      • Sounds awesome. I'm betting it costs a lot more than the price of a universal remote though (despite obviously having a lot more functionality).

    I press, Doors locked.

    5 seconds later… Doors unlocked…

"Hang on, what the hell.. w-who's there?…"

    Quickly I press, Doors locked..

    ..Doors unlocked..

"W-w-who's out there.. is someone in here?.."

Phone begins to ring, I pluck up my courage and clammer, "h-hello? W-who is this?"

    Anxiously, I press, Doors Locked.

    ….Doors Unlocked

With sweat on my brow, I stammer, "W-why the hell do the doors keep unlocking.."

….another voice asks, "do you like scary movies".

Looks like a lot of people in this thread are not Scream fans haha!

I have one of these remotes coming soon. My harmony touch has had battery issues, even after replacing the battery a couple of times. Hope the Sofabaton is a good alternative.

Edit: Beated to it. Too bust reading all the comments

    • Twins. They are pretty US focused on their updates butnim hopeful by March for us…!

    • Yeah my cheapo Logitech Remote keeps killing the batteries I have to leave them out of the remote, it's Harmonys basic model even the dien volume is playing up

    • Had a logi remote, I think 650 or something which would go through batteries in like a day or two. Turned off the backlight of the tiny screen it had with little change. Eating dust for the last 8 years or so.

  • Been using one with google home for a few years, works well via voice or google home app. Remote not needed.

All my AV gear is hidden away in drawers under the TV and no issues with remote functions.

    • So your saying the IR signal is penatrating through your draws or there being controlled by Bluetooth signal?

      • Bluetooth for TV and Xbox and the hub actually sits inside the drawer which operates the AV Reciever on IR.

  • I have this setup and works a charm. The hub sits in the cupboard with amp, Foxtel, and Apple TV. Works a charm

  • For IR/RF only devices I think this makes sense. But for Wi-fi/smart devices we can already use Siri/Alexa/g assistant to control them. Also, I try to get rid of all remote controllers and control all my devices using my phone/sensor/voice control. Can you explain what's the point of using smart devices to control smart devices?

    • This would be why they have discontinued the product, most new electronics can now be controlled via apps like smartthings etc. Only device in my AV setup that I need the hub for now is my old Yamaha AV reciever. When the reciever dies propbably won't need the hub any longer myself.

      • Thanks for the clarification!

Would you really want to use your voice every time to play/pause, show the progress bar, change the volume, fast forward, skip etc? Or open your phone to do it every time? I can't imagine being without a physical remote personally.

      • The point is, you can use any wi-fi/Bluetooth device/controller to control your smart devices already.

        • That is true, but controlling them on one screen does make a big difference, especially if you're controlling a smart TV box, a receiver and a TV at the same time.

          • +1

@whatgift: I see your point. It can make the integrations easier and convenient. Smart home is quite messy (Eco-system, compatibilities, etc)

Because nothing beats physical buttons. Apps on your phone are annoying, unlock your phone, find the app, look at your phone to swipe through a page to adjust the volume, phone rings, try to pause the show but oops you hung up or answer and can't pause now. And voice commands suck for anything more than a turn on the lights or start a routine type thing. Hey Google, scroll down, scroll down, scroll across, scroll backup, press enter. Channel or show surfing is impossible.

      • It's handy when your replacing 3 remotes/devices well just ordered the Broadlink RM4 Mini Universal Remote Control Hub from Amazon for $43.99 minus $15 promo code so cost under $20,.. https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B086VD96LH/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt…
If does what my crappy China version IR hub did were you can set one button to switch TV on, then PVR on, then soundbar on and few other IR instructions it will certainly save me a lot of grief, I can understand what your saying about using ones mobile as a remote etc, well I can always use the PVR remote at the end of the grief, just all the BS switching all my stuff on annoys me

Edit: reading below comments the Logitech mini hub might not do what I want, either way I paid under $20 for it even if it gets shelved after the novelty wears off 👍

Wish google or broadlink or similar would buy the remote device database. The range of devices for harmony is so much better than google's

  • Does the Mirrabella (or Broadlink) allow for combining devices for an activity eg "Watch a Movie" controlling three different devices?

