Shaddup, its a bargain when everywhere is out of stock and everyone desperately needs one

      • +1

everyone don't need one. According to Scomo only essential workers should use them, therefore he doesn't need to order more in because its too much work. /s

        • +2

I'm not sure taking ScoMo's advice is often suggested…

          They should be free.

          Which manufacturer gives them away?

          • @jv: The federal government should fund the states and facilitate supply.

@Bedgrub: And where does the money come from?

              • +1

                @jv: Your taxes

                  @Bedgrub:

                  Your taxes

My taxes aren’t enough to fund it

                • @Bedgrub: Partly. Federal government revenue comes from many other sources, e.g. company tax and even the GST ScoMo is charging us for buying them.

              • @jv: It's a drop in the bucket compared to the billions Scomo already gave away to profitable businesses via jobkeeper

How did Australia do economically compared to USA, UK, EU over the last couple of years?

      • The ones that desperately need one should be isolating at home. Please get someone else to get them for you if you are unwell.

They can get free RATs at the PCR testing hubs.

          • @jv: Not in Sydney. If I'm symptomatic, should drive or fly to Melbourne to collect a free RAT?

      • hmmm no toilet paper or chicken either at my local coles and aldi, hopefully people start to list where they can get those ….

Got another 5-pack from Chemist warehouse for $49 2 days ago…

Something tells me $1-2 tests aren't too far away.

    • +15

Shipping and transport stay at the current rate, that will never happen.

      • Companies could end up selling at a loss if conditions change quickly and they need to get rid of their stock quickly. Not saying it's gonna happen, but it's possible.

I assume you're referring to distribution costs from manufacturers and wholesalers, not retail shipping costs, because this post was about in-store.

        • +4

          Sounds like hand sanitizer prices.

        • -1

Pre Omicron price for a 20GP is about 5K (all in), price in another 2K for unpack, dehire and just incase you got demurrage and detention. Plus the cost of the test in your container.

This is only up to the point of the DC. The cost from DC to customer's hand I have no idea as I don't do retail.

Price gauging is wrong but we also can't expect business to do deals at a lost.

@syswong: Yes Mr Wong, why do all Wongs do business ?

            • @regenade: Well I am one Mr Wong that don’t do business. However my job involve logistics….

            • -2

              @regenade: Two wongs don't make a right

    • +2

Can't even find one of the damn things here in Qld (north brissy)

      • +1

I have a feeling that many retail chains aren’t bothering to send stock outside of NSW and VIC as they have an unlimited market there. They are restricted by the government from marking up the price more than 20%, so there’s little incentive for them to pay to transport them to QLD, when they can sell them instantly for the same price in Sydney.

  • +2

    where's the special?

    • +3

Getting a test, let alone an “in stock” $10 test is not easy, at least in my area.

      • -1

not sure in other areas ….. prahran town hall has pfizer boosters for walk ins , was walking past and i asked, already have booster but was curious as people on tv say no pfizer …. brighton golf course has tests was 15 min wait ….seems the holiday test demand has dropped …… next time i need a test will go to testing station again rather than drive around for RATS like pokémon go …..

        • You do know a booster isnt the same thing as a test?

Im not sure what you are getting at if you are aware.

In respect of testing, I had a test this morning at the hospital drive through and it wasnt a RATS

this brand is not sensitive to omicron. Check TGA’s report. https://www.tga.gov.au/post-market-review-antigen-and-rapid-…

    • I have 4 2San (Lyher) just get it for back up. I want to try Panbio but they always gone in 60 sec.

      • +3

I always read Panbio as Haribo

        • I wish too, but then you have to worry about your dental bill🤣🤣🤣

While you are at the topic, I find the Haribo in Australia has very limited variety. There was much more choice when I was in UK.

    • +6

Is it not sensitive? Or data hasnt been provided yet?

    • +7

I think it just means the supplier has only provided data on the listed variants, rather than they aren't sensitive to them.

