      • Hi Shirleyshi,

When next promo code will be released?

  • Coupon isn't working for me

    • Coupon can be used now!

  • +10

loving mine, a few teething issues, but works great now …
    - 1st issue, my fault, had the base station stashed away, you can't have stuff to the left or right of the base station
    - 2nd issue, i'm a guy living alone, the first cleanup had plastic that blocked a suction valve and i had to clear it manually
    - 3rd issue, it said bag was full when it wasn't, fiddled and it is all good now

annoying, but understandable issues, well worth the money, fun toy, hopefully i get a few years of use out of it

    • What is your experience about the consumables, i.e., the bags/cloths/filters?

      • +3

I got mine from panmi in December. Use it once a week, vacuum about 50sqm. Haven't had a need to replace anything else but have bought replacement bags off aliexpress for when that happens.

        • much the same, got mine in the December sale, haven't had to change over the bag or anything yet

      • +5

I love mine. Been 1mth since I got it.

I bought like 16pcs of the disposable bags from Aliexpress for $24.
Quality exactly the same as the original Viomi bags.

    • Are you running valetudo or something similar?

    • +1

Hmm haven't had any issues on mine. Only thing was when it was vacuuming a bedroom, the door closed on it. It got stuck and was frantically trying to find its way back. I opened the door and it went back to base but it didn't continue vacuuming, instead said it was completed.

So I just instructed it to vacuum the rooms missed and away it went as per normal.

The app connection to the vacuum sometimes is a hit and miss but closing the app and doing it again works.

      • +4

Maybe it's the v2 with added feelings.

2nd issue, i'm a guy living alone, the first cleanup had plastic that blocked a suction valve and i had to clear it manually

      You mean Rubber? :)

    • the other issue I found is compared to my old roborock, this one does not provide a hard plastic mat, which means when you forget to take the wet mop off, it will be on the wood floor for the whole period…
Anyone has found a good solution? I cannot find a good alternative mat with that size…

      • maybe this one is good enough just for $3+?
        Bunnings Pin Mat

        • +1

that is a good idea, just need to find a better looking mat, thanks

  • +9

I remember the days when we used to use bags in our vacuum cleaners.
    And those days are back!

    • yep, but i needed the 3d mapping to do my house (crazy floor plan that confuses most people, let alone a dumb-vac) …

for the features and price, i can deal with a bag

    • This thing takes bags? How often do you need to replace the bags and how expensive are they?

      • not yet :)

no pets, filthy floors, should last about 3 months for a bag (as a rough guess)

      • I've used mine for a month now and the bag is still pretty empty. I vacuum just upstairs with wooden floors 3x a week. No pets and no carpets.

  • How is the object avoidance on this one? After owning a Viomo v2 for over an year, I feel that is a crucial requirements so I spend less time preparing the house for a clean. Also, the app/navigation sucks with it creating overlapping maps requiring frequent resets…

    • +11

got caught on a speaker cable once because it tried to eat it …

as long as the bottom of the object isn't 3" tall or small enough to be eaten it'll be fine, i've got chairs on castors and stools and couches and all sorts of random things …

the only thing it had issues with seems to be my old dyson - it actually spent quite a bit of time bumping into it when it first moved in, i just put it down to asserting dominance :)

    • No matter how good they are they'll still choke on things like shoelaces. Kind of an incentive to keep your place tidy so the vac can do its job.

  • I ordered mine on 17th Jan and still waiting for that. They are saying delayed by post. Please make sure we will get in time.

    • +3

Mine took 3weeks as it was in the middle of the Covid delivery issues faced everywhere. Just be patient.

  • This is about the price point I'm looking for, what are the competitors, what are the pros/cons of this one? Also, what does this model normally cost?

    • UV doesn't seem to do much, i haven't tried the mop function yet … mostly bought it for the mapping / radar functions …

the app is pretty simple to use and it seems to just plod about and do it's thing

      • +1

Yeah tried the mop function once and it's not really mop the floor properly. I mainly bought this as it has the self emptying function which is what a robot should do without manual intervention.

        • +3

Mopping picks up a surprising amount of dirt. My white tiled kitchen dining area is noticeably cleaner after mopping. I add detergent into the water tank and on the pad. It’s not better than a thorough mop but it’s good enough to do a quick clean

          • @choofa: What detergent do you add and how often do you mop?

            • +3

@Nanokillaz: Actually I mostly just use a few drops of cheap home brand disinfectant in the tank and a liberal amount on the pad. I mop probably two or three times a week. White tiles are an abomination and this thing has made a huge difference. I’m still amazed every time I clean the pad at how much dirt comes out and just how noticeable how cleaner the tiles are after it finishes.

          • @choofa: Hmm - thought the manual specifically said not to add any detergents into the tank, but to the mopping pad.

