Shopback not honouring expensive order

Anyone had any experience with Shopback not honouring an expensive order?

I purchased some flights and went through the usual process of activating etc, so far I have had a response from customer support to say 'sorry' and 'this is how you activate Shopback' in the future. i.e avoiding the topic of providing a solution

If not, tough luck. It's pretty common and can be anything from user error, cookie issue, adblocker, tracking mishap or shopback shenanigans.

    @ op

Pretty much what hybroid said as you can’t 100% disprove all the possible issues. I will however support your right to be outraged at ShopBack.

If you have something not tracked, you should be putting in a claim rather than talking to customer support.

Click on Report a Missing Cashback on the cashback page.

    • Thanks CodeXD, thats what I thought, but when you choose the merchant from the dropdown the purchase date is blank and you cannot proceed with the claim (fail)

      • How long ago was the purchase? Some places take up to 7 days to track so you cannot file a missing cashback until 7 days after.

      • fwiw I did the report for a uniqlo cb offer at boxing day 2 years ago and they denied it with NO reason exactly just nah we're not paying. Wasn't exactly budget breaking, was something like $30-40?

I have found shopback has a huge failure rate unless you use their app. Even then they have issues sometimes.

I have found shopback has a huge failure rate unless you use their appit's a small amount.

    • you legit have a better chance of SPORTSBET paying out a wild 1 million to 1 bet at 50c stakes than getting shopback to cough up for a decent amount CB.

Theres a post every few days about some issue with some of these gigs…

Based on recent history, you're in for a long fight if you want to try and get your cashback: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/672733

    • Sigh - Cashrewards better for large purchase?

        nope.

@tightarse might do a solid and give a small good will credit - unlike shopback's rep who just dodges everything

          I'm sorry, what?
You haven't reached out to me directly in over 2 years, so please don't pretend I've "dodged" anything.
If there's something I've missed on a public forum, I apologise.
I'm just one person and can only see/do so much in a day.

Also, was it not you who previously tagged me in a comment asking me to assist someone, saying I was quite helpful?
It's a bit odd to see you flip stances like this for no reason.

I'm in talks with OP now to see what went wrong & how I can help.

          • @gotyourback: I can confirm GYB has been a great help whenever I contact him. Never dodged any question I have asked.

@gotyourback: I went back through my PM's and yes you are right - it was not via PM, so I can only assume I interacted with you via a public post/s.

I sincerely apologize for calling you out like that. I don't use any cashback systems anymore actively but if for some reason I do I will be sure to PM you to see what can be done if issues arise.

Regarding my original issue with Shopback, the whole interaction of dealing with a decent sized cashback (over $20 worth) was very frustrating, and I definitely have the emails to shopback CS to prove. Was told in 'the merchant has deemed ShopBack ineligible to earn commissions' - ok but the items were FULL price items, paid with credit card. The time it would have taken back and forth to me wasn't worth getting the CB so I gave up.

            • @Jimothy Wongingtons: I appreciate the sincere apology, it sounds like it was a simple mistake.

Could you send me a DM with your account email & a little info on the rejected order?
I'll take a look into it to see what happened & what I can do.

              Cheers!

              • @gotyourback: Thanks I'll DM you in a second

                • @Jimothy Wongingtons: I can confirm @gotyourback did me a solid after providing details on the transaction I mentioned above.

They clarified the initial issue in 2020 with my transaction, as well as helped to honor it.
If anyone else has issues I suggest to try to PM them (GYB) first directly so the case can be reviewed.
They were nothing but helpful in our interaction and I do apologize again publicly for my comment above.

never buy anything based on shopback or cashrewards - just see the cash back as a nice bonus but in my experience sometimes things 'dont track'

if you want a bit more certainty its best to do the 'final' purchase on the app becuz you know they cant say it 'didnt track' but things can still go wrong.

    • +4

yep if you're depending on CB to make it a 'deal' it AINT a deal.

  • +3

Naaaaw… Never mind. It's ok though. Rest assured you will get one of their world famous $3 "Fixes everything" vouchers.

I've read enough of these stories that it seems if you are doing a large purchase you really care about then you really need to record your screen when doing these transactions. This may not help you but it means you have proof that you didn't click on any other affiliate link etc during the transaction.

I don't think shopback lie, they have more to lose by not passing the cashback on given reputational damage would cost more than they gain by pocketing some larger cashbacks. The merchant on the other hand don't have to deal with the angry customer, they can simply tell shopback that they weren't the last affiliate link the customer clicked and shopback have no way to prove otherwise, they can avoid paying out significant $$$ doing this. I would be interested if someone recorded the transaction how far shopback would go to advocate for the customer to the business refusing to issue the cashback with proof the business is obviously lying.

  • basically all my amazon purchases have been rejected too
i assume its because of purchasing with gift cards, but its not on the T&C.

    • Paying with Amazon Gift Cards should not impact the Cashback.
Could you send me a DM with your account email so I can take a look?

      • thank gotyourback
can you also look into why my myers purchase was rejected?

There's so many posts like this one and this one that I have zero idea why anybody bothers with Shopback.

  • Latest status is 'no' from Shopback. SB cant see click or any activity from my account on the date of purchase which is convenient.

Communication is good with GYB, its crazy from a customer experience perspective for shopback - large purchase = close eyes and hide (we cant see it)

    • Hey mate, as mentioned in our DM conversations:

I've had a thorough look and cannot see any clicks on our App/Website/Extension at all around the time of purchase (15th of Jan).
You've never clicked through to Emirates from the account you provided me with, at all.

Additionally, there was no activity logged at all on the 15th.
This means that our App was not opened, our Website was not opened/viewed/clicked, our Extension was not opened/viewed/clicked.

Without any activity on the day & no clicks to register the transaction, we cannot do anything for your $200+ Cashback claim.
As there was no click from ShopBack to Emirates, there is no way for Emirates to attribute this order to us.

I apologise if this comes across as a poor Customer Experience, but we simply cannot pay out a $200+ Cashback payment from our own funding when there is nothing to show you went through our links.

      Cheers!

I bought an expensive item from Amazon via SB late last year. Initially I was refused because the item's category was 'Home>Furniture' instead of 'Furniture' and on their SB's cashback list 'Home' had 0%. After weeks of going back and forth with GYB on OzBargain (and echoing what others have said, very helpful) and the customer rep via email, I finally got the full amount back after raising it with fair trading. Strongly urge those to give that a try if they haven't already.

    • I had the exact same issue yesterday.
Shopback Tracked the purchase (an Office Chair), but was incorrectly registering it as 0% for "Furniture".

I simply replied to the email with the Order Details and Reena from Shopback AU sorted it all out with no fuss at all this morning.
