Ways to Design and Furnish a Small Room

Hi Everyone!

I am in need of ideas on how to design and furnish a small room to make it practical for guests to stay in.
The room has no windows, and also no cupboards - basically a blank canvas.

It's approximately 2.5m x 2.4m.

Any ideas? I'm really struggling …

  • Small room. Why not put in a decent sofa bed so it doesnt look full when not being used

    • Then its just a random room with a couch….

      • and when no ones sleeping in it, great for reading. Maybe put a tv on the wall and have a small parents retreat

    Man that’s a small room… more of a walk in robe…

If you don't want to cough up for a sofa bed, consider a day bed from Ikea or perhaps, go even more old school and simply buy a foldaway.

That way you can utilise it as a study 99.9% of the time. If you want more ideas, jump on Pinterest and look up 'tiny room bedroom' or similar.

Consider a Murphy bed, so you don't have a conventional bed permanently taking up half the space.

What is the prison term length of your guests?

    • This depends on if its the mother in-law coming to stay or not ;)

The room has no windows, 6m2…

Smallest fold up bed you can find.

Perhaps a slot in the door so you can slide their food in while staying to give the true experience

    You need a wall bed

      Murphy bed

      • Is a wall bed and a murphy bed different?

  • You need one of them really big fancy 4K TVs mounted on the wall to simulate a window. Then hook up either a webcam looking outdoors or find location/time/seasonally correct images and display those.

    • The best idea so far!

  • Lol at "bed 3" on real estate image. Not a bed if it does not have a window.

    • Who sets the definition for a bedroom anyway? Agents will just write anything they want on a listing.

  • +1

That's not a bedroom. No natural air, no natural light. Shouldn't be legal to have someone sleep in that cupboard. The agent who sold you that should be ashamed that they listed that as "bed 3".

    • Correct. There are minimum requirements for bedrooms. Refer National Construction Code/ BCA - Building Code of Australia.

This "Bed 3" is actually a storage space.

Make sure to feed your guests baked beans, as overnight they will suffocate…

  • Simple, don't let guests stay in it? Make it a study

    • My guests are all ozbargain users.

  • Definitely an ideal guest bedroom if you don’t want them to ever visit again.

  • That’s not a bedroom. It’s a storeroom that a real estate agent thought they could upsell.
