I can’t comment on the Holman product, but I have this:
    https://www.link-tap.com/#!/buy

And I can’t fault it. A bit more expensive but I’m very happy with it.

    • -5

These are way cheaper and do the same thing

      • +2

If you like cheap, you may like these:

        https://www.bunnings.com.au/k-rain-solenoid-valve_p3120237?s…

I run it off an ikea smart switch linked to home assistant. Advantage is it's all separate parts. So when the valve eventually goes (which it will) i can replace that part.

        • Hey any chance you can share how you set this up?

It would also required a power supply and wiring which needs to be protected from the weather?

So cost would be power supply 24v AC, smart power point from ikea and valve $26 + $20 + $30 = $76?

          • @Naten: yeah it needs a power supply. I had one. 24vac. I ran the wire through an existing hole in the wall for a central heating vent. So the smart switch and wiring joins are inside my house.

I also fitted an adjustable pressure limiter which i got for about 15 or so off aliexpress. the pressure limiter protects the valve (given our mains pressure), but adjustability is perfect for setting the watering system pressure. When I extended the watering system, i could use this to get the desired level of spray.

Seconded! … looked at the Holman product in store and online and was not very impressed. Was very impressed by what I read online about the Linktap and bought. Have had it working over two months and has been wonderful! Would buy another one again, if needed (though it isn't) without hesitation.

I've just bought some LinkTap units.

They use a variation of Zigbee, as opposed to the Holman using wifi/Tuya. There are a few people tinkering with the Holman in the Home Assistant forum to get it to work locally with a home-automation system rather than via cloud.

The TapLink can work without cloud too.

      • I’ve got a B-Hyve exposed in HomeAssistant so that’s also an option. Going from memory, but the home automation was all local I believe. Got ours at Bunnings.

        • I had the impression that the B-Hyve was Bluetooth - so the timer is Bluetooth and connects to the Hub which then uses wifi to connect to HA?

I currently have some Bluetooth controllers (Holman) and find them next-to-useless because you have to be almost touching them to change anything - and there's no manual button. So, if I am in the garden, I have to go inside and get my phone to turn them on manually!

          • @Public21: Yeah they’re Bluetooth to a wifi enabled hub and HA would connect via the home network.

We have 2 of the taps at either end of the house and both are able to hold a connection to the single hub. I also basically always have my phone in my person so that’s not a biggie. Worst bit is the apps interface is pretty poor but we don’t find ourselves tweaking config a lot anyhow.

        • +1

Managed to integrate mine into HA, which also ties in with my Google Home Minis around the house.
Added a bunch of basic scripts, so now can call out from any room to "start watering front/back garden" or "add/clear" rain delay if I notice they aren't on schedule.
Also get nice phone notifications of days with rain delay so I can do a quick check to see if it's accurate for that day (important in summer)
Added bonus of doing it this way is you override the ridiculous issue of only being able to control one of them via Google Home (the default Google "skill" or whatever they call it sees you having to choose only once device to voice control)
          - Bhyve have been saying for years that they'd add this basic fix, but still haven't.

          Works perfectly!

          • @Tuttle: You wouldn't be able to share those scripts would you? I love the product but the rain delay function is pretty ordinary.

            • @Moondog: Happy to, but first and foremost, you’d need to have the Google integration setup (I’m using the “free” manual setup version) - if that’s the script if you want?

    • The gateway is the hub for link tap and add the timer? Sorry just super quickly looking

    • Agree. The LinkTap system has worked faultlessly for me once set up and since they're a local Aussie company their after sales support is excellent. Very robust units. I can't comment on these particular Holman products but can say that I went through a lot of their old school tap timers before finally giving up on this brand. Poor battery life and big drop in water pressure with these fitted. Most would last 12-18 months and then would start leaking or having issues with the valve. When you open them up you can see why… Did a lot of research on wifi tap timers before going with LinkTap and reviews for the Holman units were not great.

  • That’s their normal price at this store.

Also, there is a new model coming out that controls two outlets.

    • Thanks. Was looking to buy one of these but hadn’t gotten around to it. Will wait!

      • New one is on the website, but haven’t yet seen it in stores.

        • My Bunnings in Canberra says it's in stock for $159

          • @klonky: I just saw…

It looks like they came in the last week or two…

I was sent an email about them a couple of weeks back and I could not find stock then.

  • The timers are only $67 too.

One hub can control up to 4 timers.

Personally, I’d wait for the new model as the hub is different.

The old timers will work on the new hub.

Why would anyone neg that comment?
      Useful info & advice

      • I just checked and bunnings have dropped their price to $66.90.

        Maybe Bunnings negged it?

    • The hubs are the same. I saw new model in store at Bunnings, hub looked same from packaging. At their continued reduced price it's cheaper to buy the system kit and another wx1. The timer is different as it has 2 outlets see https://www.holmanindustries.com.au/product/wx2-dual-outlet-….

Will depend on your tasks what is needed. Two timers handy if you have a drip and sprinkler system. Wx2 then handy if you don't already have a tap splitter.

I've been really happy with mine. Holman support great too as one had an issue with the flow meter. After some troubleshooting they sent a replacement with bag to return faulty unit.

Edit: link to Holman product site rather than Bunnings as this post is for Malvern Irrigation

  • I'm using the https://www.holmanindustries.com.au/product/wx8-wifi-irrigat…
I like it and it allows me to turn stations on remotely via the app.

  • +1

I got this, I like the fact that it’s compatible with Tuya.

  • Had this running for the last two years. Different zones. So can water the grass once and day and the bamboo twice. App is perfect. Even has rain delay so it doesn’t water if it’s rained that day. https://www.bunnings.com.au/orbit-b-hyve-6-station-indoor-ou…

  • I have this one and it’s great. I’m waiting for the two tap version to come out.

I thought I’d be clever and bought a Blitzwolf moisture sensor from banggood thinking they’d work together, as they’re essentially the same product, but I couldn’t get it to connect.

    • Apparently the timers are on different frequencies Holman is 9xx Hz vs 4xx Hz on the Blitzwolf

  • Anyone can recommend product with 4 water output (from one water tap), controlled via wifi or apps (esp when it will rain), run each output separately, and can control different start time and how long it runs for?

  • Username checks out

  • Compatible with home assistant?

  • +1

Has anyone got the bliztwolf one off banggod? im guessing its the same?

  • Looks like Bunnings has price matched, I'm close to Malvern Irrigation so YMMV

I would have supported the small guy but didn't see this.

Can confirm this at my local Bunnings as well.