            • @revivor: Sure, it mentions the potential for corosion and failure of the pump in particular. As I see this is potentially being replaceable, I am not concerned. I am using a very small amount or detergent or disinfectant anyway. I will see how it affects operation in the long term, but I prefer to clean/disinfect better than just drag a damp cloth around.

              • @choofa: issue with detergent would be build up over time more than corrosion.

                • @The Hobo: Okay. Good to know. I mainly use a heavily diluted disinfectant so probably less likely to be a problem.

          • +1

@choofa: I remember Choice did a review of floor cleaners, and it turned out just water on it's on was as effective as the floor cleaners. Could be wrong but I recall they said just use water and maybe add methylated spirits to it (for mopping, not for robot mops)

            • +2

@bleeder: I think I only add the disinfectant for the fresh smell afterwards. You are probably right that it really won’t be any cleaner

              • @choofa: I'm thinking the floor gets 'infected' again pretty quick anyway. You're right though, the smell is nice after a mop!

      • Yeah the UV seems like a gimmick, completely disregarding the UV thing when I look at this

    • +1

      $599 without the coupon

      • +2

        then use the coupon :)

i got sucked into the stick vacuum for $149 when i was buying the robovac … gave it to my mum for Christmas and she's really happy with it so a win-win :)

  • +2

The viomi alpha 2 pro is releasing globally this year and has much better navigation, voidance and suction

    • When?

    • Wow. That looks amazing. Cant find the release date anywhere.

  • This was my go to
A competitor for this would be the Roidmi Eve Plus which i picked up using kogan credit

Either way i think these are great value for money.

  • Have had lots of issues with mine. Main wheel gets stuck all the time

    • -2

I have a Roomba for 5 years I never had issues with until it stopped charging. I posted a Roomba deal a week or two ago and people were complaining how horrible the cheaper Roomba's are compared to the other options. But seems like the cheaper Roombas are just missing features, but they're sturdier. Every post I find on a Chinese model, there's people posting about issues. My Roomba was flawless except, only complaint was it getting stuck on items/cords and the hair tangles.

      • My Roomba, possibly similar to yours as it was about 5 years ago, used to absolutely smash through the place. It was like watching a destruction derby with how bad it's avoidance detection was. And yes, it would always get either stuck somewhere or tangled up in something.
It did a decent job when I meticulously went around the house and moved all possible obstacles and moved around furniture etc…. but by the time I'd do all that, it kinda defeated the purpose of having a robovac.

        • Mine only has a few spots where it gets caught on cables, If I keep those tidy I'm good to go. Quite often it would run out of batteries before finding its way back to the docking station though, the "hug the wall when low on battery" algorithm doesn't work great for that haha, I didn't mind I would just go and find it when I got home from work.

People complain these new ones get stuck too though, I'm interested to know how much better they are. My Roomba with it's 'dumb' algorithm would miss nearly no spots on my apartment. I'm just worried about the quality of these Xiaomi ones. I'm thinking it might be better to have a Roomba with less features, than a feature full Xiaomi that breaks after a year.

          • @bleeder: I've had the first gen Xiaomi/Roborock vacuum since I replaced the Roomba and it's absolutely bullet proof and super reliable with pathing etc.
Literally nothing has gone wrong on it.
It's ran 1-2 times per day and only uses the standard filter/brush consumables - maybe about two filters per year or so (I wash them out a few times before replacing).

On the other hand, several years later, I also got the Xiaomi Vac/Mop (Model is STYJ02YM which is a Viomi V2 I think) and it's absolute garbage.
It struggled to navigate properly. Sensors seem to experience issues very early on. Firmware was a pisstake and wouldn't update for months due to a known issue.
I've now had to remove the plastic caps on all 4 cliff sensors as they were going cloudy and nothing I tried would clean them - so now the sensors are freeballing it with no protection so we'll see how long that lasts.

            • @Deviner: So what do I do? Try to find first gen? Haha

    • +3

Always de-inflate the tyres according to the surface and use maxtracks for recovery.

      • I always drop a few bags of sand around the house first, just incase! Don’t want to look like a twat using maxtracks on my carpet.

        • how many bags (of sand) come with the unit?

    • Stuck on what? seems like user error to me, you have to setup your house to be robot vacuum friendly.

      • Not what, who. Her!

  • +3

No issues here on third bag. About a bag a month because Labrador sheds all over hardwood floors. As mentioned just make sure phone charger cables speaker cables etc aren't in place. If there's somewhere it might get stuck often can just add a no go line like under the back of the recliner chair.

    • How many bags come with the unit?

      • I believe one possibly two but I ordered extra box which fits perfectly and didn’t need the cutting hack. Ten bags from pc byte.

