The Seiko SPB103J Prospex Sumo is an automatic movement watch with 200m water resistance. The SPB103J features a classic looking watch with an emerald green case and dial along with a stainless steel case & bracelet.

Featuring the Seiko mechanical automatic 6R35 movement, the SPB103J1 has an accuracy tolerance of +25 /- 15 seconds per day. This model is finished in full Stainless Steel. The hands and the markers have lumibrite to make them visible at night (once fully charged). The case size is 45mm and thickness 12.9mm and the entire watch weighs approximately 190gm. Being a 200m dive watch, features include a screw lock crown, a screw case back and a uni-directional rotating bezel. Additional features include a date function and a stop seconds hand function.

What we love: The finish and the clean look. The green dial along with the overall finish of the model. Destined to be a Seiko cult classic model. Feels solid on the hand. Made in Japan. Images don't do this watch justice.

  • A bit risky buying a high-end Seiko unseen given the Quality Control issues Seiko has been having. I would prefer to see the watch in person before spending $700+ on a watch but to each their own.

From what I've heard in the past, Starbuy are very easy to deal with for returns.

Return Yes. They changed the watch when it arrived box damaged. I sent to them and they sent the exchange watch back. But, they never refunded the postage I paid although they committed to do it but never received it, sent email couple of time but no response !

Not defending them but give them a call: (02) 8069-0420.

    • What should you look out for in terms of quality control?

      • Seiko's are notorious for misaligned bezels, chapter rings etc.
It's almost so common, fans of their range expect it as a 'feature' almost. A 'feature' which you'll even encounter on watches under $2000 from their range (which is disappointing but has nothing to do with the seller, online or in-store will still receive stock with these issues regularly).

All good and well trying to go store to store, but few "bricks and mortar" retailers will match the competitive prices of StarBuy, their service and response to queries is excellent in my experience. I believe they do have a Showroom in NSW.

        • The pricier ones are still made in Japan. Personal experience with Sumo has been good. On par if not better than similarly priced Swiss watches eg Tissot.

  • I don't understand a dial so small on a watch this size.

Watches with Smaller dials ‘wear’ smaller. So, Case size being equal, a watch with a bigger dial will look bigger on the wrist. For example if you compare a 40 mm pilots watch with a 40mm divers watch, the pilots will looks bigger because, amongst other things, the size of the dial on a pilots watch is bigger than a divers.

More than anything though, a watch’s lug to lug size is a better indicator of how it wears, not the diameter

See this article, the case shapes section, for what I mean:

Took a while given Covid circumstances, unfortunately it's still exhibiting the same problem….
