Seems everything was set up about 3 weeks ago - reviews, Q&A. Just an observation.

Hi OP. Saw the compatible list of devices which includes the Nintendo Switch. Just wanted to double check that it works for the Switch without using the original dock (directly connecting it to USBC on the console) and outputting via HDMI?

    • +1

It will although the $16 one is only USB2.0 where other ones are USB3.0. EG here made by the same company (albeit at a more expensive price of AU$24.99).

      • Thanks for the link @danielh
Noticed some mixed reviews on that Hagibis product where some claimed it failed on them after a couple of months.

      • The specs do clearly state USB 2, but think the blue inside of the port is misleading as that usually indicate USB 3.

      • The one you link is USB 3.0, but only 30Hz

    • Yes, for TV Mode, please plug the charger
we recommend that you use the original switch charger or a charger with an output greater than 39W to avoid affecting normal use.

Not specifically for this one, but I used a similar one with my $2000 laptop and ended up frying the motherboard. Be wary of buying cheap knock-offs.

    • This isn't a cheap knock-off, though it is a cheaper/lower quality model based off what the reviews are saying.

Do you have a specific model/brand to avoid?

  • One other thing to note, and netrunner can add to this if he/she wishes, but where there’s USB socket plus a hdmi port on the same hub, I don’t believe you can get 4K @60hz. Something to do with DP1.4

    • Who is "netrunner?"

Lucky "netsurfer" is on the scene and knows a thing or two about tech lol.

It depends on the laptop (or device) and which dongle/hub out of those you purchase.

      General rules:

      • If you have Intel integrated graphics based device, unless you have the 11th gen CPU, it is unsafe to go for 4K/60fps hubs (unless it is DP 1.2 based with USB 2.0 port).
      • If your laptop has USB-C/alt-mode support AND a nVidia or AMD GPU, then you need at least 8th gen Intel CPU.
      • Macs follow the same rules if it is intel CPU based. For M1, DP 1.4 is supported.
      • Android mobiles (DP 1.2 restriction applies).

If you don't care about 4K/60fps (i.e. you only care about FHD or 2K), then it's probably not an issue.

Tbh, they look just like the $10 USB C Hubs on eBay..

Real deal in the comments…. Thanks mate, picked this one up from eBay to give it a shot

      • -1

The one on eBay is only 30Hz, thanks

    • -1

The one you link is only 30Hz

    • Cheaper and USB 3 too.

    Technical Specifications:

    1 * PD USB C Charging Port—up to 100W
    1 * HDMI port—4k@60Hz
    1 * USB2.0 Port—up to 480Mbps

So, DP 1.2 based chipset design with a blue colour USB 2.0 port to confuse consumers? At least it is priced like a DP 1.2 based dongle.

Looks like we had similar thought, look up at my comment same time as yours haha.

Well, the one you posted is 4K/30Hz. It is fine for Switch due to Switch's max HDMI output limitation.
