Bought the 14TB WD Elements for $299 during a Amazon Black Friday deal in 2021, waiting for that deal to happen again lolz, would your finds be the cheapest price$/TB? I'm sure someone can find better, but thanks too for your find 👍

Edit: think I'll avoid overseas purchases of hard drives as to much of a headache if something goes wrong, even though my 14TB was from the UK she sold straight away 😝

    • I find this is usually a pretty good guide.

  • Just how noisy are these Op ?

iv not bought a seagate in years

id be throwing this in a tower with 8 other drives ……

    • HC550 should be noisy, your 8-drive tower will rock with those, when you have all disks reading/writing :) putting it into the garage should be fine.
should not expect quiet operation from those Exos and HC enterprise drives.

      • i mean i have a WD gold Drive … i guess this is a Step up ?

    • I have the same model, except mine are 10TB and SAS interface. I find them to be very quiet. Even being in the same room you can't really hear them unless you get up close.

    • I’ve got four sitting in my TV cabinet. Noisy level is acceptable.

Quietness is one of the key reason I choose WD HC550 over Seagate EXOS X18

      • and the tosh drives worse than the two ?

Never tried. The main concern of Toshiba is warranty

Are you a digital prepper and download the whole of the internet so can still surf when it all turns to 5h1t

    • 3 in RAID5, 1 Hotspare (may consider covert to a cold spare)

  • Has anyone considered warranty policy for this expensive drive? If it has to be sent back to US for warranty repair/replacement, then, it might be very expensive.
I have this "white label" drive in my NAS server, shucked from WD Elements enclosure. It's been perfect for the last two years and very quiet.

I’ve chatted with Amazon customer support about 5 years warranty, they tell me not to worry about it.

I reckon the common practice with Amazon “warranty” is return faulty unit for a full refund.

See my DOA experience from the other post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11647584/redir

      • You should save that conversation and keep it in a safe place. I have my doubts that Amazon would honour the warranty in 5th year.
They're normally good for replacements or refunds only in first 30 days from purchase.

        • I should start another conversation with them then take the screenshot this time, LOL

        • I had Amazon fully refund a Corsair keyboard with
a single dead LED at 1.5 years that only had 1 year warranty without any push back whatsoever. YMMV.

These are good drives! I had a similar conversation with Amazon and they too said they would cover the warranty over that time frame of 5 years. I have captured the convo as a reference, but i suspect this is a common question asked by many importing from Amazon OS. They have been good to me over the years, so im confident and consequently renew my PRIME each year - no complaints.

In that case, this is a good deal. It's very close to the lowest price it's been, which is $545 back in November last year.

WD Elements 18TB is $561, making DC a better option due to a much longer warranty (5yr Vs 2Yr).

        • This is $546.07 today. Very good buying for a great drive!

  • Two or more drives push the price over $1000 and there are extra import costs involved, would it be OK to create two separate orders or would these implicitly be joined into one order anyway, with the charges still applicable?

  • sigh, my arrived, doa… :(
    returning…
