Less than 1.5 Hours Window to Catch Connecting Domestic Flight

Hi All,
My Qantas flight from Melbourne to Perth has been brought forward resulting less than 1.5 hours windows between my arrival from Singapore (via Singapore airlines) to my next flight to Perth.
The flight is not a connecting flight as I booked two separate tickets from two airlines.
I know it's a very tight window especially during this pandemic. From retrieving the luggage, Covid check, immigration, having my luggage inspected by quarantine office etc to checking in my luggage at Qantas check-in desk.
I'm keen to hear from anyone who was in the similar situation.
My other option if this is not doable is to book a flight for the next day either via Virgin or Qantas.
Thanks

  • Hi,
    Can't you fly SIN-ADL
    ADL-PER (Domestic)

    • nope, ADL flight is way to early

Is that just a nice way of saying you don't want to visit Adelaide anyway? ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • ADL - PER flight would have been departed before I landed in ADL

@tiara: Is that just another nice way of saying you don't want to visit Adelaide anyway? ๐Ÿ˜‰

            • @Muzeeb: Just saying…

Adelaide has food in the Supermarkets, Perth is just well empty Buildings that used to be Supermarkets.

I dunno, we got Wine and a State Election and…

              Well, we got Wine. :+)

Normally 1.5hrs is plenty but I agree with you, in covid times, it might be a bit tight. Could take a chance and if you miss it, stay a night in Melbourne?

You are assuming that the WSSS departure time will not be delayed.

That would be my biggest concern.

Commercial flights either depart on time or late. With aviation traffic picking up (particularly at WSSS & YMML) and flights being shuffled / combined I think the weakest link in your travel plan is the original departure.

  • Yeap, 1.5hr would be very tight. You could potentially do an online check in prior to bag drop to alert the ground staff that you're not a no show, yet. However, I assume you are g2g approved for your Perth flight?

    • Have G2G Pass approved

It's next to impossible in my opinion.

    1. For your flight from Melbourne to Perth, usually check-in desk closes 45 mins before departure.
    2. Between plane touch down, taxi to gate, disembark, clear immigration, collect luggage, and clear quarantine, you will be lucky to get all those done in 40 mins.
    3. That leaves you 5 mins to run from 1 terminal to another.

90 minutes isn't enough time to take the river boat cruise or get a Singapore Sling at the Raffles.

Pre-Covid it was definitely doable with some time to spare - even with Terminal change (have done 1hr10min before). Not sure about post-covid though.

  • Alternatively I can fly SIN-BNE arriving 8:10am and take next flight to PER at 10:25, is it still to risky?

    • Yes because youโ€™re assuming your flight is actually going to depart/arrive on time

    • International and domestic terminals in BNE are not connected. So it takes time to travel one to the other.

  • I have never had a problem with this sort of time personally. The only exception is plane delays

Thanks for the comments. I've decided to stay overnight in Melbourne and reschedule to flight for the next day
