Workzone 450mm Quick Ratcheting Clamps $9.99 Each @ ALDI (Bunnings Equiv $21.60)

980

Not sure how much stock there will be as these already in store, at least in VIC when I shopped. Use their stock checker beforehand.

I didn't plan on buying these after some of the previous deal comments about their quality (their F-clamps have been good though), but I had a recent project where my basic Irwin's were too short and this would've been fine just to hold a board up while driving in some screws.

Bunnings are not matching the 450mm size and have the Craftright ones at over twice the price $21.60.

Definitely happy to give these go considering that.

Doesn't look like they are matching the F-clamp prices this time around either.

Aldi's next level stuff: from free ads for low stock to free ads for no stock.

Aldi have stock checker now. Eg. Quick Ratcheting Bar Clamps

      • What a great and helpful tool

'No stock information available' for every store in the state!

          This Myth is BUSTED!

        • +1

Says either "Likely to be in stock for the next 24 hours" or "Stock available" for me.

        • +1

          Are you in WA perchance???

I don't think that clamps carry COVID-19, but there may be another obvious reason why there are freight disruptions. An awful lot of stuff on WA shelves comes from the diseased eastern states…

        • I just checked my postcode in Sydney. 17 out of 20 stores have "Stock available" for me.

    • Delayed but quick dude

  • Urrgghh. I went there today and didn't see it while browsing past. Wish I'd seen this deal

    • I got my set on Monday evening. Forgot it was a Special Buy from 29/01 till I got link just now but there you go, the first Special Buy in a while that I've gotten that was actually there on time :P

Was in the group with all the other hand tool stuff too, like the tape measure, multi-screwdriver, various handsaws, etc.

The Craftright clamps from Bunnings are utter junk. Should have spent a bit more $ on something decent…

    • Even more reason to not pay $21 then :P. But yeah for a main set of clamps my Irwin's have worked well. But I'm not paying $37 for something that will only get rare use when I need that capacity

All ears for alternatives for $5-10 a pop …

I bought this Jorgensen set when they were $53 during 15% cashback promo with discounted GCs which meant $10/clamp.

Best part is you can combine two 15cm clamps into one 40cm clamp.

        • I got this Jorgensen clamp and it is fantastic. Very solid and excellent construction - and this is one of the cheapest this brand sells.

          • @GirlFriday: Not quite the same type of clamp as this deal.

            • +2

              @haru: Yep you're right - I'm enthusiastic about clamps :)

      • My experience is the exact opposite. My long Craftright clamps have worked really well, but my Irwins are always loose. Very hard to get a firm clamp with the Irwins. If I need ratchet clamps, I use my Craftrights (which is surprising to me, given some of my other Craftright stuff).

        • +1

I have a heap of Irwins in almost all the sizes, and a few of the long Craftright ones, and some very small ones.

My Irwins have been absolutely flawless, and were used(and abused!) extensively on a large deck + pergola build.

Unfortunately, the Craftrights are flakey as. Past a certain point the long ones just do not tighten any further,(pumping the handle does nothing, even when not trying to clamp something!) but to be fair, they don't go loose, so they do the job for very light work where I can force them into place.
The very small Craftright ones are more reliable, but they are definitely more flimsy than the Iwrins in the same size.

They Iwrins use a different design(metal release trigger at the front) to the Craftrights,(plastic release button at the rear) and I think this might be a factor.

The Irwins do cost more, but in my experience, you get what you pay for.
The mid-sized ones are occasionally in a bundle of 4 that is very good value compared to buying them separately. (almost half the cost if I recall?)

I've got several of the Irwin Heavy-Duty clamps, and a couple of the lighter variety like all the brands being discussed in this deal.

Now I only buy the Irwin Heavy-Duty models…

      • Love my Irwin clamps - CraftRight etc really don't compare do they. I also like Bessey clamps which Bunnings also sell but at the time I bought a few from Amazon and they are lovely. I also really like the Jorgensen small clamps I got. Beginner woodworker here, not a professional.

        • "Love my Irwin clamps"
Concur with that, they are reliable, well built and there to last. And the accessories make them more incomparable, the Couplers connect the bars of two clamps to turn it into a longer one, the Corner Clamp converts one-handed bar clamp into a corner clamp. So much you can do with the Irwin clamps + accessories.

    • Being Aldi it's virtually guaranteed these won't be much better (if at all). I've bought a number of this type of clamp (Aldi, Bunnings, etc) over the years, and two-thirds of them have snapped off the plastic head. It's not cheap or a saving if you have buy it three times before getting the message folks. And you can bet the day one breaks is the day you NEEDED that one extra clamp so now can't do the job.

Result? I now buy Irwin. One pair of Irwins I have are the tiniest size. They haven't broken even when applying more force than I have on the bulkiest cheapies.

  • +1

Wouldn't recommend them or the cheap Bunnings ones. The grips flex and break. And also pinches your hand when using the quick release.

  • +6

Avoid. Mine is an older version and colour, but broke quite easily.