    • Hey mate ingot one recently. Can I ask if the change bag orange light stays lit for you or does it only display when the robot goes back.
How did you know to change the bag did you get a notification on the app?
      Cheers

      • mine mostly fills up with dog hair so i just check it after 3-4 weeks and see if its the bags completely full :)

        • Thanks ante I do see the full bag light flash on but it doesn't stay on and I don't have a notification on the app so I was just wondering. I appreciate the response

How does it perform on carpet floors?

  • Thanks OP, got one, my first Robot Vac.

  • I ordered one yesterday for $519. Can I cancel my order and re-order at this price?

    • +1

You'll have to ask the eBay seller..

    • -1

for $20 is it worth the trouble?

    • +1

I missed using the promo code and they immediately refunded the difference on request. I'm going to give it a shot, they seem super helpful.

      • +3

They gave the extra $20 as a credit. Very reasonable!

    • +2

They said they would cancel the old order and just accept the new order! Thanks everyone!

  • +2

Have had mine for probably 2 months now? No issues at all, works great - haven't had to change any consumables as yet - only maintenance has been cleaning the brush.

Have used it to mop a few times and it works well, no complaints.

    Highly recommended

  • @OP - can we buy extended warranty on top of the 1 yr warranty?

  • I have both the first gen Xiaomi and this one viomi.

    Ouick note.

Viomi doesn't have 2 or 3x zone cleaning setting in the map or zoned area.

This means I have to do a 3x vacuum with my first gen and then do a mop with viomi. To have a properly cleaned floor.

There is no way to automate this process. Automation doesn't drill down to mapped room i.e kitchen level.

  • +1

Are there any competitors yet with a bagless solution.

I guess it's not that much extra per clean price wise but I feel like over a while it will add up compared to a just empty the bin no bag solution.

    • What features are you looking for? I have the older Viomi V2 Pro (bagless, no UV) which I find great, and you could pick it up for much cheaper

      • Just vaccuuming really.. Cliff detection for spiral staircase.. Mostly carpet.. Only kitchen is non carpet.. A few small bumps but nothing major.

I guess lidar would be best I heard so it can map the whole house or office space and do multiple runs in one go I guess instead of completely random movement.

Full automation would be awesome so I can schedule it to maybe go on every 3 nights or so or maybe even weekly and time it with the weekly bin night so I can empty all my bins in one go every night which for me is I think Tuesday morning so do a triple full go over the whole house Monday night.

No spot cleaning needed but would be fun a feature to play around with guests.

I will most likely run it at night so I guess night glow or I can just attach Led lights if low visibility at night.

No need for mopping we have a bucket and mop for kitchen and bathroom so just carpet really.. Yeah. Auto empty is nice but I just want a robot vacuum that can do a whole house and I clean it once a week or once a fort night.

        Simple really.

I have good WiFi coverage so it should be able to get WiFi every where.

Will be getting a new stick vacuum also for the areas it can't reach and just big messes.

        Can it do all this?

And most importantly how long have you had it.. Longevity is important for me as I will be keeping this purchase for a long time.. Would hate to throw it. Not the upgrade type when it comes to this.

        • Does all of this! Can’t speak for the low light, though. We’ve had ours for a bit over 18 months, still going strong from fairly regular use and haven’t replaced any consumables yet

  • +1

How does this compare to Dreame L10 Pro? Anyone have any thoughts?

  • Any chance for deals for the Xaiomi cordless vacuums OP?

  • +1

Probably a stupid question, but are the cycles run seperatly. Eg. Do you need to run vacuum then put on mop pad, or can you have it all in one run.

    • +1

See my comment above. It runs simultaneously hence floor isn't very clean. I use my first gen robo vac to vacuum 3 times and them do a mop on this one.

      • +1

I couldn't follow what you meant on your above comment. Makes sense now.

  • Mine often gives up whenever it thinks it's lost and then goes back to dock and says it finished. The chairs under the table trigger it often… Pretty annoying. Its understandable when it closes a door on itself but yeah chair legs will always move around and be in different places between each map so unsure how to fix that without putting the base station near the table

    • Seemed like what happens when there is too little space going round the chairs. It doesn't have enough room to navigate between the small spaces.
I think best to create an exclusion area around the table or pull the chairs out a little so it has some room to navigate under the table.
Worth testing to see if it works.

      • +1

Yeah it's hit and miss, sometimes it'll give up and go to the dock, others it'll do it fine.
I've watched it go in, get stuck between legs and table end, then go out to freedom, go back in again and then give up and say it's done the whole house and go home haha.

But yeah good idea, might just exclude the chair area, it's just annoying as my S50 had zero issues, thing was a tank until well it stopped working with a hardware fault haha.

        • +1

I'm not sure why, but I find this hilarious.
As a very amateur programmer, I understand how easy things for humans can become difficult to programme for.
          So many edge cases!

    • Stop it going under the chairs, problem solved.

  • +4

How is this compared to roborock ? Roborock s5 in particular.

    Thanks
