad 5, which is better for movies and gaming. Just want to know which one is better at what.

    • This one good for media consumption and light gaming but not for reading. If you looking for reading, go for Xiaomi Mi Pad 5.
Personally after watching couple of this tablet review, it seems for comic/manga wouldn't be that bad as long you don't read it up close.

  • Does this come with a keyboard and/or pen?

    • No way

      • In pictures, they include keyboard. If there is no keyboard, I won't buy. But agree ,it's still a good value.

  • +1

Do they offer a cheaper case Cover with this whilst buying? Can't see any good cases begging l being offered either?…

    • +1 - I'm also looking for case suggestions :)

    • +1

I got this case for around $21.80 including GST (price maybe vary due conversion rate).
Original/genuine case is around $35+ or you can grab silicone case on aliexpress for around $10.

      • Cheers Meaty - ordered the same as you.

  • Someone please confirm, this official package includes a keyboard or not?

    • The unboxing videos I've seen suggests that they do. Just not the pen.

    • +1

      NO!

    • +1

According to listing picture on description it only come:
      usb c cable
      power adapter
      sim ejector
      usb c to 3.5mm jack

  • Any keyboard recommendations?

  • Can it be used as phone?

  • +1

The official keyboard/touchpad is not cheap. You can get it for US$80.06 delivered with ePacket using the coupon AA8010 Make sure to select the correct "color" for the Pad Pro.

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003620193888.html

Otherwise any other Bluetooth keyboard would do fine.

  • All codes claimed for promo code

  • Can we get a coupon for the bigger screen version please?

  • +2

    Nice hardware, atrocious software

This 2020 TB-J706F model is not aging well - the factory ROM is a lottery in terms of Play Store/DRM support plus having to side load apps including Netflix

Currently no XDA developed TWRP/custom ROM support so along with Lenovo's track record on support for their Android tablets, this is a high spec throwaway device

    • Honestly this is what all reviews fail to mention. "it has widevine L1 blah blah blah" yeah but it won't give you full hd streaming depending on what rom you're using. Nor does anyone mention the green tinge or issues plaguing the oled display.

    • Absolutely agree. Unfortunately if you want a media consumption device that can be upgraded for many years with lineage after official support ends, this device is a terrible choice. Better off with a Samsung device.

  • Not expired, another 3 days to go.

    • The coupon reached its usage limit. Unless that's working for you?

  • -3

Permissionless location tracking on all Android and Apple devices. If you can't load an AOSP ROM on the unit such as LineageOS, it's not worth buying, in my opinion.
