Is 20W even considered quick charging anymore?

    • +8

Qc 3.0 is a proprietary standard called quick charge… So yes.

      • +2

This is semantics and not what I was really asking. I more meant don't most newer Android phones charge well above 20W nowadays?

        • +2

Most of the Chinese manufacturers push 65w, Samsung actually went from 45w to 25w.

Kinda annoying that my s21 ultra won't charge full bore unless the screen is off. So all these fast chargers are basically 8w chargers majority of time for me.

    • +12

      For iPhone it's lightning fast

    • +1

It's not possible to implement USB-PD on a USB-A port. So technically, the only way to do fast charge is to go against the specs, hence QC 2 and QC 3.

That's why Google elected not to use QC2 or QC3 on any of its branded phones.

However, the most import bit on the charger is actually this:

Ready to charge two of your devices simultaneously (both ports deliver 15W output in total).

So, when you use both ports, you are left with 5V charging based on that description. That's a typical problem with single chipset design, and I reckon it is one of the older chipset.

Does this charge and support the Nintendo switch for docking ?

    • -1

Hmm unsure!! I find that none of my chargers do this except for the OG nintendo one.

    • +1

      It won't work for docked
"Luckily most other 45W or higher USB-C PD chargers will also work. As they offer up to 15V/3A and meet the dock’s requirements."

Should be fine for charging and playing

      • Thanks mate

        • Charging and Playing handheld I mean.

The last set of these I got one of them was DOA

    • +5

had a similar experience. one lasted a week before dying. the other one lasted just over a month.

      • +1

Yep, got a refund off Amazon - bit of a crapshoot really, seems like there are lots of duds.

And only paid $12.49 last time for a set of two.

      • +1

Same story here. One of those had misaligned port so can’t even push the cable in and other one was dead after 3 weeks. Got the refund. Thanks

    • Mine too or soon thereafter. Never again

  • No single pack special ?

  • +4

The set I got work fine, but have quite the coil whine

    • Ah damn I can't stand that

  • +1

Have a bunch of these around and they are handy. Dual plug lime these would be more so.

    Haven't had any fail yet.

  • +2

I have been using these (in black) for mobile phones for almost an year now and these are pretty awesome for fast charging (no noticeable heating of devices).

  • Seems like a decent deal if the quality is ok. Also if you buy two packs you get an additional 10% off (so just over $30 delivered w/ Prime)

  • +15

    DO NOT BUY!

I bought three of these and 2 of them are duds - the USB-C doesn't charge most of my devices, and the ones they do charge only trickle charge.

    • +5

I got an electric shock as the housing opened up, from a slight cable pull and the transformer was fully charged

      I have 4 of them :/

  • it says fast charging only applies to typce C, anyone knows how fast the type A?

  • will this be capable of charging a macbook?

    • +1

      veeeeery slowly maybe

    • I'm pretty sure that USB-C Macbooks need 14.5v to charge and that this adapter which tops out at 12v - will not work.

Even the 12" Macbook that would be fine with 20w to charge and use at the same time appears to need 14.5v.

While I do have different Macs to test, I don't have a USB-C with only 12v output to confirm, so I can't confirm 100%.

It's for this reason I'm not jumping on this deal. If they could charge a 12" Macbook I'd buy them, but from what I've been reading it doesn't seem likely.

      • +1

Nah usb-c MacBooks will charge at 5V. At least my 2020 one will.

        • Thanks for letting me know.

Is it an Intel or M1 mac? If using an adapter like the one in this deal - do you know if it charges at 12v or only 5v? If they can take advantage of the 12v then I'd think 20 watts may be enough to use and charge an m1 Macbook, but the adapter tops out at 12 watts if only 5v.

          • @studentl0an: I have an Intel macbook. When I plugged it into a Kmart 18w adapter, it charged at 18w. I don't know what voltage it was using, it was either 9v or 12v.

Either way the Macbook seems to able to charge from most USB-C PD voltages.

    • I’ve got an m1 MacBook Air that I do teleconferencing on and I charger it using one of these at my desk. Works fine.

Or these on Amazon also. I bout this twin pack and they work really well.

Seems like both listings are the same product but with a different logo.

      • Different seller, though these usually come out of the same factories….
All I know is mine charge my iPhone and Apple watch at the same me really well….

AliExpress generic ~$7.50 (incl gst and shipping), one charger, but includes a USB-C charging cable.

  • Is there a black version?

  • Will this power raspberry pi 4? I am currently using and old phone charger, suspect it's not stable.

  • -1

    good

  • +1

    These are unreliable

  • Cheap for a reason, unfortunately.

  • These are junk. Bought a 4 pack and all of them have power regulation problems in the PD port causing the touchscreen to go jittery when charging.

  • These just arrived for me and my phone is pretty much unusable while it's charging. The screen lags and less responsive. Anyone else having problems? Probably going to return
