Defensive Driving Course Sydney

Anyone done one around here and can recommend someone? I've done two on a bike and felt it greatly helped me on the road as well as having a bit of fun letting the rear loose on weekend twisties. FIrst time owning a RWD and looking forward to doing a track day in a few months when I've gotten more used to the car. Don't really know what to expact, just want a safe environment to get to know and push the vehicle a bit. Bonus: is skidpan, J turn, and etc a thing or is that only what I see on YT in the US of A?

Defensive isnt skid pan. You test ABS brakes, swerve test, and do a turn multiple times at a progressivly higher speed (so you can feel the car give way).

This was all for free with AAMI (safer drivers course)

    • Ah I should clarify I was kinda look at defensive driving + bit of fun. Can you elaborate on the free with AAMI thingy, how does that work?

      • You need to be a P plater, under 25, and parents have comprehensive insurance.

At the time, all the big players offered it for free

        • Oh, well, nevermind then I do not qualify :c

        • I thought you just had to be under 25 and insured with them. That's what it was when I did it - things could've changed since then though.

          • @bobbified: i did it a long time ago

            • @Davo1111: It's been about 20 years for me! I really did it for the extra discount on the policy, but it ended up being good fun and I'd recommend it to anyone! haha

    • Every defensive driver course I've done has involved skid pan for under/oversteer demonstrations. You can't just go out and do what you want though. Maybe they don't it if the particular location doesn't have one.

No one is going to cover J turns etc as part of a defensive driving course.

  • Just don't forget to learn how to PIT manoeuvre and how to drive against a PIT manoeuvre.

Oh wait wrong driving course lol haha.

  • J-turn? Lmfao I would be seriously surprised if any "defensive" driving course taught you how to do a J-turn because you would never need to do that kind of thing when driving normally.

Maybe a stunt driving course or something is what you're after.

    • That was just wishful thinking in case there's an all-in-one package of the sorts :P

Kind of like a combined "defensive" and "drive like an idiot" course?

      • There is - if you can get yourself in an advanced personal protection course, then they teach that kind of thing!

Any main road in Sydney during peak hour is a defensive driving course.

  • It’s called use your mirrors and drive to the conditions.
Most people seem to forget that the cause of ‘all this traffic’ is them being in the road too. But d1ckheads will be cnuts and think they own the roads so just keep and eye out for Ute and 4wd drivers.

done a few with them, but the actual trackdays are more fun

  • If in NSW, https://www.sydneymotorsportpark.com.au/collections/driver-t…

However I think you want Motorkhana rather than DT. I've done both the skidpan and figure 8 skid pan with my motorclub. Turns out cheaper that way, also club events are more fun than driver training, they wont give you $#!t if you push it, opposite.

Love the figure 8, trying to nail it as one big drift is so much fun.

Goto any empty industrial zone on a Saturday night and you can learn the "defensive driving" you are thinking of with the like minded.