    Cheers

    • The Mirrabella doesn't - it can perform macros to turn on multiple devices and set them up, but it's a device based remote control.

Edit: from what I can tell the Broadlink doesn't either - can perform "scenes" to turn things on and off, but not allow you to control multiple devices on the same screen.

  • The Broadlink RM4 pro Smart Remote Control Hub is selling on Amazon for $49.99 big difference if paying $99 for the Logitech hub, mind you the Logitech hub is heavily discounted https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B086VBXSDH/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt…

Broadlink RM4 Mini for $34.99 (and discounted further with $15 promo)

The one difference is that the Harmony is an Activity based remote, allowing you to control multiple devices at the same time, and it knows what state a device is in (whether it's on or off) and responds accordingly when you switch activities or end an activity.

      • +1

exactly what most people in here don't understand. Broadlink, google etc. are just all your remotes on one device but they are all still separate. You may be able to setup a macro to start a few devices at once but your volume for your surround sound is not going to be on the page with your Google TV. On Harmony you can put your buttons for any device in the activity itself so every device in the activities commands are right there.

  • Hmm at this price I'm tempted to buy an extra hub as a backup!

Not sure what to do if my physical Harmony Elite dies, the Sofabaton doesn't seem like a perfect replacement just yet…

I have one of these and it was a fun novelty but I wouldn't use it to replace all your remotes.
The app is ridiculously slow to "connect" and the commands aren't particularly quick.
Fine if you're going to use it for Google Home and don't have Google TV/want to control other stuff but mine is sitting in a drawer now!

    • I've been using harmony hub + remotes for years and they are always very quick to process commands (with very few exceptions). You just may have a dud or there's some problem with your configuration.

  • +1

The hub is a great device, but best paired with a physical remote like the Companion or Elite - using the app by itself can be a painful experience.

  • Pretty cool the latest devices coming out

  • +1

I have this in my home theatre. I use an old ipad mini to control it, it's mounted next to the seat . Works well.

  • If you already have a Touch or Ultimate One you can pair those with this hub so won't need line of sight from the remote any more.

    • I've had this remote with my smart hub for a number of years - it's the best - compact, no screen to worry about, and battery lasts for years. Seems it has gone up in price ;)

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Logitech-Harmony-Smart-Control-Bla…

Only thing it lacks is backlight, but that would reduce battery life anyway. Always preferred this little beast to the Harmony One - even though that 'looked' more fancy with it's colour display etc. Little remote with buttons, and shortcut keys to run profiles/macros, is what you want in a remote. I only use the app when the remote is out of reach, or I want to access a less frequented command/button.

      • Gotta love the price showing on Amazon for that remote $1,094.85! I should pull out all my Logitech remotes and start selling them. Some outrages prices showing from some places for any Logitech remote.

      • That smart remote was never sold on it's own was it? I have one, have never used it but heard they run for years on the coin battery.

Already had a Touch, and when Dick Smith went bust got the smart remote and hub for $39 if I remember correctly. Paired the hub with the Touch and it's still going strong despite the kids dropping so many times. If it ever breaks, have the smart remote to fall back on at least, though I do use the screen for extra commands so would miss it.

      • Reading people's experiences here it seems that the screens can be a mixed bag. My 650 had eneloops power it for at least a year (without a single recharge). So the screen can be ok.

That Control remote does look nice and convenient. I like the look of Companion remote, I think it only ever sold with a Hub.

      • Yeah that’s my preferred remote. Only real issue I guess I’ve had is sometimes 6x activities feels limiting, but it’s otherwise a great remote especially if you are primarily looking to turn devices on, navigate a UI (direction and select/back buttons) and control volume.

  • Got one as not sure how much longer my current Logitech Harmony One is going to last or the rechargeable battery will give up.

    • You can buy replacement 3rd party batteries.

      • with the hub, I probably would not bother replacing the battery as the main remote I used is for the Nvidia Shield TV. Let's see how well Google Assistant works to replace the activity-based setup I current have on the Harmony remote.
