What kinds of muppets sell a tent that has an awning but doesn't include awning poles?

    • +3

Oh, that's too easy. It's Gonzo.

Awning poles are pretty useless in a light breeze. We use our awning tied to a tree.

Was looking for a new tent but think I’ll save my $$$ after reading some of the reviews. People have had issues with poles snapping in light winds and the tent leaking in rain.

With the money saved you could buy a wetsuit 😳😂😂

Just came back from camping with this tent for the last 6 days in Wollongong. I didn't have any issues at all with rain most nights and medium to heavy winds. Pitching and dismantling wasn't an issue. Fitted a double and a single air mattress side-by-side, no issues. Only negative was the lack of a power cable hole.

I would highly recommend this tent at this price.

      • I used to have this tent before the poles snapped and it started leaking (about 15-20 nights used). Until then it was great. I cut a hole for a power cord near one of corners and taped around it inside and out. Worked great.

I had the same doubts, but ended up buying this exact tent in December. My main reason was, my family had zero prior interest in camping and I was not prepared to risk $600-1000 for a higher end tent that may be used only once. At the time of purchase I also bought a spare pole (~$15-20) and carried small hacksaw if I need to replace pole section while camping.

So far we went camping twice for a total of seven nights and all went super smooth, no pole snapping, no rain leaking. On our second trip there was quite a bit of rain but this tent held through without single drop of water seeping in.

I would also highly recommend it at this price, I paid $199 back in Dec 2020

  • What's a good tent for a family of 5?
    Outdoor Connections? Any deals?

    • To be fair, Circus would have to be #1.Technically the truth.

    • I have the Coleman 9 person which this post is a clone of. We have 4 in our family. Mum and dad in one end, kids at the other and common room in the middle. Brilliant! You could put 3 kids in one end, or you could have a young child with you if that suits better.

I’ve been waiting for a genuine sale on the Coleman Northstar 10p Darkroom tent that’s been mentioned on OzBargain a few times. It’s also available from Anaconda. Looks like a good family option to me.

      • In my opinion,, this is a great tent and can be found for around $600, I have had mine for 5 years now without any issues, holds up well in strong wind and rain, A d the rooms are larger than the one here.

        • I've been anticipating 'around $600' for a few months now, but can only find it for $699 currently.
Any tips on a lower price than that?
I purchased a bunch of Anaconda gift cards at 15% off in anticipation of a price match, however no stores have had stock available at lower prices than the regular 'sale' price of $699 since November last year.

          • @picogary: $649 on ebay from snowys if you have ebay plus

            • @krisrey: Thanks, I did consider this but I have gift cards for Anaconda, and they won’t price match an eBay coupon total.
I may just have to enjoy my 15% off 699 (from gift cards) without the Anaconda price match. Want to go camping this month ;)

Pay the extra $ and grab an oztrail pop up 10 man blackout. They’re a great tent.

i actually came from camping and i got mine from kmart, it worked great, and its a 2 piece. under has 3 walls all mesh so it stays very cool. then another layer on top to stop the wind and rain, but you can create a gap in between so air can still come in if you like, similar to this one. its a 5 person tent, but i fit a family of 6 in there with plenty of space. i had 2 cots at the ends and a queen size air mattress in the middle. it was a very windy day, after i put in the 1st rod, it was flying like a kite. no problems after anchoring it down though, so it does hold up to high winds. held up great for me, and we camped with no electricity in the woods. can't beat it for only $85

Got one at $199 last year and had no issues. Went up easy and is a good size. Haven't used it through rough conditions yet but for this price you can't expect miracles

if you need a tent for a family of 9, may i suggest birth control?

    • Naaah that one's a waste of money

      • +1

that's true. maybe the natural route, Celibacy?

    • They are marketed as 9 person tent, and if need be 9 people may survive a night or two in them but that would be far from comfortable. I have this exact tent and we used it for 4-5 people, while keeping the central "room" as storage area.

      • ok, i gotcha. so at the campsite, you are the rich people with a huge tent with only a few people. that's awesome.

        • oh you are so mistaken, most people around us had caravans that cost $30-50K. We really felt poor in a budget priced tent.

          • @dr: lol, you can't compare apples and oranges. out of the tents though, u were the big ballers. :)

          • @dr: $30-50k for a caravan is nothing these days, especially for a family sized van. The majority of newer ones I see are $50k+, with plenty being $100k or more.

Still love my 9x9 canvas single pole tent. Or the swag for overnighters

  • Thank OP. Good find. We just bought the Oztrail Hightower Mansion 10p for $209. Used promo code 'WELCOME10' to get $10 off. But then had to do postage. But $228 all-in delivered is better than what people are trying to sell it for on Gumtree and Marketplace. https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/tents/family-t…
