        Because NFTs make no sense and have no value…
        So I can 'own' someone's tweet, or some pixel art? But that 'ownership' doesn't actually stop people having access to it, or saving their own personal copy and using it. It's not like copyright. I can even take someone else art and mint it as my own NFT…

        They only have 'value' if you can convince some other schmuck to buy that 'ownership' from you. Even though it means nothing.

        NFTs are a big Ponzi scheme.

          Disclaimer: I am not and NFT creator or 'investor' I am a software engineer who has worked on different blockchain related projects.

          Some of your statements are true, they are kind of 'Ponzi schemes' where if you get in early you are at the top of the pyramid and sell of your 'asset' once the price is hyped or over-inflates. However your point on them making no sense and having no value is a little misguided.

          NFTs aren't bought to retain copyright (as you said you could just copy, reproduce it and steal it it many ways) the point of owning an NFT is exclusivity. Same as a night club VIP lounge, or an airport's first class flight lounge - these things to most people costs an exorbitant amount of money that just give back little to no value.

          99% of NFTs do NOT have intrinsic value, but what are your thoughts on NFT DAO projects? or NFT projects that essentially work as decentralised crowd-sourcing frameworks? You are oversimplifying it all little bit.

          Not arguing with you, just sharing some extra points.

              @bruceyjuicy: Decentralised crowd funding is considered to be optimal for the same reason as anything else that is decentralised, to ensure the system is trustless. This way you do not have to rely and depend on a mediator (i.e. go fund me, kickstarter etc.).

              As for the environmental debate, if you are referring to the massive issue with proof-of-work blockchains, then absolutely, as they scale they rely on massive amounts of energy. For this reason (and many others) proof-of-stake is a preferred method and even proof-of-history now entering the space and lots of alternatives. The issues with those tending to favour particular validators over others is a whole other issue though.

            Perhaps. To me, the whole point of NFTs is about trying to create some scarcity value to something that's easily copied.
            As this artist puts it:

            The idea of creating artificial scarcity for an infinitely replicable product is a fool's errand at best, and an obvious scam at worst.

            I tend to agree.

            So NFTs are basically about you being able to show how much money you have to others? The main benefit of those clubs is networking, which I don't see as being a thing for NFTs. Are their meetings of NFT owners?

              I agree with all of that, it is artificial scarcity and honestly, a cesspool. It is exactly that, showing people how much money you have and flaunting it, it is a bubble and weird craze that will burst.

              The only reason why I commented is to just say there can be a utility for NFTs, but unfortunately it is covered and drowning in a pool of get-rich-quick type schemes that have ruined the space..for now. Kind of in the same way that meme coins have ruined legitimate cryptocurrency projects.

      Step 1: create thing and mint it as NFT.
      Step 2: buy NFT with your own crypto for some crazy price ($20,000).
      Now you own an NFT valued at $20,000 and you still have your $20,000 in crypto. You doubled your 'wealth'.
      Step 3: convince some other idiot to buy it for $1,000. You've made $1,000, but still have $19,000 of losses to claim against income.

      NFTs are nonsense.
