TDK LoR ST-600 USB Gaming Headset "PC Only" - $5 with Free Shipping from Dick Smith

2920

Saw someone mention this on Whirlpool, so I decided to check it out myself. They're PC only, so they're no good for Xbox or PS3 users. I don't know how good these are sound-wise, but TDK is a good brand and $5 isn't a lot of money, so even if they're absolute rubbish, it's no big loss. They'd be more that good enough for Skype/Msn.

It's my first bargain submitted here so be nice. Please don't start a Dick Smith flame war or anything.

Edit: Turns out that Dick Smith have started their online sale a day early, so there's a whole heap of discounted games as well.

Update: Deal has expired, so it's been marked as such

  • When I plug in the USB there is terrible static. The box also looks ripped… returned unit?

    • Yes, there is static too in mine (when plugged into USB)

      • Is this with the "Vibration" thingy on or off?

  • Got 'em this morning as well. :D Tracked last night, said that it's still in transit (Sydney) overnight, then woalla 8am in the morning the package has been delivered to my door (Melbourne). A nice surprise. :)

  • after a few hours with these headphones, i would have to say for $60- no way. For $5- fastest i've ever disowned cash.

  • Damn! I'm no elf, the headset is small! and is not deep enough to cover my ears! cant use it too long! hope it fits my girl friend's ears!

And yes it has static when used with USB but not with batteries.

  • received today

Using USB ports directly on the motherboard is a lot better. Also having USB connected and switch in off position still boosts bass.

Also tried it on another PC with a better PSU (Antec Trupower) and there was much less static.

Great buy, the box looks like its worth at least 5 bucks

  • Purchased one, reviews are it leaks sound like a ho, It is good as it comes in a professional looking box. Cords are abit long.. OK it just doesn't seem as responsive and crisp.. This is coming from an in ear-headphone user though. Can't complain at $5, would I buy it for $30, Maybe. Definitely better then my sony headphones I purchased for $75.

  • Recieved mine this morning, haven't opened them as they are for work colleagues.

As DSE are closing down I expect more deals like this from in near future.

    Thumbs up.

  • Mine also arrived this morning. Great deal indeed!

The headphone is lack of high and mid, not suitable for music with high and vocal. However for techno channels like Gorilla Dance or Novanation, it is superb, the vibration (bass) sounds best when in the mid or lower mid setting. Should sound good for games with boms and guns too.

There are 4 small speakers in it, 2 each side. 1 is for normal sound directly from the source (going through the volume knob), and the other 1 speaker is amplified with a TDA2822M Stereo amplifier config as bridge to boost the bass.

The reason why most users were having static is because of the Ground from the USB and Speaker. From a quick look at the PCB inside the case, the grounding were not properly designed. Without hacking the board, the quickest way is to use batteries on the powerpack or use external 5V power adapter.

For $5 its a steal, will not pay more than $50 for this headphone.

The wires on the 3.5mm jacks are ridiculously thin. I wonder how long they will last.

Best $5 I've spent by far.

These headphones are horrible, I would have been really pissed if I paid $30 for it. That aside they were still a bargain at $5 and they are confortable, wouldn't be able to find better ones at the $10-20 range. These don't compare in any way to my Creative Aurvana Live though.

I'd also like to add that these headphones sound like garbage. It's hard to complain since I got them for $5, but I certainly would not miss them if I didn't have them. I imagine people who spent $60 on these things were a bit sour about it, because they're just absolute trash when it comes to listening to music. Weirdest of all is this vibration feature, despite the bass itself being incredibly muddy and unenjoyable to listen to.
