New PC Build - Budget $1000

I’ve been thinking about building a rig for approximately $1000 and these are the components I currently have leftover from past builds:

Corsair Case
Corsair 550W Modular PSU
24” 1080p Monitor
Keyboard/Mouse
500GB Samsung SATA SSD

Basically just need CPU, Motherboard, RAM, and graphics card.

Happy to buy used from Gumtree/eBay.

Looking for recommendations. I’ve been out of the game since Intel 4th gen so not up to speed with the pros/cons of newer tech. Just want to play a couple of hours of games a week, nothing too intense.

Thanks

At the moment best bang for buck is xbox series x with gamepass.

Considering the current GPU prices, it'll be difficult to build something decent for under $1000

    • $1,000 will get you one third of the way towards a good GPU, when your preorder arrives anyway.

G series amd, buy card later when prices normalise.

  • Don't have a functional older GPU laying around that'd be comparable to an APU in power?

Cause Intel is bang for buck at the moment in this insane backwards, upside down tech world - but only on the CPU side.

i5-12400 (or even i3-12100 if you're really struggling, a 4c8t with R5-3600/i5-10600K sort of grunt) + DDR4 B660 board is a monster for the money, but yeah AMD R5-5600G on quality B550 is way stronger graphics wise if you absolutely need the integrated GPU

If you go AMD with a 5600G, this board is a bargain if the deal is still on —> https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/679515

    11400 mobo combo $300-350
    32gb RAM - $145 (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B083TSJ8NB?smid=A3JCEYBC5L8UJ8&…)
    Cooler/Fan - $50

This gives about 400-500 for a GPU, which well… im sure many will tell you is unrealistic. A Rx 6600 will probably hit $599 in the coming months, but its not too future proof. GTX 1650 is within budget, but not recommended.

  • A GPU will eat your entire budget..

  • 3050 or 6500xt

Pref 3050. Maybe a 2060 from PLE for $699 if you can squeee it

    • Definitely not worth $700 for a 2060. We've seen a 3060s under $750 from techfast a number of times
Maybe the 3050 depending on how pricing goes. Hard to recommend the 6500XT after seeing all the compromises made in the design

I put together a computer for my daughter recently using old parts.. case, PSU & SSDs.

I went with the AMD 5600G and a 550M board. It is great, it lets her game and play a lot of the titles she likes (Apex, Fortnite etc)
Then when GPU prices drop, she can pop in a GPU later on.

    • 5600G with its integrated graphics should be enough for LoL and CS Go? I’m thinking about going for this combo, while waiting for GPU price to drop further.

3050 releases tomorrow (stock will probably trickle out the next week or so), hopefully there's actually stock at RRP which should put it around $350-400. It's a perfectly good 1080p card that'll play whatever game you want.

Unlike the 6500XT, which is a piece of junk.

    • $429 msrp for aus confirmed a month ago for the 3050
