So Apple stores buy in small batches from their own factory and cost them more? That doesn’t make any sense unless Apple gives discounts to the retailers to the extent that is below the costs.

          • @wtfnodeal: Simple fact is they dont need to discount

            • -1

@Spidey: Yeah just a lousy excuse the genius made up for not wanting to price match.

    • Confirmed can price match, did it online

      • explain how?

        • Just called the Apple online store to price match Officeworks price and paid online, that’s it

          • @stevenj: I tried price matching on the Apple online store chat and they said they couldn't do it. Did the customer rep over the phone do it for you?

            • @Gojiboi: Yes, the customer rep apply the discount for me.

    • I am a current optus customer. How easy is it to get price match from them? https://www.optus.com.au/mobile/phones/5g-mobile

  • Random question, does JB Hi-fi issue a receipt/invoice with name by default? For Tax refund at airport.

    • Haven't seen this one in a while.

      • Me neither and I’m actually leaving in the next 3 weeks.

        • They do, you just need to ask the person while paying

    • +1

No, but you can ask them to put it on the receipt when purchasing in store. There is a little section they can type in the PP number and name etc before it prints out.
If purchasing online for CC/Delivery then the invoice has all the required details from memory.

    • +1

They will add name on receipt if you ask for it. Have got it done multiple times.

  • +1

Apple seriously need to up its competitiveness. Paying that much for a phone? It’s becoming a luxury owning anything Apple anymore

    • +1

Get what ya pay for I guess. Source: Apple and Android owner (Samsung)

      • +1

I miss paying $340 for my 128gb v30 with a headphone port and sd card slot. Shame about the camera tho.. But.. $340.

        • Each to their own. The one thing it I disagree with tech wise is the lightning vs USB C. Bugger.

The physical connection imo feels way better with lightning but obviously the tech is far worse.

          • +1

@basketcase86: Physical connection feels better with lightning initially. However, Apple refuses to replace any original cable with a hairline crack. Also, it's generally the lightning end that has the crack.

Then, there's the downgrade of lightning to usb-c cable. Used to be USB 3, now it's USB 2 (cost saving).

The irony is Apple was heavily involved in USB-C at the beginning.

            • @netsurfer: Yup, they had a big part in developing. I think what happened was USB C wasn't ready for mass adoption when lightning came out, so they chose lightning to get rid of the long pins. Everyone cracked up about it… apply too scared to change again. Must admit I've never personally needed faster data speeds. Maybe like a YouTube/video guy? Much rather airdrop.

Would like USB C solely to get rid of carrying a lightning cord around to charge lol.

I would still rather the the feel of lightning tho, but I've never had a cracked one so I can feel your pain.

              • +1

@basketcase86: It's more about $$$ (revenue from accessories and lower cost). Had Apple used USB-C instead of lightning, it would be more widely adopted. Apple had a near monopoly of lightning to USB-C cables for 1 year. Also, if you happened to have one of a few Apple devices which can actually benefit from lightning to USB 3.0, your only choice of cables is Apple. No third party lightning to USB-C cables would be USB 3 (most people don't care about it, the Pro's would have moved to iPad Pros, which have been using native USB-C for some time).

Apple doesn't want to move to USB-C for iPhones because it will increase cost. Apple is too proud so it would implement at least full USB-C (including Alt-mode/DP 1.4) or Thunderbolt. It's not the direction Apple wants to move to. Apple wants to go wireless route (as that would reduce cost).

      • Thinking to upgrade my S10e to this. What do you reckon? I'll be first time Apple user, but love the form factor. Is it possible to use a usbc to lighting converter plug or do I need all new cables?

        • Yes you can, or just buy a usb c charger.

      • No you dont. Not with apple.

    • I don’t get this, no one’s forcing anyone to get an iPhone.

    • -2

I am an Android guy and never use an Apple product before. Apple doesn't need to be competitive in pricing because first they have their own operating system, fan base and more importantly, with younger generation these days, their criteria of buying a phone is branding and trending (youtubers and influencers etc), pretty confident that 80% of them would choose Apple (non gamers) over any Android phones regardless whether you give them the most expensive Android phone, they will rather go with any new iphone.

