Best Ceiling Paint to Use in Bathroom?

Well I'm going to repaint my bathroom ceiling which has minimal ventaltion and has some mould comming through.

What do people use/recommend? Also I presume I'm good to use the same paint in a bedroom ceiling.

Cheers

I use regular ceiling paint like any other room. The most important thing is to treat the mould and prep the surface correctly.

  • Flat white - any brand - any room.

  • Zinsser primer with added mould killer additive then overcoat with a bathroom/kitchen paint you like and also add mould killer additive to it. There are a few different Zinsser primers/undercoats so to choose the right one go into a paint store (Not Bunnies) and ask them which one you should use and get it.

I find the Zinsser primers are way better than the Dulux primers I have used in the past. When I did the bathroom the paint was peeling and there was also stains etc and 10 years later the paint was still as good as the day I painted it if you use the right products and add the mould killer additive.

Buy this. We use it in most of our bathroom apartment projects.

If you use standard flat ceiling paint it has high chance of flaking over period of time in humid environments.

I have had highly successful results with…..

    1. Prep the ceiling first by thoroughly cleaning it with sugar soap and if necessary (because of existing mould) diluted bleach.
    2. Let fully dry, then if necessary, sand, then wipe clean.
    3. Apply one coat of 'Dulux Precision', allow to dry.
    4. Apply two coats of 'Dulux Ceiling White +PLUS Kitchen&Bathroom'
  • vinegar kills mold chlorine doesn't

Coles sells 4% vinegar, which is double strength and works allot better at killing mould in the bathroom compared to the normal vinegar (2%).

  • You can buy an additive from Bunnings (the paint counter) which you add to a normal interior paint to add the mount protection.

Also, it is probably best not to use the white ceiling paint which is pink when wet and dries white - in a bathroom the moisture can create a pink tinge on the ceiling due to the steam from showers etc.
