Auto Sort by New instead of Popular

Hello

I've only just realised that threads are auto sorted by Popular….

This introduced the self perpetuating popular thread problem exemplified by reddit - which ruins it!

Can you guys consider changing it to auto sort by default to NEW as that makes the most sense.
Especially for bargains that aren't around long before they sell out or expire!

People can always change it if the want to after they get a new account.

Personally I think a site wide change would be needed or best - send everyone a pm, and give them a pop up the first 2 times they log into their account after the change to be sure they know.

In the meantime is there any way I can set it to sort NEW by default?

thank you.

  • We won't be changing the front page algorithm any time soon. But there's still numerous ways to get your deals listed in order of freshness.

You can view Deal Categories in Chronological order using the NEW tab

To see all deals listed in Chronological order, click the "Live" tab. Then, untick all the boxes except for "Posts" and Select Type: "Deals". This will give you a list of deals, nothing else.

All deals listed under a Store Page are also in chronological order. Example https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/aliexpress.com

If you have the serious case of FOMO and want to be notified if there's a deal that makes the front page of Ozbargain (or hits 100 votes), just go into your Settings / Subscriptions and check all of these options ( Notify me when: A deal reaches +30 votes & Email Notifications)

The only view where deals are not listed in chronological order is the Front page. All other pages — Live View, Category View, Store Page view can be viewed in chronological order.

I personally recommend using the above subscription settings to send yourself emails of deals that are hitting the front page. For the hardcore users that really don't want to miss a thing there's also things like Search Alerts and the ability to subscribe to product tags (BETA feature), this will fire notifications based on keywords.
