Confusion on eBay Exchange Process (Sony MX4)

Purchased a seconds on eBay from the deal some time ago. Wasn't sure if these creases on the earpads are normal or not. eBay said to communicate via the refunds and returns link. A little confused, only after an exchange but ok. Lodged a claim and took pictures of the earpads. Sony replied replied back for a return, and the refund will be issued back, eBay will take care of the postage process.

Super confused. Does anyone familiar with the exchange process know how it works?

    Well

    1. Ebay CS has no idea about anything (including their own policies) and I am nearly 100% sure Ebay management trains all their CS staff wrong, on purpose as a joke.

    2. Wouldn't you have been better off emailing the seller (I assume its affiliated with Sony) the issue and they could have advised? Otherwise just return it and re-buy it, it would be the same end result?

    • Yeah so I was sussed about eBay's response and contacted Sony directly myself. I haven't heard from that yet.

  • Please share photos of said creases.

Sounds like you might get unlucky and only get a refund, not an exchange.

    • When I get home.

Why?? Because they're just ear pads? Ives justified as best as I can that I'm concerned about hygiene issues seeing that the ear pads haven't been replaced and your seconds and refurbished states that everything's been made me before selling that is, in a good sellable condition. Not sure if I would say this sellable? I'd be thinking yuckk as I'm imagining someone's sweaty ears

      • Sony replied replied back for a return, and the refund will be issued back, eBay will take care of the postage process.

According to your post, they mentioned a refund, not replacement.

        • Sigh…

I need to clarify again with eBay Sony.

If replacement, The quality is just so good and getting a replacement is like a lucky dip.

      • Seconds is different to Refurbished.

A refurb I'd expect to have new ear pads, but I'm not sure if it would be the same for seconds?

        • Other way round (I think)

A second, which should not be confused with "second hand", is a brand new device which did not pass quality inspection. Often issues could be cosmetic such as light scratches and the device should be in working order. These should have the full manufacturer warranty.

Refurbished is a little bit of a grey area. If it's "manufacturer" refurbished then it is probably a faulty return that was repaired. In all likelihood, all the consumable items (such as the earpads, headband etc) are replaced for obvious hygiene reasons. Another aspect is sometimes people return items due to change of mind so the retailer cannot resell due to it no longer being "brand new".

Regardless what kind the OP received (second/refurbished), if it was done properly i.e. not through a dodgy third party, then the earcups should be clean and the crease was probably caused during manufacturing.

  • Merged from Frustrated Dealing with Sony eBay for Product Purchased from Last Deal Sony Headphones MX4

I bought a Sony mx4 headphones from Sony eBay. Everything was in very good condition except for earpads where they looked pretty worn out and was concerned about hygiene issues. Like it doesn't look sellable, creases everywhere.

I contacted eBay about how to process a replacement. They said to do it under the returns claim and make a note in the message for a replacement. The seller will communicate with you via that process and from the assessment ask whether I want a refund or replacement. I did extra research to make sure that process is correct.

Feeling a little adamant about the process, purely because it says 'return' lol I messaged directly to eBay Sony. They also said they will make a note about it.

A few days later I GOT A REFUND. WHAT?!?!?! I'm blown up!

A few days later I GOT A REFUND.

      Oh no!

Quick, call the Prime Minister! Or Dennis Denuto.

      • Definitely a job for Dennis… cant you feel the vibe?

There's no obligation on any seller to offer you an exchange if a refund is easier/cheaper/less hassle/quicker option for them. Not much you can do about it.

      • I think OP forgot they had already spoken about it

      • Really?? I even contacted Sony whom communicated to note for a replacement.

Otherwise, I am happy for them to return it

You contacted a remote customer support centre (likely in Manila from my previous dealings) whom have no real connection to the person that processed your return at the remote warehouse somewhere in Australia operated by a third party provider. Probably using different systems and just clicking autopilot buttons on thousands of packages. Zero chance of getting it returned, it's refunded and gone to landfill or bulk resell pallet.
