Utilities Issues Advice Needed

Hi,

I am having a major issue. I just moved into a new place - apartment last month. Been living there with no issue with electric or gas supply. I signed up to a gas and electricity retailer which they said they will organise a gas and electricity initial read. They never rang the door bell or called me and say they cannot get access to the premises. But when I contact the electricity distributor, they have specific instructions to only contact the building manager and that there phone number is a disconnected phone number and that they have issues getting access. But when I contact the building manager they say the distributor come every 2nd or 3rd day of the week, he does not know which units the distributor is doing meter reads for. The meter cupboard is on my level and doesn't need any special key. I took photos of the meter but the electricity and gas retailer doesn't accept my photos either and still insist on having the meter read by the distributor.

If it isn't charging me it will be charging the previous resident. Which will be then eventually brought forward to be charged to me at a higher rate.

Really frustrated and don't know who is not doing their job properly.

    No read means they probably will do an estimated usage bill..don't worry as at some stage they will read the Meter and adjust the cost.

    Call provider again as they need to arrange afaik

    I feel your pain. Every week this is delayed must be costing you at least $1 🤬

  • Call them and ask what the initial read was and if they cannot give you an exact value then ask to speak to the complaints department and make a complaint hat the initial read was not done.