  • Contemplating refunding my pixel 6 and going to the iPhone mini after the continuous crashing on the camera app

    • Yeah do it.

    • I returned my Pixel 6 Pro, going S22U.

If that fizzles out, dunno what to do. Maybe iPhone

      • I'm speaking to telstra support now for a replacement, if that one is still as bad I'm refunding it

        • Just do it. It's a bad product.

          Hopefully Pixel 7 is better.

  • Currently too guys… CBA rewards are offering $20/25 off $100+ purchases from TGT if you are lucky enough to have it. So pay with your CBA cards $101 and the rest with GC.

$1200 for iphone is about right. $2,000 is too much.

  • +1

Thanks OP. Got the 12 128gb for $1025.00 because they hadn’t updated their pricing properly (their device scanned it as 1079 but register scanned as 1087 and price ticket was even higher). They weren’t happy but wasn’t too much effort to get them to do it.

    • I got Officeworks to price beat the 12 64GB at JB so picked it up for $949.

    • Thanks for sharing. How do you get $1025?

      • +1

        $1079 minus 5%

        • Thanks very much!

        • My store wouldn’t price beat as it scanned at 1078 even though the online price was 1087.

          • @Spidey: Damn, prices must’ve been updated. On mine their little scanner devices scanned at 1079 but the register hadn’t updated. They tried to tell me that it didn’t matter because I was told 1079, except I wasn’t. I literally walked in and said “I want one of those”.

  • Just curious if Apple price matches Jb Hifi? Iirc read in another post someone mentioning Apple will price match if there is a jb hifi in the same shipping centre? Anyone can confirm TIA

    • +3

Apple does try to price match big retailers, but my experience is that there is a limit on the discount amount / percentage Apple is willing to match. I did manage to get Apple to price match once, but on another occasion, Apple refused to price match. On that occasion, the staff indirectly hinted… (since Apple cannot price match that) get it from that retailer.

      • +1

Thanks mate, heading to Apple chadstone later today so will try to get it price matched with JB fingers crossed!

        • Try to price match Officeworks. $2 cheaper is still cheaper.

    • Confirmed Apple can price match!

      • +1

Checked with Apple today in store. They do and they don't price match. On the iPhone 12 they could only offer up to 10% off, so this worked out more than JB ($1151.50 vs. $1079). On the iPhone 13 they could price match since it was less than 10% off retail. They wouldn't take the full 10% off ($1214.50), just price match. Hope this helps.

  • Following, let us know how you go requesting Apple to Price match.

    • Got Apple priced match Officeworks with online order, as I didn’t make a reservation to shop in store.

      • Did you just call Apple on the phone and which model did you get? Thanks!

        • Yes, much easier than go to store

    • I got apple to price match too. Paid $1240 for iPhone 13 mini. Just them on the phone.

  • What's the instore gift card value at Jb HIFI at the moment if you go on their 12 month plan?

  • Is the 13 worth the extra $250 over the 12? I get it's got double the storage but I don't use much storage.

    • Better battery, better camera and slightly better processor. For me, I like to use phone camera a bit too much and I bought 13 mini because it’s small and cameras as really good.

      • Also probably another year of support/updates

    • +1

In order of how much you'll notice then, better battery, better screen, better cameras, better processor. You'll also get an extra year of updates.

      Worth it to me.

    • Just wondering how do you get the extra $250? I thought 256gd is $1419 which is $340 extra?

  • Bugga, I have been waiting for so long for the iPhone 13 128gb to be out on sale.
I bit the bullet and bought one 2 days ago from Costco for $1299.99 on my Westpac Black Altitude card. Does anyone know if Costco do returns for change of mind, or of any best price guarantees?
Or if I can make any claim through my card?
    I am sooooo disappointed!
I haven’t opened up the phone as yet, was going to do it today…..

  • I know Apple price match Macs down to a max of 10% off but not sure on iPhones…

    • Confirmed can price match, did it online. Their policy does not price match the newly released products, but can price match after approx. 3 months later

  • +3

Picked up IPhone 13 128gb from Apple store at Castle Hill NSW. They price matched it to OW for $1,247.
    Thanks OP.