I also bought the screwdrivers (100) recently, and one of the tips was completely melted. Terrible option for tools.

    • Yeah, I also have a set of the older version/colour and have found them to lose their grip quite easily. Wouldn’t recommend.

    • Glad I skipped the driver set! Was seriously considering that!

    • Aldi: Australia's landfill importer expert.

For the home hobbyist, good if you have a tough job which needs ultra high strength such as gluing together polystyrene or sponges

  • +5

These clamps are crap! the handles snapped on me.

    • +4

      Same here. Utter garbage!

      • +4

Yep, I totally agree. The ones I bought last time are in landfill now. Junk.

        • +3

Yep, both the ones I bought snapped at the handle first time

    • +3

Years of carefully checking out Aldi products has made me HATE them. They're are cheap, nasty, and often unsuitable for their intended purpose. It's the same crap we used to see in $2 shops before Aldi came here, only dressed up a bit more to appear higher quality. I have seen their awful guitars with the thinnest strings you could find, with bowed and twisted necks, and such high actions it's like they deliberately wanted to give every owner of one carpal tunnel. Tools are made of too soft material like screw extractors with incorrectly machined threads that can't bite into screws, and if they do they twist and snap off. Every single thing I have bought there that isn't food has had to be returned, found to be useless when I went to use it, or quickly broke. The only exception is a mortar & pestle, and that's only because it's difficult for even China drones to stuff up using an angle grinder to make a depression in a lump of granite formed by nature.

Once I broke my rule of never buying Aldi because I saw a really long set of extension screwdrivers, they were cheap, and I rarely need them… I went to use them after a couple of years and the stupid thin rubber grips had deteriorated, part "melted" together and part fallen off making it murder on the hands to use. All they had to do was make the entire handle plastic, but no… once again, products DELIBERATELY made to fail as soon as possible. I wish people would boycott the middle aisles of these absolute scum.

Stick to Irwin or DeWalt for quick clamps

    • My Irwin clamps got rusty fairly quickly. ALDI ones have been going strong for ~6 years. Irwin is easier to use though. YMMV.

Edit: My ALDI clamps look slightly different than these.

Cheap F clamps are ok but for ratchet/quick style its pay to play.

  • +2

I've got some workzone quick clamps in a couple of sizes. They work fine for light duty. I wouldn't use them for anything that my safety was relying on them doing the job right, or that I couldn't replace if the work I was doing went badly. But they're fine for extra clamping during a glue up to keep something flat when I don't have enough good clamps - or when I need something to do light duty - holding a dryfit in place or whaterver. Better than the craftright junk from bunnings. I've got some irwin quick clamps I use when I need a quick clamp to actually hold something.

The worksafe F clamps I got last year seem pretty solid though.

  • Saw these yesterday and grabbed a pair. Surprised they came in 450mm.

Grabbed a bunch of work zone clamps last year for DIY stuff around the house and they've all been going strong. No breaks or snaps…yet.

  • Also had mine for a year or two now. One of the F clamps doesn't lock in place properly when I hang it up and if I knock the rack it violently falls, it's actually pretty dangerous. Of the 4 quick clamps only one handle broke, but I was able to 3D print a replacement that works well. Good for basic needs.

  • I grabbed a pair of these from the Plympton (SA) store the other day. Haven't used them yet but they seem like half decent quality.

  • nice, and apparently in stock nearby. can never have enough clamps

  • +1

    You get what you pay:

    • With Aldi crap you get less than you pay.

  • +1

I've had pretty good experience with Workzone products and I've got these clamps and they work really well.
But staple your receipt to the packaging, hang it in the shed near your tools and if it breaks or you're disappointed with the quality, return them within 60 days.
ALDI has a great returns policy, with few questions asked. I've bought several Workzone products and have never needed to return any of their items.

  • I've got these clamps too and they are fine for what I wanted (using as spreaders to disassemble dining chairs and then clamps to set glue on reassemble).

I guess it depends what you want them for.

  • Nice one… grabbed this one and some other tools. Ended up spending ~$70ish but worth it. Good quality. There are 2 types of these clamps for same rate. Another one is screw type to close/open

  • it’s actually a pack of 4, comes with 2 large and small ones

    • They are shorter sizes. In which case if going for a starter set of clamps I'd say go buy Irwin pack or something instead too, or at least the Workzone F-clamps.

The 450mm are in the 2 pack only and nothing else I can see is close price wise even for light duty work where you need the extra length.

  • These are good quality clamps. I bought these last time

  • These are GOOD quality Clamps. You can never have enough clamps. I think you can modify them to push out too.

    • +2

      These are GOOD quality Clamps.

And I just saw a flock of feathered porcines flying in a V pattern outside my window.

  • These are bad quality and broke on me.

  • +1

I am not sure about these new Blue ones but I had 4 older Yellow ones and they all broke. They might be fine for very light house projects but if you need to do serious jobs, avoid by all means. Go to the branded ones.
