RX6600 XT Keeps Turning M/B Back on from off State

Hi Guys,

I've recently bought this computer system

Received my delivery today and everything works fine, but when I tried to shut down the computer, it power off for like 1-2 second then turns itself back on again. I've done a full day of troubleshooting and came to the conclusion that this particular GPU/MB combo seems to cause this issue. Searched the web and it seems that I'm not alone on this problem, however I can't seem to find a fix.

Just wondering if anyone can provide me with a fix as I'm now stuck with this situation where all the parts works, but it just won't shut down.

Thanks!

  • Make sure GPU drivers are up to date as well as Windows and see if that helps. If not, and you can't find any help on dedicated computing forums, then time to contact the seller (BPC?) for support.

Having said that, be wary of this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/679628

    • I have already updated the GPU driver to the latest, and I've even tried reinstalling Windows. Dont' seem to work. :(

  • Hi rurouni,

Would that be possible for you to share more details through private chat? I will ask our technician team for suggestions.

    Sincerely,
    BPC Team

    • Thanks! Already PM you.

  • Try putting into hibernation instead of sleep (might need to enable with admin cmd with "powercfg.exe /hibernate on")

    • I'm actually trying to shut it down, but the system turns itself back on after 2 seconds of shut down. But yeah maybe I'll have to try and hibernate it instead.

  • What model is your GPU? Install the MSI utility and check for a vBIOS update.

Try creating a support ticket on the MSI support site. They're normally very good a providing GPU BIOS updates to address issues.

Also check the PWR/RST/HDD cables are plugged in correctly on the motherboard.

    • I've contacted MSI, they are blaming it on the MB, and told me that if I try to flash the vBIOS it will void the warranty. So I guess that will be my last step to try when I run out of options.

  • You can completely remove all GPU drivers without re-installing Windows with this tool:

With AMD GPU's I tend to find a stable version and stick to it until it's needed for a new game. You may be better off with a recent driver version that isn't the latest. You can get previous versions for trial/error from here:

    • +1

Thanks mate, I'll give it a shot. However I'm suspecting more and more it's got to do with the MB not fully compatible with the GPU.

      • No, your mobo & GPU are compatible, it's either a bad driver which unfortunately happens too often with AMD GPU's or a hardware fault.