I learned from my recent experience: if you purchase iPhone from third party sellers like JB, you won't enjoy some return and repair services as from Apple Store, for example, change of mind return, or easy replacement.

    • Care to elaborate? Never had any issues ever getting any repair or service from Apple.

      • He's probably referring to the 14 days no question asked full refund.

However, in terms of warranty services, it depends on products. Apple's warranty on accessories is no longer as good. Not only it can be strict, Apple does come up with excuses (if Apple classed the damage as wear and tear, there's no warranty).

        • Just bought from apple store. Came with 7 day free applecare. So probably worth something as well.

Apple store is willing to price match as long as sale price is within 10% of rrp

          • @forever1511: The 7 day AppleCare is due to Aus law, under the regulations, there is a mandatory four-day pause between the sale of a product and any add-on insurance for that product. In order to ensure you are still covered, Apple will provide that 7 days, just in case you ended up taking up AppleCare.

            • @netsurfer: But what i mean is that if you purchase it from jb hi fi, you dont get it right?

    • If you have applecare you still enjoy apple store warranty services.

  • Since officeworks is now partnered with Flybuys, it equivalents to another $50 off.

    • How is it $50? Isn’t it $1 = 1 point

      • +1

        1000 FB pts = $5

        • My bad, yes 200pts = $1.

  • thanks got a 13 mini red using giftcards currently on sale at coles.

    • Hey what gift cards did you use? Let us know, it’s OZB after all!

      • +1

i have used the kids card deal from coles

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/679042

        other offer from woolies

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/679469

        • The kids card is a good deal. Thanks.

          • +1

@peanut48: they are only available in $30 or $50 cards.

if you are planning to buy a high priced item you may required to do extra visits to coles, as each transaction is limited to 5 gift cards per customer.

            • @lazydesi: yeah just realised that which is a bit annoying coz then there are too many gift cards.

              • @peanut48: I have used 22 cards this afternoon, pick the silent time at your local store and offer the jb hifi person coles fuel vouchers as a token of gift for their patience.

  • "Officeworks has already changed the price and make $2 cheaper than JBHIFI."

probably to stop people from coming in or it would cost them to beat JB by 5%

  • Amazon has joined in the party.

    • +1

Will Shopback cashback work with Amazon ?

  • JB staff were very kind. I pricematched OW for $1247 for iPhone 13 128gb and asked him if they can do one better and they lowered it to $1245. Got it with 10% off TCN gift cards.

    • -2

$50 off Nd you are celebrating?

  • Picked up the 12 mini today to replace a busted XR. Nice phone, no regrets.

  • Thanks OP, payed $1049 for the iPhone 13 mini 128Gb with AAMI gift cards (5% off). If it helps anyone, GC limit is $100 and daily limit is $1000. Add one $100 card and then go to cart and increase to 10x. Just a bit fiddly to put in 10 separate GCs on the JB Hifi website but it's a quick $50 saved.

  • Hopefully there will be extra cashback from Amazon soon

  • Thanks OP ended up getting the 13 mini.

  • Dang bought an iPhone 13 256GB a week ago at full.

However, I did end up calling the JB store where I purchased a phone to see if there was a price protection policy on the device, considering I only bought it a week ago (I figured out I had nothing to lose). The staff at JB were more than happy to do for me, so I ended up getting a $100 refund :D

  • -1

Thanks OP! Grabbed the iPhone 13 mini. Thanks to @cheapfab for selling jb hi fi gc at 10% off, easy transaction and I was able to use it online. $990 for the phone, happy with the purchase.

  • Thanks OP, was finally able to order the iPhone 13 Mini 256GB using a combination of gift cards (TCN Kids and Suncorp Rewards Points redemption), which ended up costing me $990 and if I get the GST refund it'll be further reduced to $874.64, which is not bad at all.

    • -1

oops, made an error and forgot to include some other discounts, so I actually ended up paying $820 and after GST refund it will be $704.64..

      • Cool story bro…

      • What were the "other" discounts? I am interested in how you got the 990 price to start with given most gift cards are giving 5-10% discount. Only asking because I plan to get the 13 mini for my wife and would love to get the price down as low as possible.
