Pretty expensive, but limited edition is worth it.

They are not really limited edition and have been on sale for the same price many times like the HD6XX.
These also have a bad reputation for defects such as driver failure.

I've learnt that because FOCAL make great home and car speakers, I have had both, So based on that i purchased a set of Focal headphones albeit $500 not $800. My $50 AudioTechnica MX20 sound better and they are 10+ years old.

    Try before you buy.

      Could not agree more.

Did you pay full price for Focal Listen, that are not even worth the discounted $150 price?

Hate to ask the obvious, but did you use an amp?

Opposite take love my Focal Clears. And had Focal Elears but they had shoddy quality so was able to trade them in after breaking for the third time. Focal Clear hasn't broken and honestly I love the sound. I've got HD6XX and K7XX also. It'd be Clear > HD6XX > K7XX. Though if purely gaming K7XX wins hands down but it is a bit harsh but you will literally hear every single sound around you

    • You just don't like treble happy bass light "flat" sound profiles on headphones.

don't waste money on $500-1000 earphones.
buy a cheap HD6xx or expensive HD800s, the end of game.

    • +3

HD800s are definitely not an objective end of game for everyone, especially if you're sensitive to treble.

      • Very true.

I was fine with my HD800s until I picked them up again after listening to the Elears (bought when that 500$ deal was on).

The treble was just very hard to ignore after that.

They are pretty good aside from that though.

I didn't think the elears were anything special, even at 500. Surprised people had problems with build though, mine seemed built like a tank. But then, I probably have logged about 2 hours on them :-)

I've actually really enjoyed my Elears and consider them an incredible buy at $499 (which is what I paid for my set too). It has a very similar signature to my LCD-2 which I also love. Sounds its best when driven with some power.

Build quality issues have been noted, buy luckily haven't run into any on mine even with extensive use.

    • I always state my pleb opinions as objective fact.

    • Are $500 Sundaras a waste of money?

      • Want to know as well. It seems to be considered to be a step above the 6XX but would be great to know if there’s any consensus on this.

        • +1

I have both and would definitely recommend the 2020 revision Sundaras as an upgrade. Big disclaimer though, the comfort for extended listening 2hours+ is amazing on the 6XX. I find the sundara clamps my ears a bit and I don't have big ears. The soundstage and low end is a significant upgrade on the Sundara compared to the 6XX.

      • They seem to be well regarded headphones, especially after the 2020 update. Depends if you see $500 worthwhile to spend on a pair of headphones.

        • From what I've heard, the HD6XX has a less divisive sound signature. The pair I have are great with a dedicated amp.