    • Did not know there are so many brands now, I recall there was only 20?

More important never know there is so many strains now OMG😨😨😨

    • I just saw this about the TGA on mon saying it's on the 2nd (not bottom at least) tier. But maybe not great for Omicron, only the other strains?

    • +1

I absolutely trust the TGA results and testing, however I do know of people who have tested positive with RightSign tests for the Omicron variant (based on how symptoms/recovery time).

    • does not say that at all

  • +1

Thanks for posting Op, sure it’ll help someone.

I know, ozbargain is usually accurate when it says kits are in stock. findarat is just a waste of a domain name and web hosting server at this point.

      • +1

Apparently there is going to be a proper website run by the Pharmacy guild with accurate stock levels starting Monday. Will be interesting to see.

  • +1

Wow. Findarat saying NSW stock is fairly plentiful? Is this the case on the ground.

I have had symptoms for 3 days after my daughter tested positive, have tried RAT tests 3 times and it's always negative. Went for a PCR and was given another RAT test :/

    • -1

If you are close contact of a positive case, can't your request a PCR test?

I also read some where that there is some people that can't get COVID…. Can't you be one of them?

      • I personally know of multiple instances where someone in the household tests positive, but some or all other members of the household do not.

Those other members can even have symptoms and after multiple PCR and RAT tests on various days both still test negative.

        So it seems quite possible.

      • Nope, no longer in the ACT.

You can only get a PCR test if you are a health worker, immunocompromised, or unvaccinated.

I went to the testing site requesting a PCR and was told no.

My wife and I have all the symptoms. Both if us keep testing negative.

There was also stock at chemist warehouse Epping. I went there after visiting a dodgy Epping supermarket that had an opened innoscreen 20 pack and were trying to sell me 1 for $18…

    • +3

I was looking at innoscreen too cos it is made in Australia. Then TGA rank it only acceptable sensitive.

It is very sad that most the other brand are made in china….

That's why I mention above I want to get Panbio. I think its made in Singapore. Unfortunately we don't have much a choice now.

I am very skeptic about these PRC garbage.

      • I was looking at innoscreen too cos it is made in Australia. Then TGA rank it only acceptable sensitive.

Only get Made in AU ones dude, you're fooling yourself with the other brands.
They report randoms, I did 3 tests 1 positive and 2 negatives within 4 hours.

No different to those "3 Ply Masks" flooding the market when they're just 1 ply folded in 3.
You're better off walking with your tshirt covering your nose

        • The AU ones aren't as sensitive. My work managed to get 500 OnSite ones which are made in the US.

      • Panbio is German made.

    • +3

If I see a store selling for more than $15 I would literally tell them I'm reporting them

Taxing the ignorant is one of the few freedoms we have left. Gov will never stop the practice, either. I wish you luck.

      • And to what end?

They did nothing to recoup the money incorrectly paid to their millionaire mates during the pandemic.

What makes you think any care about RAT pricing?

  • will go tmr, thanks OP

  • Any deals on anal swabs?. asking for a friend .

    • Come here and i'll do it for free.

  • Is chemist warehouse really doing this ?

  • So I can just go back through the line with another 20 different times then?

  • If you go to chemist warehouse at Southern Cross in Victoria, there should be a few there. I just got one last night before they close.

  • costco $149 20PACK

    • -1

except they are always OOS and whenever stock comes in its gone very quickly.

The Alltest is on a higher sensitive level but I would still prefer the non china made ones mention above.

  • The kits are free!

Just need to line up here tho —

Somehow I think going from Hurstville NSW to Carlton VIC is going to chew up a bit more than $20 in petrol.

  • Damit. I was at Hurstville yesterday, right near Chemist Warehouse. I wish I had picked some up.

  • Lakemba (2195) site of the Chemist Warehouse chain in NSW Australia had plenty of stock this evening when I went around 8:00pm’ish. Picked up two kits, no questions asked.
